I've used this thing for about a year or so. It has lived outside this whole time, and it's faded... but it works like a champ. Just lifted a Tree mill off my trailer with it, and it didn't mind at all. I won't hesitate to pick up anything up to a ton with it.

I have a workshop that is 14 by 40 feet. I decided that the best way to transfer heavy, bulky objects from one end of the shop to the other was overhead. I have a large workbench in the middle of my shop so it is hard to get around the sides of the bench. I used a garage door roller track and made a carriage using garage door rollers. I first got a rope block and tackle system, but it didn't work very well because while it was rated for enough weight, it didn't have enough mechanical advantage and was hard to use. This chain hoist is perfect! It's about the same size as the block and tackle but it handles more weight and has a lot of mechanical advantage, so it is easy to use. The chain that is used to lift the load is a continuous loop so there's no excess chain to get in the way. If you need a hoist, don;t bother with a rope-based system. This chain hoist is a really good piece of equipment at a good price!

The comments about how dirty this product is are 100% accurate. I can understand having a light coating of oil to prevent rust, but it look, feels, and smells like they USED Motor Oil was used to lubricate the chain. I have used it a couple of times and it works well. I was not impressed with the pin that holds the swivel hook on the end of the chain, so I replaced it with a heavier swivel.

Helps this old man lift a dryer up to the ceiling so I can move my washer out of the tiny 1950’s cubbyhole laundry it’s in. I made a heavy duty hanger plate to provide an hang the chain fall. Easy work and safe.

Yes, the chain is covered by a dark grease. It is their effort to ward off rust. For the price you can't expect galvanized chain. I'm using a pair of leather gloves with it and the grease is slowly wearing off. The hoist works well and I would recommend it. The gear ratio makes lifting easy but this means you'll do a lot of pulling in the process.
