  • Awesome Printer!
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
The media could not be loaded. I am a newbie to 3D printing. This was my first venture into the 3D realm and was looking for a good quality printer for a reasonable price. The Longer LK 5 Pro was the best decision I have made! The package was the best of anything I have ever gotten online. Packaged very securely in foam as seen in my first picture. Everything was well thought out by this company. Hardware and tools needed for assembly were supplied, with the screws neatly packaged individually and labeled to match the instructions so you knew exactly what screws to use. It also came with a small bag of "Extra Parts" which I later found out was a filament feeder, a strain relief and 2 small caps which I have yet to figure out where they go. These are not listed on the instruction sheet, but videos are provided on the USB drive. Instructions were intelligent and well written. There was one printing error I found, but I figured it out easily. To keep this short, I'll list my Pros & Cons: Pros: Well packaged. Very good instructions, and there are YouTube videos that you can watch as well on assembly. I had trouble reading some of the instructions, simply because of the small print in some sections (my problem, not theirs). The unit is 90% pre-assembled, the rest is not difficult to assemble when following the instruction sheet. The printer can be operated as a stand alone, meaning you can load the files onto the micro SD card (provided), and load them into the printer. There IS a printer port if you wish to direct connect the printer to a computer, but it is not necessary. The USB/micro SD is loaded with Cura as well as several small projects for you to begin printing. Included in the package, is a small amount of filament for you to print your first item. The control panel is a touch screen panel, which I really like, and it is easy to navigate. My last picture is a short video of how quiet this unit is. The only noise it make is from the cooling fan. Cons: Not many, and they are more of suggestions. 1. Please don't put the reminder sticker OVER the voltage switch. (As seen in my 2nd pic). That switch should be easily accessible. 2. The supplied putty knife should be made of plastic. NOT metal. We are working with a glass bed and it certainly does not need to be scratched. All in all, you cannot go wrong buying this printer. I am presently printing my first item from their supplied file. While it is not yet completed, from what I am seeing, the build is very clean and smooth. I can hardly wait for it to be complete so I can play some more. The only issues I had on assembly, other than the small print, was getting an error 9 message when I attempted to level the bed. I found that one of my connectors was not fully seated. Easy fix. The other was not getting the filament fed into the unit far enough for it to start printing. Both, beginners errors.. I am one HAPPY lady! **UPDATE** Added my first test print.... LOVE this printer!! ... show more

  • Save a Ton of Money with a Little Work and Know-How
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
This system is really great, especially considering the cost. Took about an hour to get running but I use these for work so I do have some prior experience. If you have not done this before, this is a decent starting point. You would get more hands-on with a RepRap kit but that can be intimidating if you don't have an electromechanical background. Even so, the LK5 gives you a more advanced platform and you also won't be running into trouble with things like fuses constantly blowing, extrusion issues or tables never leveling. You could spend thousands on something like a MakerBot and get features that are absolutely useless unless you're running a commercial farm (I can print from my phone! but someone still needs to prep the surface so no one cares...) or you can buy this and use the savings on everything else. The extruder works great, the stock metal hotend works great, the glass mat works great, the mechantronics are accurate, reliable and consistent, and the touchscreen interface is actually a lot better than I expected. Right off the bat you have access to a decent utility suite that will run you through just about everything. The only "problem" I have encountered is refresh related. If you are changing a temp and the system is not at the original temp yet, it will have to reach the old setpoint before it displays the progress on the new setpoint. In other words, it will occasionally look like it is not registering commands depend on how you do things but I have found that it is, and will update when it works through the command stack. I consider it a non-issue and it's really not enough to ding any points. Just pay attention. Lastly, the build volume is crazy for the price. This (and the stock hotend) is the main reason I bought the thing and as soon as I get my larger nozzles I plan on using all of it. Standard material issues apply, of course. Do some research and read about polymers. Build a shroud, use some hairspray/glue, understand when you shouldn't use a fan, etc. Do a little legwork and out-of-the-box you can print some relatively high-temperature materials with little frustration. Very few printers will let you print things like ABS or Nylon with zero understanding or input from the user and these are very expensive. On the other hand, all printers with capable hotends will print these materials successfully so long as the user puts in the effort. Be one of those people. As far as my personal use, I actually bought it for sci-fi pop culture models and paintable miniatures and the LK5 works great. Depending on the size I use a .1 or .2 setting and then finish with conventional methods like sanding or in the case of the miniatures I carefully use acetone fuming. Occasionally I make functional parts for work but only if we're at capacity (and only if they pay me!). Whether you are looking to settle for a less-capable $250 model or you are considering a $750+ I would absolutely recommend giving the LK5 consideration. This is an exceptional platform with few issues. ... show more

  • Good Beginner Printer and It's Cheap.
Size: LK5 Pro Upgrade
I've had this printer going 3yrs now and it served me really well. Printed a couple of parts for my RCs and other household items/parts. The speed is nothing to cry about as it is outdated and slow. The size for your print space is around 11in, so it's a decent area. To level this you may need to spend around 5min or so since it's a little hard to level given it's manual leveling. I love how this prints corners sharp compared to my Elegoo where it always comes off rounded. One thing to note also is that the gcode for this will obviously be different from other printers. I find my self adjusting tolerance for spacing when I switch from this to my Elegoo. I would recommend this as a starter printer where you can mess around and learn 3D printing without breaking the bank. It's easy to setup and use. It prints great and accurate if you spend the time calibrating it. And has a good build volume. One thing to note on this is that the build plate or build glass loses the stickiness over time so you will find yourself using glue or having to print rafts, so your prints have something sticky to adhere to. ... show more
