  • Amazing
The media could not be loaded. Got the keys, faders, knobs and buttons to work in Cakwalk Bandlab. Very impressed. Keys feel amazing!

  • Great MIDI controller with graded hammer action keys
It really does feel almost exactly like my baby grand piano. The weighted keys are also graded, meaning that the lower keys are heavier to the touch and the higher keys are lighter to the touch, just like a real piano. I can run a MIDI cable to my Yamaha MX49, so no computer needed if I don't have access to one for whatever reason. ... show more

  • Now animates all lights when idle ten minutes, no remedy
The media could not be loaded. They used a cheap LCD screen for this unit which had burn-in issues, so their solution was to put out a firmware patch that slowly animates the little screen after the unit is idle ten minutes until a control is pressed. But wait! They decided you'd also enjoy a candy-colored demo of all the lights on the unit, aka "Vegas mode"! True story! Some manager was on disco biscuits! And! They decided to lie by omission in the 2.1.3 patch notes, naming only some small fix so you'd be suckered into installing this like a ransomware virus with nobody to pay off to fix it. And! Reinstalling 2.1.1 doesn't undo it! (far as I can tell there was no 2.1.2). And! Support gaslighted me saying "that's just how it works lol turn it off"! That's a four of a kind of contempt and negligence, plus a joker for the cheap LCD. I work with the pad lights off in low light. So now, unless I keep the malfunctioning areas covered with a towel and duct tape, when I'm deep in workflow over in the DAW it lights up like Babby's First Controller going WOOP WOOP VEGAS PARTY LOL INSERT COIN unless I remember to keep pressing something like a lab rat at a slot machine. My only recourse is to get the word out: avoid this unit and M-Audio. I'd say avoid parent company inMusic but they own half the industry now, and apparently consider M-Audio to be for people who'd put up with this in a studio setting. Hope they'll treat Moog better. ... show more

  • Love the product, no love for the support
I love the Hammer 88 Pro. It's a great keyboard / midi controller Action on the keys is awesome. Took quite a long time to finally get someone to answer my technical support question but once I had that problem resolved I was golden. All the software that comes with the keyboard is great.

  • Excellent MIDI controller with true piano feel
If you watch YouTube reviews or read online reviews, you'll see consistently positive feedback on this keyboard. It's all true, very good quality keyboard. Great feel and great sensitivity for MIDI recording. Solid puchase.

  • I've been playing with my Hammer 88 Pro for about a year. love it. it's the best.
So both products have serious flaws. Hammer 88: Cheap keybed. It's not FATAR. It's Williams Keybed. Velocity is inconsistent. You cannot change you midi channel with the keyboard. You need the editing software which hasn't been updated for about a year and you cannot use it on you updated computer(iMac, Monterey OS). Some of the softwares they giveaway with these products don't work anymore and you cannot install them (Eighty- Eight Ensemble). Hammer 88 Pro: faders and knobs have poor quality. FATAR keybed feels much better but very inconsistent in velocity and sensitivity. Same softwares issues as Hammer 88. I have returned Hammer 88 more than 2 weeks ago and they received the package 12 days ago and they haven't issued refund. ... show more

  • It works great
Like it’s feel and ease of use with software

  • Great product, horrendous customer support
I've been a user of m-audio products for a long time, but I've typically chosen to use the less expensive items like the Oxygen 49 and the Keystation 88. I'm not a performer, most of my use of these is for composition, so they fit me just fine. But I decided to get serious about learning piano and decided a hammer-action setup would be great. When I saw this coming out and that it came with a host of virtual instruments, it seemed like a steal at the price point. The steal turned out to be from m-audio. If you look at the packaging, it promises the hammer 88 software package comes with some starter DAWs (pro tools first, mpc beats, ableton live lite) and a host of virtual instruments: hybrid 3, Velvet, MiniGrand, Vacuum, Boom, DB-33, and Xpandi^2. If you do the research all these bits of of software add up to a pretty great value for a graded hammer-action keyboard with aftertouch that also has a plethora of faders and a drum pad. However, the download tool only gives you access to Hybrid 3, Minigrand, and Velvet. Vacuum, Boom, DB-33 and Xpandi are nowhere to be found. The first thing I did was try to contact support. I was on hold for 45 minutes and then the system hung up on me. So, I figured maybe they were busy due to quarantine and so forth, and decided to fill out a contact form. I heard nothing for over two weeks, and actually ended up getting a survey asking how they handled my issue. I wrote a review stating I never heard back. I also never heard back from that. So, I figured I'd try to go ahead and use the key they gave me in iLok to download DB-33 and see if it just works: it specifically says the software key for the hammer 88 package does not include DB-33. I did the same with the others, same issue. I tried calling the support number again, and someone answered! I told them the issue, and they told me they'd put me on hold to find out more info. I waited for about ten minutes and then was disconnected again. I decided to go ahead and just try to use some of the features as documented, and one of them is that this is supposedly configured to make using a DAW very simple. It even has presets for many common DAWs, like FL Studio, Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, etc. The problem I ran into was that this didn't actually make it useful: the keybed becomes a series of confusing shortcuts that don't do anything meaningful, and the sliders aren't bound to anything useful. You're better off just leaving it in the default mode (which they call "preset") and configuring all the shortcuts yourself by binding them to the various midi inputs. After all this, is it still worth the money? Maybe. It's got great action, it's sturdy and very comfortable to play. I kind of wish they'd gone with waterfall or at least rounded edges rather than the "lipped" style, I don't think it adds much benefit and prevents you from comfortably doing glissandos or other open-hand performance techniques. That said, the keys feel amazing. Playing with the included Velvet plugin feels very similar to playing a real Rhodes. The grand piano that comes with MiniGrand is pretty good, though you may find that even the GarageBand Steinway feels more responsive. I might need to tweak the velocity curve or something. If I were to give anyone advice, I'd say maybe try the Hammer 88 without the Pro. It's a lot less expensive and the big benefit is the hammer-action keys, which are great. ... show more
