    • The 3 Most Dreaded Words...Awful Instructions

...Some Assembly Required. What an odyssey! The journey began with a bad omen: UPS delivered the deck box in what at one time must have been a shipping box. It was so badly tattered that was where no more than a collection of cardboard strips. I should have taken the hint. Being the intrepid type I journeyed on. After dragging the thing to the back deck it became immediately obvious that all the hardware was missing. What to do? Called Amazon and asked them just to send a hardware kit. “No can do.” The solution is to send a completely new unit. I am to remove the hardware, reseal the carton, and have UPS pick it up. Adding to the joy, it poured down rain last night and what was once something that resembled a shipping carton is now nothing more that a sopping wad of paper. Maybe I shall just put the mess on the front porch and have UPS pick it up as is and keep the new unit. Moving on: BEWARE of Step 2.2 & 2.3 (page 15 & 16 of manual). Positioning the metal Lid Support is a nightmare. Neither the Video (which for the most part is pretty good) nor the printed Assembly Instructions adequately identify the critical positioning of the Lid Support (Part# EZA) so that the Lid Locking Tab (Part# EYY) is set correctly. We found out only after we completed the box assembly. Today, we are going to attempt to flip/reposition the Lid Support without disassembling the entire Lid (Part# AND). This process includes removing the 6 screws (Part# BCK). What a mess! ... show more

Well built nice looking product. If I had one wish - maybe a little more heavy duty. It will do fine. Easy to assemble. One lid hinge shock broke while assembling. I reached out to the company - they shipped a N/C replacement within 2 days. 6 of the bolts supplied with nuts would not thread. I went to Home Depot and replaced them. All in all I would recommend.     • Easy to assemble if you have the right tools

I suggest that you have a rubber mallet and a drill with Phillips head screwdriver bit to assemble this unit. Except where machine bolts are used the panels are not pre-drilled but marked with triangle indentations where the sheet metal screws are to be installed. The front and back panels have tabs which fit into the base of the storage box and then are slid to the right to lock them in (this is where a rubber mallet might be useful). The right and left side panels didn't appear to be marked left or right. They also have tabs and they each fold to form a portion of the front and rear panels. Just make sure the two holes at the top of side panels are attached closest to the rear panel - that's how you determine right from left panels - as those holes support the hinges for the top. After securing the panels to the bottom with the sheet metal screws - you need to flip the box over and use the remaining sheet metal screws to screw the tabs their are protruding through the base to the base. Again the tabs are not pre-drilled for the screws - so a drill with a screwdriver bit is useful. Hope this is helpful. Assembly time is probably around an hour and a half with the proper tools. ... show more

I am reviewing this after owning it only one day, so I suppose its possible there may be something I don't like about it that comes to light in the future. For now, I'd say it is pretty sturdy, appears about as weatherproof and critter proof as you can expect. Get a small carabiner or clip of some sort on the lid hasp to keep it tightly closed. It took me maybe two hours to assemble it. I was able to do it by myself except for about two minutes when I asked my spouse to hold the lid in position while attaching the hinges to the box. It does take a little arm strength and some familiarity with using tools helps. And a fair bit of space to assemble it. I'm guessing it will last many years on our patio. ... show more

    • Lifetime Stands Behind Their Product...

I purchased this Lifetime storage box on Amazon last week and found that contrary to many negative reviews stating that it was difficult if not impossible to assemble, if you have the right tools, including a drill, this box goes together very easily. The only issue I had was that one of the gas closures snap on ends was defective and the top had a small defect in color and not sure if it was a quality control issue at the factory or maybe a shipping issue, I did notice that the cardboard box top had been punctured when delivered by the Amazon truck. So for now it remains a mystery but once I contacted Felicia in Customer Service she made the warranty replacement very easy and now I've been notified that both warranty parts will be sent to me soon.
