I use these solar lanterns every day instead of turning on a lamp. They recharge fairly quickly in full sunlight and a charge lasts about 4 hours on high. I always throw one in my bag when I'm traveling, just in case of a power outage. I've bought at least eight of these over the years because I keep giving them away to family members. ... show more

I bought several of these to take to Africa. I am so glad I did!!! We ended up using them all the time. They are able to be charged with the sun, but it does take a while to fully charged this way. I charged mine when the power was on and then was able to use it for several days. It has the ability to adjust the brightness and save power on a lower setting. It's light weight, waterproof and able to pack easily. We used it as a lamp and it worked for an entire room, it it bright enough to read at night. I've used this for about 8 months now. When I first bought it, I liked it so much that I bought the version without the phone charger, and I still use both almost daily. The warm glow of these lanterns is much nicer than the harsh cold white lights in my apartment. Mostly they're alternatives to the built-in lights in my apartment, but they're also meant to be backups in case we lose electricity in a story. Solar recharging does work but is slow, which is to be expected. My apartment gets almost no sun at this time of year, so I generally charge them via USB cable. That is fairly quick, and battery life is reasonable, though not amazing. I've tested charging my phone a few times and this feature does work. As you might expect, it is slow and it does drain the lantern's battery quicker than it would if it were only being used as a lamp, but if your mobile is about to die and there's no other charging option, this feature is nice to have in a pinch. I am disappointed to find that the lantern with the charger hasn't held up well in terms of structure. After about four months, I noticed that it was losing air much more rapidly than the lantern without a charger. Pretty much all inflatable objects lose air over time, some faster than others depending on how they're handled. These two lanterns have been handled in the same way, but this one isn't holding up well. Fortunately, this one is kept hanging in my kitchen so the lack of structure caused by this deflation isn't a major problem, but I'm expect it to die much sooner than the other lantern. Since the other lantern is performing as expected, I'm giving this 4 stars, though I'd rather give it 3.5. As a light, it does what I need it to do, but its inability to retain air restricts my usage. ... show more

This is the first solar lantern I have. But it is just so cute, so light, easy to use. I was going to put it in my van, but I think I’m going to keep it in my house because it’s easy to store. I haven’t tried charging it with solar. But even without solar it’s just really useful.

The LuminAID 2-in-1 Solar Camping Lantern and Phone Charger is a product I didn't realize I needed! It's the first thing I reach for during power outages, the LED lights are plenty bright and it charged my phone with no issues. Its compact and lightweight design makes it perfect for outdoor use and walking in the dark. The fact it can also strobe-light makes it great to have in the car in case of emergency. I'm buying to buy a third lantern so that everyone in my family can have one by their bed in case of power outages.
