Beat the DC summer heat
I have a pretty inefficient air conditioner in my apartment, and after a vacation in Aruba where my nights were saved by a rotating fan, I realized I needed to purchase one of my own. With Prime shipping my fan was at home before I was. It was very easy to set up, I had no problem with the grates snapping together, it doesn't wobble, and I was able to adjust it to the height of my bed. I've always kept the fan on setting 1. I like the white noise it offers, but I think I'd find the higher settings a bit too loud. On the hottest days I use both the a/c and the fan to redirect the cool air back at me. But now that's it's fall I still like to sleep with just the fan because of the white noise. And it keeps me from being too hot without having to run the a/c all the time. Two year update: I've used my fan every night without any issues, except that like any fan, it's hard to clean. I try to dust it often, but today I took the fan apart and soaked the plastic pieces is the tub with some oxygen bleach powder. I'm very glad everything was plastic and very easy to take apart because now I have a perfectly clean fan again! Five year update: I’ve used my fan every single night for years now with almost no issues. One night the blade came loose and we were woken up by the terrifying racket. Now I tighten everything up every few months and haven’t had any issues. Twice a year I soak everything in the tub to remove collected dust and it’s good as new. The pedestal collected some grime over the years but was spotless after 5 seconds with a magic eraser. I’m so glad I got a good old-fashioned fan because it’s a lot easier to clean and than a tower fan. I know I mentioned the white noise before, but it’s probably the best part about sleeping with this fan. We live in a noisy apartment building, but even when our neighbor is blaring music we can’t hear it from the bedroom. ... show more

I'm a fan of this fan
I love this fan. It's powerful, cools the air on the lowest setting. I live in Southern Florida and although it is October, it's still very hot. My A/C is on the fritz right now and I need a repairman, but until then I need some relief in my living room so I bought this fan. As always with Amazon Prime, I received it in 2 days and I put it together in a few minutes. As far as the noise complaints that I'd read in the reviews, it's a lot quieter than my A/C unit, although it's not silent, but it does circulate the air very well. It averages 85 degrees here every day and I'm satisfied that I'll be able to last until I get my A/C repaired. I also expect my power bill will be less scary this month. ... show more

A basic fan
Between the dust of an old farmhouse and the hair floating around from the dogs, we seem to go through one of these cheaper pedestal fans every 6mo or so. I see no reason for this one to be any different. I usually just pick one up at Wal-Mart but our local one only carries them in season, so we ordered one on here. It moves a lot of air, and seems to be holding up OK so far. Not the quietest fan we have had, but not the loudest either. It is pretty much what I expected for the price when I ordered it. Update - Well, here it is over a year later and this fan is still going strong. We have had it in our bedroom and run it all-night every night and sometimes during the day if one of the kids naps in here. It has held up quite well so far. After taking the plastic cover off the front of the blades to clean it a few times it does not stay attached as well and simply bumping into it will knock it loose. I am really happy with the fan though and have upped the rating to 4 stars. ... show more

some assembly required
I love this fan! It's cooled my house down very fast as I put it right in front of my screen door and angle it up to the second floor. I would say that it quickly dropped the temperature in my house 5 degrees in a half hour and about 10 degrees in 2 hours. Currently the humidity is unusually low outside, however it is late July in PA and it gets down right hot and humid around here so I'm sure this fan will get a work out! The only thing I wasn't expecting was the half hour it took to put the thing together. It wasn't difficult at all, but the fan blades had to be put on the motor, caged, and then the pedestal had to be hand tightened. No tools were needed. I kept the box because I'm hoping I can disassemble this fan in the fall and put it back in the box to store it till next spring/summer. Something that didn't bother me because I put it at my front door was that it pushes so much air that it's a bit loud. If somebody planned on putting this near the TV or telephone then this would be annoying since it is not remote controlled. I would definitely recommend this to anybody without air conditioning! ... show more

Solid, pretty loud, strong airflow, not super tall
We bought a couple of these fans for the kitchen and bedroom which get very hot in the summer. The airflow this baby puts out is high, but this is also a fairly loud fan too. We've only ever used it on the lowest setting, and I'd say the noise level is borderline obtrusive to the people at the kitchen table trying to have conversation. I personally have no trouble sleeping to the significant amount of white noise you'd experience using it in a bedroom, but other may find it annoying. I can't even imagine using the fan on medium or high unless you were trying to ventilate a room that nobody was inside or something. The low setting is more than enough for me. I actually wish the lowest setting were the highest instead and that came with a couple quieter settings. One thing to keep in mind is that the fan isn't nearly as tall as you might think. At full extension, the fan reaches just to the top of the kitchen table to cool the faces of those sitting at it. In the bedroom, it reaches just high enough to be above the mattress level of the bed rather than shooting air at the side of the bed. It's high enough for anything we've used it for; just don't go thinking you can extend it way up to head height. Unlike a few other reviewers, I had no significant trouble assembling either of these 2 fans that I own. The hardest part is at the end with the plastic tabs snapping into the grill. Just be patient and work on all sides of the fan at once, making sure they're snapped in everywhere. Update: 2 years of use and both fans are still working great. The noise is still an issue in rooms where people are trying to talk to one another - not sure I'd buy this fan again. ... show more

It's a fan! And it blows!
Yes indeed ladies and gentlemen, this here Lasko fan blows, just like it's supposed to. The three settings should be renamed High, Insane and Hurricane though, as "low" is most certainly NOT low. This might be a problem for some of you, but honestly, it's a fan, I bought it to move air and that's exactly what it does. I like this fan an awful lot. It's very, very quiet (a plus for using it when sleeping), easy to assemble (no advenced Ikea-type degree needed) and is a cinch to clean (lots of animals and dust in my house. sigh). For the price, the fan really can't be beat. Yes, it's plastic, but metal fans kinda scare me, so I like that. My last fan (RIP Wendy!) had only 3 blades on the fan-spinning part, and I'm already able to tell how much nicer 5 blades are. (Hmm, just like razors. Interesting.) So if you want an inexpensive fan that will move the air around you quietly, quickly and is easy to clean, this is the one for you! ... show more

Best Pedestal Fan Ever!
We use fans to augment the window air conditioners in our home, so I've owned a lot of them over the years and this one is the absolute best! First, no tools to assemble it. Second, it has it's own system of holding the front to the back - it snaps on instead of using all those plastic clips that fall off or break or get lost (one of our old fans is held together with wire, at the moment). Third, the three fan settings are just right - instead of wimpy, not quite as wimpy and tornado force. Really - low, medium and high. The oscillation is wide and they run efficiently and quietly. I love these fans. After purchasing the first one, I bought two more and I was so impressed with the brand that I bought a small table fan with which I'm equally impressed. Undoubtedly, I'll buy a couple more for the upstairs, next year. They're the best; can't recommend them highly enough! ... show more

Was very bad!!
Was very bad!!!!. The switch was Very Defective,the whole switch/speed housing was mfg. DEFECTIVE.The four wires came out of the speed/switch housing,the housing seperated,mfg. Defect.The only Good thing was that, I already had the Exact fan,from yrs. Ago,that had stopped working.call it perception,but I had actually told my son that I wasn't going to get rid of the old fan,until I knew the New one worked correctly. I Removed the speed switch from the old fan,and installed it into the New one..It was as good as new.Memo to the MFG/Vendor... they Need to be Recalled for that,that's a fire hazard. And they,the MFG. need to STOPPED compromising Quality to save money. ... show more
