I almost had a meltdown when trying to put the first shelf on the rods. All the stoppers fell off, I immediately thought there was no way they could hold a shelf well. Don't let this happen to you! The shelves put pressure on the stoppers keeping them together and right. After the first shelf it got a lot easier.
