  • Solid Brake Line Flare Tool - Works on Very Hard Toyota Lines
I've used this a couple of times to repair brake lines on my 2002 Toyota Sienna. It's easy to flare copper nickel lines because they're fairly soft. But, the OEM lines are very hard and covered with a thick plastic. I shaved off a few inches of the plastic and tried to get a good flare. The tool clamps hard, but the tube is pushed away slightly and you can't get a good flare. I marked the tubing just past the tool and could see that it moved. One of the other reviews mentioned using sand paper in the tube slot. I tried 600 grit in the tool on a piece of brake line I had taken off. But, the tube just shifted again. So, I cut a small rectangle of sand paper cloth used for cleaning copper plumbing pipes. I wrapped the brake line with a very small piece of the cloth with the grit on the inside against the brake line. There was just enough sanding cloth to go around the line and not cause too much distortion of the flare tool. On my test piece, it worked and the brake line did not move in the lisle tool. I then used it on the actual line under the van. Again, the line did not shift and I was able to produce a good flare. None of the connections I've made when using this tool have leaked. One of them is over two years old. I've attached a couple of pictures showing the cloth and you can see a tiny piece wrapped around the test piece after flaring. Now, I keep several pieces of the cloth cut into very small pieces in the flare tool case for future projects. This Tool is heavy and solidly built. It is well worth the purchase price if you do your own mechanic work. I'm glad it's the first flare tool I bought. Based on other reviews and my own experience, it's a great tool for a great price. ... show more

  • Brillant little tool that just works
This is the brake line flaring tool I've been wanting all my life. It's simple, consistent, and durable. There's no clumsy fighting with getting it to hold together just right, everything fits precisely, operation is smooth, and results are always perfect. Just make sure the line is seated to the correct depth and clamped tightly, and pay attention to which side of the anvil you insert first (they are marked side 1 and 2). The fact that it can be held firmly and used in smaller confines makes it fantastic for on the vehicle repairs where a proper splice repair is much more practical than disassembling things in order to replace a whole section of line. It was excellent when I had to repair and alter a brake line on my Foxbody Mustang, and would have had to remove everything from the firewall in order to replace the original line. It was very convenient when repairing a rear brake line on an XJ Cherokee, being able to reach up next to the frame rail rather than pull and bend the lines. Definitely recommend this tool to anyone who needs to flare 3/16 and 1/4 lines, whether you are a mechanic or just a DIY person, this tool will work for you. ... show more

  • Quailty tool that makes perfect ISO flares.
I used this to make ISO bubble flares for my 1995 Dodge. It worked perfectly, easy to use, with instructions and a handy storage case. Works on multiple line sizes but my truck only has 3/16" lines. Fits in tight spaces for in car flares.

  • Actually really works!! Makes brake flaring Fun.
I have bought 3-4 "other" tube flaring tools and have never experienced the ease of use of this tool. I have always dreaded making brake flares with my other tools and have had far more fails than successes. My very first test flare was beautiful and I quickly moved to completing my project on my hot rod. I did use this to repair some old brake lines and was concerned the old tubing might not flare as easily as fresh new steel tubing, but it worked perfectly. I did try to do a flare using some alternative grease that did not come out perfectly and then returned to using the provided grease and got a beautiful result. It must be magic,... I strongly recommend this product, it looks and feels sturdy and shows no signs of wear in the initial usage of about 6 flares. This is so far superior to every other tool I have used, there is no comparison. It does not leave marks on the tubing from the clamping forces. I can use it with my two hands, I am not fumbling around to several small pieces that seems to slip at the last moment. This tools has the parts clearly marked for size and step in the process, plus a nice little case to keep things organized. I might not use this tool every day, but when I do, I fully expect I will produce an excellent result. ... show more

  • Ease of use
This is the tool you want if you only do brake lines every once in awhile! You can use it right on the vehicle if need be and the depth adjustment for the brake line is practically impossible to screw up,works great.Great tool!

  • Update: Took works well with the correct dies.
Update: Received the correct dies in the 2nd tool kit and made some practice flares. The Lisle tool works very well and in the photos the middle flare is with the Lisle tool. The 1st flare on the left was with my old $30 tool and the last flare was a factory flare on some parts store brake line. Updated the review to 4 stars and I recommend the Lisle flare tool. Well I cannot use the flare tool since I received 2 of the 1/4" dies and none of the 3/16 dies. I watched a couple of you tube videos and was looking forward to using the tool. It seems well made and hopefully should work once I receive a replacement with the correct dies. I will update the review as well once I actually use the flaring tool. ... show more

  • If it's not this one, stay away.
After ruining some vintage clutch line with a (not cheap) bar style flare tool I found, ordered and used this Lisle kit. HOLY SMOKES. what a difference. wow. This kit holds the tubing firmly and reliably creates perfect bubble flares. Pros: Solidly made in the US. Easy, reliable, repeatable flares; even in tight spaces. Comes in a nice storage box. Handle is removable if you want to mount it in a vise. Cons: It doesn't stay in the vice very well but just as easy to use hand-held. You really have to search and dig on Amazon to find this, the first page or two of your search will be filled with the generic, cheap copies. ... show more
