  • IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED
Color: Black 5586 Size: Tower Heater Style: space heater
I cannot say much more than reviewers Pog Champ and D.Jones have said in their detailed reviews. I like the unit, it's quiet and light weight . What I experienced was a bit of difficulty attaching the base. I finally laid the unit on the table and had my wife hold the unit steady while I lined the base up to the body so the little block on the base fit in place and then attached the 4 screws. My suggestion to Lasko is to make the unit with a base that is already attached and part of the unit and have the electrical cord coming out of the base through a cutout in the back of the base. I found a time lag of seconds before i got the unit to oscillate and I notice the same lag when using the remote. I don't know why that is because I also have a Lasko fan tower and there is no lag using that in the summer. The only other thing is that there is a bit of an odor, which should go away once the unit is used for a longer period. You won't go wrong purchasing this model. Just wait for a good sale. ... show more

  • Great heater, with some quirks
Color: Black 5586 Size: Tower Heater Style: space heater
It became really cold here so I ordered this heater which arrived after the cold weather had passed. Now I have a cool, grey tower in my room just waiting for some cold weather to blast through the south again. I still tested the thing anyway. To start, it came in some brown, non-discreet rectangular packaging. Everything was included. The unit was well-protected and clearly new. Getting it out the box was easy. Assembling the heater was also no problem. To get the stand ready, connect the two halves together then use the two smaller screws to stick them together. Getting the stand attached to the main unit was also easy. My recommendation is to put the main unit on its side and then pull the power cord through the hole in the stand. Once done, flip the main unit upside-down, use one hand to stabilize it then use the other to attach the stand. You simply spin the stand until it clicks into place then screw it with the four longer screws. You route the cable through the two plastic clips and you're done. Assembly was problem-free and only took me a few minutes. Apparently, there's two different remotes, one with a screen and a more basic one. Mine has the basic remote which wasn't a big deal since I got it working with my universal remote and I never planned on using it anyway. The remote feels lightweight, cheap, and the buttons are noisy. The transmitter in the remote isn't great either. It requires you to be dead-center when aiming at the unit. It isn't a problem with the heater since it works no problem with my universal remote even while oscillating - it comes down to the remote. The buttons on the main unit are also wobbly and loud. It's a shame because everything else about the product is great. The base is sturdy. The heater itself is smooth and blends in well with it's grey body and black strip. Because the power cable comes from under the base, it is easy to hide. The heating element doesn't span the whole front of the unit. It's in the center and takes up about a third of the front which is the purpose of the included picture, but it still looks great either way. Time for controls and performance. The buttons on the remote mimic the buttons on the unit. You get a power button which powers the unit on and off, an oscillate button which makes the unit turn and toggles out of temperature control mode, a timer button which lets you control the auto off timer (there's no auto on), a + button and a - button which controls the temperature down to a single degree, and a high or low button which controls the intensity of the heat. The unit has a red LED light that's always on when plugged in. I don't think the light is that bright so it's not distracting to me, but I'm posting this as a warning. Whenever you make a change, it beeps. The beep isn't that loud to me, but I'm expecting some people to find it annoying. When the heater is operating normally, it shows the current temperature of the room. I just so happen to have a thermometer kicking around and the readout from the heater has been close so far, usually off by one degree or so. It isn't silent while operating. There's a low hum that's barely noticeable when it's on low, but this increases a bit when it's on high. I don't find it distracting and consider the noise to be acceptable. The oscillate function has no added noise for me. I only get noise when it stops since you can hear the heater lock into place. For performance, the thing is stellar. It outputs serious heat on low and might turn a small room or a bedroom (I have it in the master bedroom) into a sauna on high. Temperature control works as expected with the heater shutting off once it hits whatever temp you set it to and turning itself on once going one degree below that temperature. It's a very impressive heater except for one problem. Automatic temperature control only works on the High setting. When you switch it to Low, it gets disabled. Since the heater on Low is more than enough for my room, I'd much rather use it on that intensity with automatic temperature control. This is a baffling design decision to me and almost docked a star for it, almost. Outside of that or if you don't find that a big deal, I highly-recommend it. ... show more

