  • Good workshop addition
Style: Welder and Gun
This is a good little welder. Simple enough for a first time welder. Helped me do some body work on 96 dodge truck with some serious rust issues.

  • Perfect Backpack FC Welder
Style: Welder and Gun
I bought this unit to use for repair and fabrication after my experience with the Hobart 140. That Hobart was like 57lbs so would put it on a cart, which at that point might as well put a gas bottle on it and run mig for an all around smoother weld but now it’s massive and unwieldy. This Century FC90 is the epitome of a backpack welder (but don’t run it in an actual backpack lol) Pros: -Very light weight (18lbs loaded) -120v so that means 3 prong wall outlets -Fairly smooth welding arc when running E71 by any reputable manufacturer like Hobart or Blue Demon ect. -Come out the box ready to rock .35 wire (wire not included) Cons: -The tensioner for the wire spool feels like it does pretty much nothing. Haven’t had it unwind tho just makes me nervous. -Duty cycle is not like a Hobart 140 where you can be going full power almost all day long. -Some might say the roller assembly feels cheap but not to the point of falling apart, just not like Miller or Lincoln strong where you could probably hit it with a hammer and it would still keep going. All around definitely worth the money! I’d say best use is for domestic repairs, light fabrication, and just a nice sortable Flux Core gun. Do keep in mind it cannot change over to gas like mig or dual shield. ... show more

  • Better then expected.
Style: Welder and Gun
Surprisingly good quality. Once wire speed and such were adjusted, had produced solid results, even for a novice. Great buy for every project I've used it on.

  • Lowest power setting is too high for sheet metal, necessitating skillful use to avoid blow-through.
Style: Welder and Gun
Gets the job done, and is a good value. Compact, reasonably powerful and reliable. Not ideal for thin sheet metal as the power cannot be adjusted low enough to avoid blow through. With practice, this limitation can be overcome by using VERY short bursts (1/2 second or less) and stitch welding. Lacks a carry handle, but comes with a shoulder strap that serves this purpose. Tightening the shoulder strap too far prevents the lid from opening, and there are no quick releases on the strap. As with all flux core welders, spatter is an issue but I found that cleanup was very easy. ... show more

  • A small but mighty little machine.
Style: Welder and Gun
I’ve purposely waited 6 months to write this review. I wanted to be able to use it and learn how to properly weld. I’m very pleased with this. I’ve used it to weld wire frames, connect a makeshift drive shaft for a salt spreader as well as learning how to make nice tight beads on several pieces of steel. It’s not going to repair the Eiffel Tower, but for small jobs it has done everything asked. As an example, the I needed to join a round and hexagonal shaft for my salt spreader. Each was about 1/4” in diameter. After a bit of prep on both pieces I was able to weld the 2 pieces together as well as a sleeve over the joint to ensure it had the best chance of working long term. I had to plow several times last year and ran the spreader to keep the road from icing up. I checked it when putting everything away for the year and showed no sign of wear or damage. I’m not an expert by any means but using this was very intuitive and helped me feel comfortable and confident in what I could do. ... show more
