  • Helps You to Occasionally Disconnect from the Internet - Seamless Spyware Comes Pre-installed
Positives: 1 - Decent Wi-Fi signal. 2 - Provides you and your family many opportunities to unplug from the internet reconnect face-to-face. 3 - Tasteful color choices on the configuration interface. Negatives: 1 - Router requires that you create a Linksys account and install a Linksys Velop app on your phone to complete the configuration process. This creates a nifty backdoor into your router and is a major security vulnerability. It was exceedingly difficult to figure out how to configure this router without making a Linksys account. 2 - While this device has four RJ-45 ports for wired connections, these ports are not configurable within the poorly designed configuration interface. These appear to only be for piggybacking other Linksys devices such as repeaters and range extenders, not for PCs, televisions, or other clients. 3 - Router requires a soft restart with even minor configurations changes, a very inconvenient feature. 4 - While the "Ookla" speed test shows my device as providing 200+Mbps speeds, amazon, gmail, and several other websites consistently failed to load images and came back with weird page errors or only partially loaded. After switching back to my previous router this activitiy went back to normal, leading me to believe that this router is parsing my browsing data for marketing (or maybe other) purposes. I had low expectations for this router, only hoping that it would have better range than my old Wi-Fi router, but it failed at absolutely everything else, especially routing. This product is so awful that it makes me want to just stop using the internet and read a book. ... show more

  • Just purchased. Great replacement to the MediaLinks I was using.
I used this to replace two MediaLink AC1200s. I had had to use 2 of the MediaLinks due to their poor coverage. My house is not that huge (~1200 sq ft on each floor with half the basement actually being garage) and this device is covering it better than the two MediaLinks ever did even in a mesh-type config. That said, the Linksys coverage is excellent. Much better, much more consistent, and much faster than the MediaLinks. The only two devices I have had trouble with on this were due to the manufacturer of the devices. One was an Epson all-in-one - their printer OS is just crap and it refused to configure for the Linksysexcept via WPS. Manual config of the wifi just did not work even though it was the exact settings used on all the other devices - Thanks Epson. The other is a Vizio TV. No problem configuring it for the Linksys but as with the Epson printer the OS on that device is just crap (Prime video was and still is horribly pixilated for about 30 seconds, Netflix jitters, and Hulu flickers). Casting to that TV now works better than under the MediaLinks. I DID have to use an app on the phone to set up the device. BUT once that is done you definitely can access the router via a browser on a PC. All the people who say you cannot do so are not correct. HOWEVER - Linksys. SMH. It's 2020 for god's sake. Make the default portal on your config page HTTPS!!!!!!!!! I had the exact same complaint about the MediaLinks which were made 3 years ago. Sending passwords over HTTP in clear text is STUPID! ... show more

  • Outstanding System
I purchased this router and a Mesh Booster ten days and twenty minutes ago, and have been running it for ten days without a hiccup. It literally took about twenty-minutes to update the firmware, download the outstanding Linksys app to my iPhone, and have the mesh system operational. Admittedly, it replaced a ten-year old NetGear router and repeater that was outdated and was running 16 or 32 mgs and was never reliable. I have my modem and router set up in my shop that is approximately 150 feet from my brick home. I am running three servers off of ethernet connections in the shop out of the router. I set the Mesh extender up in the house and am now am seeing 5ghz speeds in the house at 97 mgs. I have 100 mg internet connection from my isp. I have purchased WAY more expensive routers and returned them because they didn't operate as well as the ten-year old NetGear stuff. The Linksys iPhone app is clean and reliable. I must admit that the mesh repeater status light is indicating a weak signal, but it works perfectly. I live in a wooded neighborhood where the average lot size is around three acres, but I still receive signals from several other wifi systems. I think that the beamforming system used by this router works well enough to cancel the interference of the neighbor's wifi. I typically have 7 to 9 devices running on the wifi in addition to the three hard wired servers in the shop, and have not experienced any lag or buffering during streaming hd video either in the shop or in the home through the mesh repeater. I'm doing more than the manufacturer claims that the system is designed to do and loving the results. The system speeds and reliability are so outstanding that I'm for the first time considering beginning the process of setting up a smart home on this system. I could not seriously consider that option before. I can't comment on the tech support because I haven't experienced the least bit of problem with the setup or operation of the system and therefore have not needed any support. ... show more
