Could I have lived without this hoist? Yes. However, this is a handy little tool when I need it. While it doesn’t get a lot of use on my family farm, it gets a fair amount of use. Just like anything else, the right tool gets the job done faster and easier. While it’s not necessary, it sure does make life easier. Definitely recommend.

I was surprised to see that this hoist comes in such a small package for something that has a 500 lbs capacity. It's made of good materials, is strong, and it's easy to use. I keep it with me for work mainly because you never know and it doesn't take up much room. My star ratings are generally: 5 stars = exceeds expectations, highly recommended 4 stars = meets expectations 3 stars = does not meet my expectations but you could like it 2 stars = I do not recommend 1 star = wow, completely useless

We've used this to lift our lawnmower and to hoist up some heavy parts to work them into place for our cars. My husband says that it's decent quality for smaller jobs. We didn't try to strain it to figure out just how much it would hold, since we want to use it as much as we can for the small stuff. It does well for him to do mechanic work and he's happy with it. We have it secured to a crossbeam in our drive through garage, which we use for doing our home mechanics work. It's gotten sporadic use in the last few months and it's doing fine. No rusting, straining, or broken parts. We're happy with this for the price.

Update: I had reason to lift my EGO mower again today and was able to take picture of the hoist in use. Please take note of one other safety issue: I lifted it just high enough to slide a pair of automotive jack stands beneath the front end the lowered the mower until most of the weight rested upon them. Safety first! And once again, this hoist is SO much better than a come along. [I'm so sorry that the pictures I took ended up getting destroyed when my camera's SD card fried. So use your imagination.] I used this hoist to lift the front of my 42” EGO battery powered ZTR up to swap out blades. I have a 5/16” eye bolt in the ceiling of my garage that's screwed into a truss that I have tied together with a 2"x6" across several other trusses to distribute the load (note: I caution everyone to take care in lifting a heavy load with any part of their ceiling structure!) and it's so much easier than those cable come alongs. I like a chain! It's as simple as switching the lever from up to down and just ratcheting the load either direction. I really like it and hope to try it out in a horizontal application sometime as well.

Because this hoist has a very small link chain, it takes a lot of cranking to raise anything truly heavy; however, we are confident that us could hold, pull, and lift a few hundred pounds.

I've used a mini-chain hoist like this before, and always wanted my own. I opted for this one with only 5 feet of lift because that's really sufficient for the kind of things I do, and I found with a longer chain, that excess chain tends to get in the way. This hoist is very compact and feels well made. The hardware feels plenty strong for the 500 lb rated capacity. Using the hoist is very easy. Just flip the small lever to either the raise or lower position for the hoist function, or place the lever in the middle position and the chain freewheels for quick placement. There's even a handle on the non-lift end of the chain that can be used to quickly position the chain before a lift. A decent soft case is also included, but it is a bit tricky to get the hoist and chain to fit back in the case. I found that putting the hoist in first and then dropping the chain in on top is easiest. My case came with a small cut on the outside, but I'm not worried about that. The case is going to get banged up anyway, and a dab of glue will patch the cut if necessary. This is really a handy little hoist and will be a great addition to my tools.
