Assembly: Was very excited to get my new fan. Never had one in the 18 inch size or more importantly, with a remote! The frustration free packaging brown box is very basic with no extra wasted packaging, clamshells or straps. It was a little tricky what you grab to wiggle the contents out the box but all seemed OK. I followed the instructions and assembly of the fan was straightforward until I reached the outer fan blade grills. You pretty much need to work your way around and align and snap the grill on. Again, you really need to put some work into it and verify both half’s are aligned and fit tight. These grills are warped due to how it is packaged and will probably straighten out over time when assembled together. By now, you realize just how many plastic parts this fan has and sadly, much of it is very low quality plastic. The fan blades themselves are very thin and flexible plastic and could lead to some of the noise problems others have been experiencing here. There seems to be some minor plastic flashing or casting leftovers on the fan blades and this will also cause noise. By the way, I bought two at the recent $32.99 price drop. Operation: The remote control is a joke! I did expect it to be a simple RC but not a toy. At least it uses 2 AAA batteries (not included) instead of hard to get/expensive button cells. I initially put the fan on from the front panel and checked the different speeds and really did not know what to say to myself. Low is like the very high on my 16 inch fan and medium and high on this beast are just not something I will or can ever use. I now use one in my bedroom, keep it on low and feel the wind/blade noise is great for me to sleep. The motor is whisper quiet but the trust of the wind through the blades is very loud. I like the white noise and I slept like a baby last night with it. The LED for low, of course, is the brightest one of the three speeds and was a minor issue. This will get taken care of today with some black electrical tape. I tested the RC distance (both fans) and was able to get 25+ feet with good aim. The fan front panel needs to be exactly strait to you when the aim the remote or it will not be consistent when it works. This fan will not tip over either during normal operation and has a nice wide base. Problem I Encountered: One of the fans has a pronounced hum like when you energize a large electric motor (inductance). It is loud and can be heard even from another room. If I did not have two fans to compare, I would have just written it off that this fan can suck up to 0.9 Amps of electricity and that was its normal operation. I left it on for three hours and it did not go away. It seems to be a defect and I could never live with because it could drive anyone insane. I called Amazon today and it is a done deal that it is going back, no problem, they are 5-star all the way. These fans are cheap quality and you are getting exactly what you pay for. I am getting a refund on the one going back and really do not need two of these knowing now they are not your typical fans for typical sized rooms. I hope this could also help someone here not make a mistake and order more fan than what you really need – this fan is for very large rooms. I got this fan (model 1843) both for white noise and to cool my ~550 ft/sq apartment. Set on low it does a great job at both tasks. It was well packed and super easy to assemble. The nuts for the fan and cage are clearly labeled regarding turn direction via engraving so it can't be scrubbed off. The remote works well and even comes with adhesive backed hook and loop tape squares so it can be attached to a shelf or wall to prevent losing it. However there are a few reasons I only gave it 4 stars. 1. Issue: The front panel of the blade cage doesn't secure well. Fix: There are 2 screw holes in the rim of the back panel of the cage that line up with 2 holes in the front panel. (Make sure the Lasko logo is right side up and they will align.) Use a couple of 1/4 inch diameter, 1/2 inch long wood screws, inserted from the back of the blade cage to secure the panels together. (The holes in the front panel are not threaded, which is why I recommend using wood screws.) 2. Issue: The motor and fan assembly doesn't secure to the pole. It just rests on it without locking to it. Fix: This doesn't matter all that much to me, though it might for others. Pick up the fan by the support pole instead of the fan head. The pole seats pretty far up into the fan head, which is nice, so I'm not worried about it falling off. The pole also tension locks into the base so the base doesn't fall off when it is moved. (I kicked it by accident while testing placement and the base stayed on.) 3. Issue: For a fan this tall, the cord is awfully short. Fix: Use a surge protector. Be sure to check the amperage of your surge protector to make sure the fan - together with anything else plugged in - won't exceed its rating. All in all it is a great fan for the price and I would definitely purchase it again. ... show more

For under $60, this is a good choice. Yeah it's a plastic fan, but it's a good one. Fan diameter is 18" and the airflow is powerful for a fan where the blades are flexible plastic. I actually prefer this blade design as opposed to your classic trio 'whale-fin' design. This design drives more airflow and you can feel it. It has 3 speed settings and 3 timer settings giving you the option between 1, 2 and 4 hours of run time. I really like the timer feature which I use to go to bed. It helps to keep the air in my room cool to breathe and fall asleep and shuts itself off in the middle of the night so I don't wake up with a stiff neck due to the constant cool air hitting me. At the highest setting, the fan stands almost 55 1/2" tall. The base only measures about 19" in diameter so it doesn't take up much floor space and it comes with a remote requiring 2AAA batteries. (Not included; but i already invested in quality rechargeables🤓). It's easy & quick to assemble right out of the box. No tools are required. I also love the fact that the grate and blades are simple to take apart and clean. I actually don't mind that all these parts are made of plastic because I can rinse and wipe these parts in my bathtub without worry that they will rust and corrode. All in all this is good choice. If I had to pick 1 negative, (and it could be a deal breaker) it would be the motor lifespan. My 1st LASKO lasted over 2 years of moderate use. My 2nd one only lasted about a year with constant all night use and all-day Spring & Summer use before burning out. Still, I like this brand for the price & performance and ease of cleaning. If you want the fan-that-rules-them-all, this is NOT for you. You might need to spend alot more $$$$money for that! If you want a good fan at a fair price, this one is a GOOD CHOICE. ... show more
