Description

Compared to conventional pavement, the TRUEGRID system is designed to infiltrate storm water runoff instead of shedding it off the surface. TRUEGRID will reduce the amount of runoff by allowing water to pass through surfaces that would otherwise be impervious. The storm water passes through the load bearing surface and aggregate sub base that are selected based upon the intended application and required infiltration rate. Runoff is stored in the stone aggregate sub base course / storage layer, and allowed to infiltrate into the surrounding soil (functioning like an infiltration basin). A TRUEGRID surface has very high initial surface infiltration rates and can immediately infiltrate and store rainfall and runoff from high intensity rainstorms. In many cases, direct runoff is completely eliminated. The surface infiltration rates for TRUEGRID will in most cases exceed 800 inches/hour. This is several orders of magnitude higher than all the rainfall intensities encountered in the Southwest and Midwest USA. Absolutely love these! I drive skid steer, mule, F250, lawn mower, wheelbarrow, dolly, EVERYTHING over this and it never budges, crimps, or breaks. Very easy to install. Way too pricey but more than worth it. I filled with peddle stone and it looks amazing. Everyone compliments the path. I bought the cheaper option for an adjacent non heavy weight bearing walkway and it came up almost immediately and trips me on the daily, doesn’t hold its shape and in general is horrible. Pay a little extra and get this awesome product instead. I’m going to rip out the other stuff and replace with this product (at the next sale event!). If I could afford it I’d do my entire driveway! Also doesn’t collect water, drains very well, and is really beautiful. ... show more

I purchased this product to construct a patio in place of a hot tub which I had removed--initially I was looking at concrete pavers, but I have 3 mature trees near the spot and the roots are way too dense to dig a conventional foundation. With these, I just graded the site roughly level, laid the tiles down, dumped gravel in, and raked it in, just as advertised. This product, half a cubic yard of pea gravel and a bit of landscape fabric, a wheelbarrow to get the gravel from my truck to the site, and a couple basic tools to spread the gravel really was all that was needed. I wasn't sure what to expect with respect to the surface--I would have imagined that pea gravel would shift underfoot quite a bit, but with the grids in place, standing on it definitely feels very planted. It definitely exceeded my expectations in that regard. The plastic is very thick, and quite sturdy, and the tabs snap together securely but don't require tools to click into place (which is impressive from a manufacturing tolerances perspective). If you need to cut the tiles to make a more complicated shape, you probably can do that, but power tools would likely be required. At about $2.50 per square foot, the price seems steep, but I think they're going to be worth it in the end. Overall, as of the day after the install, I couldn't be more pleased.     • Excellent alternative for "pavers"

So far, I have used it in three applications. One was in front of a shop in my backyard where water stood after a rain. I put a layer of white rock, then the TrueGrid Pavers, and filled them with angled black rock. No more water problems, and looks good. Had a number of tree roots I had to work around, and the TrueGrid pavers were easy to fit using a skill saw. The second application was on a walkway to a grill in my backyard. As the walkway approached the deck the grill sat on it sloped down. Problem - this would accumulate water. Put the TrueGrid pavers down, and again cut them easily to fit the form of the walkway. Put rubber pavers over the True Grid pavers. Ended up solving the water problem by lifting the walkway and yet providing drainage since the TrueGrid pavers are about one inch. Used no gravel in these and yet the walkway over them is solid. You would not know the rubber pavers were not on solid ground. The third application was to extend my driveway. Again, the problem was drainage, and in this case, if cars parked there, ruts. I had thought about using regular pavers, but there are are a bunch of roots and I would have had to dig deep enough to make a base of sand for the pavers and the width of whatever pavers I used. Digging down through roots three to four inches did not sound appealing. With concrete, again there is the problem of digging far enough down to lay a good base and use either wire or rebar. Then there is the work involved in mining the cement. Using the TrueGrid pavers I only had to go down one inch, level the ground, lay the pavers on it and fill them with angled black rock. Works perfectly. Heavy pickups can park on it with no. give, no ruts, and yet it allows excellent drainage. Glad I found this stuff. I have some other projects I intend to use it on. Check out their web site for examples of personal and commercial use and it will also give ideas as different ways it can be used. As mentioned in other reviews, this is an excellent, easy-to-use product. One word of caution for those laying out an area and computing the number of tiles needed: the product measures 24 inches square, but, when snapped together, you lose about an inch in each direction, because the snap-together mechanism makes the tiles overlap. So figure the installed dimension to be about 23 inches square. ... show more

I am in love with these!!! I have a 140 pound Anatolian shepherd who has all but turned my yard into a horse paddock. I was mopping constantly. The mud, dirt and dust were ridiculous. She could use her back feet to sent hunks of sod flying 40 feet. I am not exaggerating! She ran a mud track into yard where previously grass had flourished. Just moving around she did more damage than when I had three large dogs at once. Oh and she digs! Lol. I tried just about everything, including soap stone and gravel, which she just shot around my yard like shrapnel. Not to mention walking on it was like walking through quicksand. Then I got these. They saved my yard! They were so simple and easy to put together I was able to do it while still on restrictions after reconstructive surgery. The box they come in is heavy and awkward so you may need to flip it on take them out a fee at a time but they click together so easily. The material is forgiving if your surface is not completely level. They cut easily with garden shears or tin snips. Do be careful to line them all up in the same direction! These grids now hold gravel, stone and sod in my yard. Every surface is a sturdy as cement and my darling puppy can't seem to destroy them. I've purchased two packs and installed them in the two areas she likes to dig, under all the gravel and along half her running path. I wanted to see if they would work under sod before I bought a third set and they do!!! These are not cheap, but if I could give them stars I would. They have saved my yard and my house from a failed service dog turned rogue yard warrior. ... show more

I waited to write this review until after the product was completely installed and I drove over it. I recently purchased a travel trailer that requires me to back over my boulevard to park. I wanted something stable that would not displace and require ongoing maintenance. My steps were as follows... 1) Remove sod and top soil at minimum 4 inches below grade. Recommend 6-8 inches if soil is soft. I have hard clay so 4-5 inches was enough for me. 2) Layed down woven geotextile fabric. I didn't want to use a basic landscape fabric because it would be destroyed by driving over it within a year. Geotextile fabric is the material that is put under roads to stabilize the soil. Since I have hard clay, soil stability was not a big issue for me but I used it anyway for weed control. 3) Layed down 1 inch crushed rock leaving 1.25 inches below grade for the tiles. Very important to not use washed rock or pebbles for this step because washed rock has rounded edges and does not pack/lock together like crushed. I didn't want to rent a plate compactor so I packed the rock using a manual tamper which I already owned (if I had a larger area I definitely would have rented the plate compactor). This left a nice level & soild surface for the tiles. 4) Layed down the tiles. I chose to cut my tiles in place. I locked them together, then used an oscillating multi-tool to cut them which worked extremely well and was easy. 5) Lastly I used 5/8 inch crushed rock (1/2 - 5/8 inch pieces) over the tiles. I used my tamper again to pack the rocks into the tiles and lock them together. Drove my camper and pickup over the finished product and afterwards you could not even tell my boulevard had been driven on. Awesome product. I have used these to create a patio-like seating/grilling area in my back yard, a handicap accessible walkway from the front of the house to the back Truegrid patio, and as base pads for 3 RVs (under tires and under jacks). They look good, especially with your favorite color of gravel in them, and they hold up very well. Expect weed growth eventually (even with weed cloth or cardboard underneath), and consider using "gravel glue" if you add gravel to prevent it from getting into the cleats of your shoes.
