  • More than a shop tool.
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
I used this, paired with a Boss Buck Tripod Header II Unit with Pulley, to pull bushes. (I know, I know... the tripod is only rated for a ton, but it proved to be much stronger.) I'm pleased with the performance so far, after three lilacs. I put 1 ¼" galvanized pipe on the tripod for legs, capped off with floor flanges. The whole arrangement survived my 190 lb weight on the pull chain, several times. I'm learning as I go, finding that you have to wet the ground a day ahead of time to loosen things up. Then you take a half-inch pipe attached to a garden hose to wash a little chipmunk tunnel under the bush. ...Much easier than beating a hole through with a rod. Then you pull a piece of hanger wire attached to a light chain, which is followed by your heavier chain or cable (with only one hook). Pull it completely through under the root ball. Hook your heavier chain/cable to the hoist, and pull slowly. Fair warning: your wife will kid you about the muddy mess you are when you're done, but this is much more gratifying than tearing up the family car or garden tractor, and your lawn, to try, and fail, to pull bushes. ... show more

  • Great value and works great so far...
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
I was a bit skeptical of the quality of the unit given it's rather low pricetag, but it seems I was probably wrong in that assumption. The lift height is a bit more than what I need and at full extension, the chains sit on the floor of my basement. I think about a foot of the hand chain rests on the floor when it's mounted at about a 7 foot ceiling height. I used this to lift my metal lathe off of its stand temporarily so I could make some changes to the way it was mounted. Other than having to look around for something to attach the lathe securely to the hoist, everything went very smoothly. I had no trouble with the chains binding or causing any problems. While I haven't come anywhere close to the load limit of this unit, it seems to be very well made. The only reason I knocked it one star is because whomever put it together at the factory didn't do a very good job. Part of the hand chain was trapped between the pully and the case. The only way to free it was to find a small wrench and remove the three nuts holding the cover onto the hoist, pull the chain free, and then to reattach the cover. This was very minor, however. I think it took me all of 2 minutes to fix. ... show more

  • LIfe is so much easier with a decent chain hoist
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
This item and a sturdy tree made easy work of removing my truck bed when I needed to work on the fuel tank. Have found many other uses for it since them.... Easy to operate and worked very well. Wear gloves as it is well protected from rust.

  • Value for the money
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
Lifted a 350 Chevy and a transmission with ease. After getting the intial knot out of the chain all was good. It was greasy dirty but that’s better than rusty. Clean it off or use gloves to pull the chain until it’s used some.

  • High quality, works fine, but really dirty
Size: 3 Ton (6,000 lb)
This is easily the dirtiest tool I've bought in the past 20 years. It's like they pack it in sooty oily carbon black mixed with used motor oil. Operate this thing while wearing clothes that you never intend to wear again. That said, it worked fine and got the job done. We lifted a piece of heavy machinery that was a substantial fraction of its rated load, so I suspect the load rating is pretty reliable. Would buy again. ... show more

  • works
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
I have only lifted lightweight objects, anvil leg vices, rider mower, and so on, a few hundred pounds, and it lifts with almost no effort. Both hooks are large hoist sling style hooks. The brake is automatic. You pull on either end of the chain and it lifts or lowers. There is no manual unlocking. The chains are covered with smelly black grease that you may want to remove and replace. ... show more

  • Great chain hoist.
Size: 2 Ton (4,000 lb)
Very smooth operation, easily lifts my zero turn mower. Sturdy and well made, wish I would have bought this sooner!

  • It works
Size: 3 Ton (6,000 lb)
It does what it's supposed to do. I wouldn't recommend for longterm use but for an inexpensive solution to a problem it delivered. It's not built elegantly or solidly but is solid enough. Get the one with the higher rated chain. I used it to lift a one ton rock which it did with ease.
