If you know a little about wine, you know that a little oxidation is good, softening the wine a bit, especially if it is a younger red, and this is referred to as aeration or letting it breathe. After that, however, oxidation is the enemy, and the wine will be spoiled if not consumed within about a day. This device puts all that on hold. Replace the closure on the bottle, whether it's a real cork, a plastic cork, or a metal screwtop, with one of these stoppers. The stopper functions as a one-way valve. You then use the pump to suction (nearly) all the air out of the bottle. No oxygen? No oxidation. No spoiling. I have been using mine for a few months now, and wines that are several days old taste as good as when they were first served. I've tried several types and more expensive wine pump and stoppers, but the LeCreuset Wiine Pump and Stopper is the TOPS ! Perfect if you want to keep your wine or champagne beverages fresh for when you reopen the bottle ! The Pump pulls all excess air from the bottle leaving a the beverage fresh. !

I have had a Vacu Vin wine pump for ages, but I like Le Creuset products and I thought this metal version would be a nice step up. The pump is fine, but the stoppers....well, there is the problem. After you pump the air out of the bottle, the pump actually pulls the stopper out of the bottle when you remove it. However, if I use my old Vacu Vin stoppers, there is no problem!!! With that said, the pump works well and looks /feels nice....as long as you use Vacu Vin stoppers (they can be purchased separately on Amazon.) And by the way, those Vacu Vin stoppers are also a better design for releasing the pressure. With those stoppers I'd have given this 5 stars. ... show more

The bottle has to have a very slim neck or the stopper pulls right out with the vacuum sealer. I bought this because I have rare bottles of whiskey that the cork is degrading and this would have been an ideal replacement. I suspect it works on slim neck wine bottles but don’t bother with anything even slightly out of standard. Such as another reviewer mentioned, screw cap bottles or for me scotch and bourbon. ... show more

One of the BEST stoppers we have had. Better than any of the others we have tried. And we use them daily for the tasting room. If the stopper gets "tired" put them in ice water overnight. It brings the rubber back to being strong.
