Already I'm so happy with this purchase! I didn't see initial care instructions so I did a quick wash with soap, dry, then thin layer of vegetable oil. Then I cooked eggs. I bought this for my husband and he really likes it. We have a cast iron grill/griddle that sits on top of 2 burners that we’ve been using for the past 10 years. It works okay but is a real pain to clean. Since there’s only 2 of us, we wanted a griddle that could be used on just 1 burner, accommodate the foods we cook routinely, and was easier to clean then the larger heavy grill/griddle we have been using. With the square dimension of this griddle it has just a tiny amount less useable space than our old rectangle griddle and accommodates everything we have cooked. The handle makes it easy to move as needed and cleanup is a breeze. My husband has used other cast iron cookware for decades, and while he likes this griddle a lot, his only complaint is that the heat distribution is not as even as his other cast iron pieces. Maybe it’s because the other pieces are round and this one is square. Anyhow, now that he is aware of the areas that take longer to heat up, he has adjusted placement of the food and is quite happy to have this Lodge cast iron griddle. ... show more

**LODGE is a MIRACLE, the photo is my EGG breakfast after barely ONE WEEK of use!** After swearing off non-stick, I needed a new pan to cook my beloved breakfasts in. While I have two cast iron sauce and mini pans, they are old hand-me downs, so I was a bit intimidated by working up to the well-seasoned status of a good cast iron pan with a brand new one. Lodge came highly recommended, and with the value I figured it would be a very good place to start, and man was I BLOWN AWAY. The pre-seasoning done on the pan I got was absolutely phenomenal. I did *nothing* to pre-season it my first time (other than copious amounts of bacon grease, oil, and butter!) and my bacon and eggs (eggs!!) all but fell off the pan. Being the very first time and with no work beforehand, I understandably had a few pieces stuck here and there, but that was short lived. After using the pan once if not twice daily in the week since I've had it, it's already a force to be reckoned with. I am in love. We received a Lodge 3 piece fry pan set as a wedding gift 53 years ago and have been using them ever since. The griddle is a new addition to our set and it works great for frying multiple eggs at the same time. These are awesome products.

First impression: pretty solid and heavy! My husband even joked and asked aside from cooking do I have other uses for it and I said it's to ward off intruders 🤣🤦♀️ Kidding aside, I followed the suggestion of the other customers that I should season prior to using it...so I did! I sprayed some canola oil and wiped the excess with a paper towel and placed it in our preheated oven to 400°F for an hour. I used it for the very first time yesterday on pork chops and I'm super happy with the result! It cooks evenly. After hand washing it I sprayed more canola oil on it and wiped the excess again with a paper towel. One should season their griddle at least twice a year. ... show more

I have had cast Iron pots and pans for many years. I love cooking with them. I do not have to worry about non stick coating coming off, or needing to replace the pan every couple of years. As long as they are treated properly, they will not fail you. That being said, I do not know why I delayed getting this flat square griddle. I received it, prepped it and started using it. Cooked bacon and sausage. Cooked eggs and pancakes at the same time. It just works. Wipe it rinse it, oil it and repeat. ... show more
