  • Solid Introduction to Violin for Adult Beginners
"Learn to Play Violin for Adult Beginners" provides a straightforward introduction to violin playing. The guide is clearly aimed at those starting from scratch, offering basic instructions on how to hold the violin and bow, understand notes, and read music. The book includes over a dozen songs tailored for beginners, which helps in applying what you learn immediately. The step-by-step approach to technique and note recognition is well-structured, making it easier to follow for those new to the instrument. The exercises are designed to develop your ear, which is a nice touch for beginners looking to engage with music beyond just reading notes. However, the guide might benefit from additional visual aids or supplementary material for more intricate techniques. Overall, it's a useful resource for adult beginners, setting a solid foundation for further learning. It's not overly ambitious but achieves what it sets out to do for someone starting their violin journey. ... show more

  • All you need to know, nothing you don't
I've used several teach-yourself-to-play books for various instruments. This is the easiest to follow I've ever seen. The author assumes no prior knowledge, allows for the probablility that the reader is fitting this into a busy life, and explains things clearly. Topics are presented in the most logical order for quickly learning to play recognizable melodies. I had a violin for a while and eventually gave it away. If I'd had this book I'd probably still have it. ... show more

  • VERY THOROUGH
I got this book for my son who teaches music to adults and kids and he finds it very helpful. I remembered a lot of this information from when I studied violin in grade school. This book is very thorough and is easy to understand how to hold the instrument and read the music. It teaches on a beginner's level. It seems that all musicians first learn to play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." ... show more

  • Good Starting Point for Beginners!
This book is a solid choice for anyone starting out on the violin. It’s well-structured, easy to follow, and provides clear step-by-step guidance. The instructions for holding the violin and bow are very helpful, and the included beginner songs and exercises are fun and motivating. However, the quality of the book’s presentation could be improved. The cover feels a bit plain and doesn’t quite capture the excitement of learning the violin. Additionally, the photos inside are a bit inconsistent—some are illustrations, while others are studio photos, which can make the visual flow feel disjointed at times. That said, the content itself is practical and informative, making it a great resource for beginners. If you’re looking to dive into the world of violin playing, this is a good place to start! ... show more

  • It's Never Too Late To Start Something New!
I tried to learn the piano as an adult but felt it was complicated. But this book was simple, with easy-to-understand instructions and helpful diagrams. I really enjoyed the history & background stories behind these classic songs.

  • Good companion for new violin students or independent learners
I have never had the knack for music, even though I tried guitar as a child followed by piano and in later years I took violin lessons. I never got anywhere with any of it. The violin is collecting dust at the back of my closet. But every now and then I think about dusting it off and trying again. This book gave me the inspiration. I'm not saying I'll be playing concerts any time soon, this book have be the nudge I needed and holding the old instrument was fun. You will need a basic knowledge of reading sheet music to follow some of the instructions. But I think if you are like me and had music lessons as a child, this book might remind you of lessons you though you for got and inspire you to try again. ... show more