  • Bigger than the other Lasko unit I have
Color: Black 5586 Size: Tower Heater Style: space heater
This unit is rather taller than the other Lasko unit I have and a tad more difficult to assemble. (It's not hard to assemble, I propped it up, upside down, against a chair and proceeded - but take care not to overtighten the screws else you risk stripping the plastic threads.) Unlike my other Lasko unit, this one is emitting some (not a lot, but definitely not none) of that famed "Chinese factory scent". I am sure it will burn off, which is why I'm running the heater for a few hours in a ventilated room. ... show more

  • Powerful and Simple
Color: Black 5572 Size: Tower Heater Style: Traditional
Just bought and received this through Amazon. A family member recommended the Lasko brand after his purchasing a few different models and sizes himself in the past three years. After further researching different models and brands, I purchased this one because it rated highly on Amazon.com and other sites -- including bestcovery.com -- in the Top 5 for Best Tower, Best Large Room, and Best Oscillating. Below I'll describe a few things to help others trying to decide....including why I was looking, features I sought, setting it up, and how it performed first two days. WHY: I live in a cold, damp geography during winter and the home's central electric heat seems to be on all the time. Needed something for a large open living/dining/kitchen poorly insulated space on the first floor ~800 sq ft, which is typically colder. FEATURES SOUGHT: Specifically, features I wanted and influencing my decision for this model: --Ceramic (no open heating elements) --Powerful ~1500 watts (for large space) --Automatic Thermostat / Auto Temp Control (for minimal muckying around myself) --Long Timer (8 hours) --Timer Self Shut Off --Oscillating (for better heat distribution) --Remote (for use in other rooms) --Wider/heavier at bottom than top (for better stability) --Slim & simple design to be as inconspicuous as possible --Simple heat fan speeds (High/Low, again for least muckying) --Price (close to $50) I already had a HEPA air filter/ionizer in the space, so didn't need the filter function. Other models I compared to had shorter timers, lower wattage, smaller size, no oscillators, and/or no remote. SET UP: Received the box undamaged, opened and set it up. At under 6 lbs, the unit was light weight enough for little ol' me to pull out of box and stand without strain. ;-) Handle on top / back is a generous size to be able to move the unit a few inches with a single hand. Read instructions, plugged it in, turned on power, and the unit did what the instructions said. It started on high and read current room temperature at 63*F. Followed instructions to use buttons, then set C or F, target temp to 75*F, and oscillating on. PERFORMANCE FIRST TWO DAYS: Very impressive. It began pumping solid heat on high. Within an hour it read 70*F in the space, and within two hours it read 73*F. Checking against another thermometer I had, it was only about a degree difference. Within 3 hours, it read 75*F and turned itself off for a bit. It's a large space, so I was pleasantly surprised. Concluded the time it took to get to 75* was a function of the inherent coldness and lack of insulation in the space, not of the heater output. THINGS I NOTICED RIGHT AWAY: --Be sure to have two AAA batteries handy when it arrives to install in remote. Unit ships without batteries. --Heat output is clearly noticeable. --Oscillating function makes no noise. --It's the high fan setting that makes a moderate volume whir. Low fan noise is barely noticeable. --Font size of the Temp display is large ~3/4" and easily readable, on both the unit and remote, so I don't have to use reading glasses. --Remote is very light weight. It works from as much as 20' away, but main unit display needs to be facing where you/the remote are. --Beeping happens for every press on both unit and remote, but it's a reasonable volume. Folks with sensitive sleeping children may want to really consider this. It'd be nice to have a High, Low, or Mute volume setting, but for the price and knowing this model didn't have one, it's acceptable. OVERALL: Great unit, works well, as promised, and I'd definitely buy this Lasko again. NOTE: I also ordered a DeLonghi comparable model for the master suite, and am awaiting shipment/receipt. It has had similar Top Tower reviews. Unlike this Lasko model, I ordered the DeLonghi TCH7690ER Safeheat specifically for these functions I needed for the master bedroom space: --Fan-Only function without heat for summer use summer --24 hour timer --Air/dust filter --Tip over safety turn-off Once received, I'll try to post a review of it. Happy sleuthing! ... show more
