This is a very basic ukulele. The strings were definitely not stretched when it arrived, as it was constantly going out of tune with just a bit of playing. After stretching the strings good and multiple tunings, it was much more stable. This is definitely a beginner’s kit, but it works fine for what it is. The package includes everything you need to get started. The sound quality is fine once you have the strings stretched out.

Good little ukulele, great for a beginner. It did come with a small dent on the face, but that doesn't effect the playability at all. Easy to use, easy to tune, tuning pegs work pretty decently. I do wish it came with pegs for a strap, as I'm not a fan of the clip style strap. It's very pretty to look at, it gets ogled every time I pull it out! The tuner is junk, I can't get the screw to seat flush. Ah well, I have other tuners laying around. I am very much not a fan of the nylgut(?) strings, I can't tell if it's because they're cheap or if I just don't like the material. I do think that the stark white was a bad choice to put on such a lovely uke, it really dominates the overall look of the instrument and not in a good way. Frets are a little unfinished, as is typical on inexpensive beginner string instruments. No worries, I can just file/sand them down. I do really love this little uke, smaller than my carbon fiber concert so it's even easier to just whip out and play with. The voice is quite lovely, especially in Hawaiian tuning (for now, I accomplish this with a capo on the first fret, until I get some new strings in specifically for Hawaiian tuning).

This ukulele is probably worth $35 in terms of materials and manufacturing quality. The strings are low grade and will need to be replaced immediately. The instrument body is made of a very lightweight wood that I worry won't hold up to repeated tuning. It's too light to be a small child's toy but too low quality to study on. I'm just not sure where this instrument fits when it comes to level vs quality.

What a pleasant surprise this little instrument is, a very nice sound, very well put together, attractive, and easy to play. As a ukulele player for years, I couldn't resist getting this little guy for review. I've taught a number of kids to play and I would happily have used this instrument with them. There is really a lot of good here. The build is nice and tidy. The setup is passable. The laminate top and back are attractive, the sides and neck are solid wood, the weight of the instrument is light, and the kit came with an electronic tuner, spare strings, some picks, and a strap (more on these items is below). But most importantly the sound is quite pleasant. The tuners are sealed gear, and although inexpensive, seem to work just fine. Of course, this instrument is not akin to the expensive custom ukuleles I regularly play, but it is a perfectly fine instrument for a person wanting to learn to play. Also, it would make an excellent gift. I was really impressed with the beauty of the neck wood. On my example, it is very nicely striped. Now, why four stars rather than five? There seem to be a number of mass-produced Chinese ukuleles on Amazon, and pricewise this Lekato appears maybe towards the top-end of other similar looking choices. So read the reviews and shop around. But for the money, getting a good, playable instrument should make this one a serious contender. Some things to note: The strings are nylon and will take days of playing, and repeated tuning, to stretch enough to hold pitch well. This is perfectly normal for ukulele strings. When first brought up to pitch, the strings will stretch and go out of tune almost immediately. So initially It requires consistent re-tuning; eventually the strings will settle in. Be patient. It took about a week with ~10 minutes of daily playing for these strings to settle in for me. If you're going to give this as a gift, you might just keep tuning it up for a while before gifting. Youngsters can get frustrated by this break-in process. Also strings are easily changed, and the topic of ukulele strings, and the choices out there, have filled many ukulele forum posts. Fluorocarbon strings are a good and popular alternative to nylon. If you do decide at some point to replace the strings make sure you buy strings for a soprano ukulele, as ukuleles come in many sizes. The electronic tuner is surprisingly good. I compared it to some expensive tuners, and it was accurate enough. The tuner is also small and fits nicely on the carved headstock. The headstock design on this ukulele is also very nice with its off-center swoop. Some of the low-cost ukuleles available do have a strap button on the bottom of the instrument, the Lekato does not. But, for a soprano ukulele, which is so small and light, I rarely use a strap. The included strap looks nice, but was not really useable for me. The instrument hung too low for it to be comfy; after adjustment and putting the strap over my shoulder rather than my neck, I did get it to work some. The kit includes three plastic picks, again many ukulele players do not use picks when playing, but rather just fingers. From my experience teaching children, some kids seem to really like using picks. So to me, anything that gets them to play more, and have fun is fine. The setup on this ukulele was good enough for playing in the first position, which is up by the top of the neck and where new ukulele players almost always play. The action is just fine for this playing. Sometimes low-cost instruments have too high an action, i.e. where the strings are too high about the fretboard to make for comfortable chording. Not the case here, my example is good. I should note that a few of the fret ends were a bit sharp, a common enough issue in factory setup instruments, but not a worry in playing this Lekato. The important thing is that the neck is flat and straight and this instrument is quite good in that respect. Overall, I had fun with this soprano ukulele and would, with the few things noted above, recommend it as a nice, well-made, and playable beginner's ukulele.
