Update: I did return this A/C but this is NOT the sellers fault! I have had many LG products and this is the first time that I have had this issue and I believe that it was just a bad A/C. I am not willing to try another one, and will order a different air conditioner. I wouldn't say that this unit is quiet. At lower cold levels or fan, it's a steady noise and much quieter than the very noise old LG that I replaced. When it's at max, it emits a high pitched noise. Not sure if I am going to keep it. I probably will because of the hassle of installing and the though of uninstalling it and returning it but I am not exactly jumping for joy. ... show more

My portable air conditioner recently stopped working, so I needed a replacement. I had not given window air conditioners a try before, as the windows that I have are not designed for them, but I decided to give it a try anyways. The air conditioner was packaged pretty well with ample insulation on the sides, top, and bottom. Despite that, there were a couple dents in the coil, though nothing major or affecting the functionality of the unit. Setup was pretty simple, they include two side pieces for larger windows, and two different kinds of foam tape for smaller gaps. While my installation is completely custom, it was easy to mount this unit into the window. I would recommend one of those brackets that supports the unit from the outside, but it’s not needed if you are going to keep the window securely closed. Once installed, I turned the unit on, but it would not cool. This was because it just was not warm enough in my room for the thermostat to activate. This is my main complaint with this unit. The thermostat is very inaccurate and won’t activate if the room temperature is below 72 degrees. I like to keep my room around 68, which is rather low but this unit is definitely capable of that. I removed the stock thermostat and installed a digital one so I could better gauge the performance of the unit. Once I had done that, the unit was a lot better. The compressor runs at the same speed regardless of what fan setting you use. On low, the fan is pretty quiet, I am easily able to sleep with it on as it provides good white noise. On high, the fan is pretty loud, but it does cool my room quite well, and I have a rather high heat load as I have a computer, 8 lava lamps, and several other appliances on at times. Overall, this is a very basic air conditioner, which I like, however the thermostat is not great. A digital control would definitely be a lot better. However, you can easily install your own for a few dollars, so I cannot complain too much. For the price, I cannot complain too much, it get the job done and does it pretty well. Horrible delay if you want this in time plan far enough ahead was ordered with 2 others and told same day delivery as the others 2days after purchasing. Was given same delivery notifications as the others now taking a week to arrive. Don’t. Ellie e the expected delivery date. Once arrived and set up it has no drain plug is very loud when on. It rattles like it’s cramped with tissue paper the side fan design is too fat and doesn’t seat inside my window frame so a gap is left to be covered up. This is a good unit from a reliable company at a good price if you are not looking for the bells and whistles of a fancy digital smart unit. I am actually using this to replace a fancy digital unit that cost twice the price and the electronics on it failed prematurely, so I decided to go old school and it does the job just fine. Enough airflow to beautifully cool a 10x13 bedroom. I don't need an actual temperature on it because I have realized over time that half the thermostats out there are not accurate anyway. I always have to find a temp that is comfortable on that specific unit. 72 degrees on one unit is exactly the same temp as 68 on another. so just turn the dial to a comfortable temp and leave it there and it is the same thing. The only reason to go digital over this is if you want you temp to vary when you go to sleep, are asleep, and then wake up, but if you are ok with a steady temp from a lightweight easy to install and remove window unit, then this serves the purpose just fine without paying a premium for programmable or voice controlled units with more potential for failure if you just need it to cool the room and keep it cool. ... show more

Finally had a chance to put this one through it's paces. I'll start out with this, this is a basic air conditioner, nothing else. No gimmicks, bells or whistles. If that's what you are looking for, keep looking. This is a nice compact basic air conditioner. It's great for small spaces and cools the air just fine. It makes noise, yes, it's an air conditioner. Given the choice of sweltering heat or a little fan noise, I'll take the noise every time. Installation was a breeze! Get it? This air conditioner installs just like every other AC unit I've installed. Very easy. This is a fine value if you are looking to cool a space. If you want cutting edge programing and doo dad's, keep looking, but all that stuff ends up breaking anyway so you are better off with a simple and cost effective unit like this. ... show more

Picked this up for a guest bedroom setup (around 10x12) and wanted something simple, reliable, and not overkill. After using it for a bit, it does what it’s supposed to do well; however, there are some tradeoffs worth understanding before buying. - Cooling performance is strong for the size; it brings the temperature down quickly and maintains it without struggling, even in a slightly more demanding room than its stated range - Airflow is better than expected for a 5k unit; the 2-way deflection helps direct air where you actually need it instead of just blasting straight out - Controls are simple and responsive- nothing fancy here, but very easy to use and reliable (good if you don’t care about apps or Wi-Fi) - Compact size works well for smaller windows and tighter spaces where larger units don’t fit easily - Washable filter is easy to access and clean, which is nice for ongoing maintenance - The main drawback is how it runs- this unit cycles on and off rather than maintaining a steady, low-level output… not sure if I’ll leave in the guestroom or repurpose elsewhere. That cycling behavior is what stands out. It’s not unusually loud for this type of AC, but it’s noticeable, especially in a bedroom or quiet office. It doesn’t really fade into the background, and the on/off pattern draws more attention than a unit that runs more continuously. Attaching a picture next to a standard side chair to illustrate the conveniently small scale, as well as a couple illustrating how to replace the filter without forcing... using middle tab/ end slots. (I found it useful to share that with the person sharing our home, as I'm afraid previous attempts were somewhat less fortunate... no permanent harm done) Who should buy this: someone looking for a straightforward, reliable AC for a small room, guest room, or occasional-use space where strong cooling matters more than ultra-quiet operation Who should skip it: anyone planning to use this in a bedroom or primary living space where consistent, quieter background operation is important Overall, this is a solid, no-frills unit that is a decent value, cools effectively and is easy to use. Only one cools like it should. The other was received upside down and the box had like an oil substance all around it, also the ac was covered in an oil substance. It rattles and doesn't cool good. Installation was easy, size is perfect. All controls work.
