  • Excellent lantern! Very Bright, good battery, easy to use!
The media could not be loaded. My Boy Scout troop recently decided it would be best if we stop using propane lanterns and switch to LED/electric lanterns instead. Reasons for switching to LED/electric lanterns: - Safety: No more concerns about burns, fires, etc. - Simple: No more fiddling around with mantels & no more cross threading fittings - Less waste: No more disposing of green propane bottles I bought three different LED/electric lanterns and my troop used them through our week-long summer camp. It was unanimous that the ToughLight was the best lantern. We then purchased 3 additional ToughLight lanterns for the troop. Key features of ToughLight lantern: - Well built: I cannot stress this enough. We feel this lantern will survive the ‘more extreme use’ that the Boy Scouts tend to put equipment through. - Simple operation: Press button for high, medium, low, flash, off. When lantern is on for a short time – press button once to turn off - It sounds silly but other electric lanterns are not as easy to use/figure out and one ends up getting blinded while they do figure out the operation - Size/weight: Lantern is relatively small size which is nice. It is not very heavy - Don’t think one would backpack with it but it’s lighter than many other LED/electric lanterns - Waterproof: All of our lanterns have been through at least 4 downpours and there is absolutely no water inside Light output: Note: Each of our patrol sites are about 30-40 feet in diameter - We put a ToughLight in each patrol site and it was easily enough light + Low: Good for low traffic times, when Scouts are doing camp game and adults in site + Medium: Good for when scouts are actively around the site. More than enough to see everything (buckets, rope, logs, chairs). This is the setting we used all week at summer camp. + High: Good for when extra light is needed a bit further out. Perhaps collecting wood for setting up camp/fire. We only used this setting as-needed during the week. Battery Life: - We have twice used ToughLight lanterns during our week-long summer camp. The Lanterns EASILY lasted the whole week with at least another 36 hours of battery left. - Summer camp use: ~4 hours per night 5 nights Medium power setting - These lanterns will VERY easily last during a weekend campout EDIT - 1.5 years later: Our troop has been using these lanterns for the past 1.5 years and they have been great! - The scoutmaster notes they still hold a charge and last a long time. - They have proven to be tough - as far as I have seen not 1 part has broken on any of the 4 lanterns EDIT - 3 years later: My troop is still using these lanterns and they are still working as well as when we bought them. - We have 4 lanterns and all 4 still hold a charge very well (sitting on shelf for months at a time) - Still proven tough - still no broken parts on any of the lanterns EDIT - 4 years later: I keep updating my review because these lanterns are fantastic! The company is great and I want to keep supporting them. Hard to believe it was 4 years ago we purchased these. I am happy to report they are all still working very well. My troop goes camping once a month plus a week-long summer camp and these lanterns only require 2-3 charges per year. EDIT - 5 years later My troop is still using these lanterns and they are all 100% intact with no broken pieces. The batteries do take a long time to charge but as noted in my previous updates, the charges do last a long time. ... show more

  • Tough Light is Tough 👍
Charge lasts sitting on the shelf for months. Battery lasts days while in use. Easily chargeable with included cord. I have 2 because we live in extremely rural area with frequent power outages. These are a lifesaver. Worth every penny. Great quality and amazing brightness. Many settings. Charges your phone too. ... show more

  • Probably the best camping lantern out there.
Bright light, I used parchment paper inside the lens to reduce the blinding light. The usb cable to charge these has a longer prong than the standard usb for reach, I tried a standard usb cable and it would not charge. (They should fix this.) The supplied usb cable will store in the bottom. It does not come with a charger but any usb charger will work. I haven't put the battery to test yet.. If it does not live upto the hype I will revise my review. Lithium batteries like to be used and need to be charged every 6 months or so. If you forget to maintain the battery it will die forever. The warranty will be void for storing a dead battery. Let's see if it will go 400 hrs on low. 16 days straight or so.. Pros: Bright non flammable light. Compact yet still outperforms my old dual fuel lamps. The usb cable will store in the base. Long battery life.. 16 days on low. Waterproof. Hanging hooks. Cons: The weird usb c charging cable is unique. Staring directly at the light will hurt your eyes.. (use the parchment paper trick.) Lithium batteries have to be used and you can't forget about them for longer than 6-9 months. ... show more

  • Portable, rechargeable Lantern - best of the lot!
After reviewing several alternative rechargeable lanterns, this is clearly the best of the lot on the market, for use either in household emergencies or camping. The 400 LR (400 lumen) model package contains the lantern, and EXCELLENT instruction booklet, recharging USB cable (and spare(and alternative USB Type C adapter), and was solidly packaged in the container box. The manual included Battery Life Indicators (colors determining charged level). The batteries were only partially charged - Red Light on - but could not determine where amid the 10% or Less charge - and why it came so minimally charged! The manual specifically states that one's Warranty is void if battery allow to go "Dead".... The manual states charge either with car or wall out. I chose to use my car - but I cannot state how long it took....but used the precaution to have the car running and doing errands while the Lantern charged, and when returning it had not fully charged, so left plugged in and several hours later, checks and it was fully charged. Like many other car rechargeable devices, always have the car running when first plugged in.... The manual also includes a chart projecting the specifications of how the unit will perform over Distance, using the Hight (400 lumens), Medium (162 lumens), Low (40-lumens) settings - over Distance, Intensity, Run Time (up to 24, 75, 200-hours, respectively) - and at SOS (265 hours) and Red Light settings. Note: the only reason for NOT rating this 5-stars is the failure of the company web site or telephone listing for questions, to respond. Over several phone messages left and the complete failure of the web site to send emails with question(s)....the manual statement "We are committed to excellence and promise 5-star customer service!....seems rather bogus to this reviewer. Otherwise, its an excellent product, the best rated and alternatives I could find at various street retail stores. ... show more
