This laser performs very well as long as it is focused properly. It engraves wood easily and is very precise. Which is why I purchased it. The rotating head allows you to aim the laser in any direction for different sized projects. So far, its been perfect!

This laser engraver sounded like a nifty gadget to have for personalizing miscellaneous small items. I had never tried such a device but figured the place to start was a beginner model. The device is compact and well-built, with sturdy metal parts and a strong stand with a support that allows the engraver to be adjusted up and down or at an angle to work with objects of different shapes and sizes. It's supplied with safety glasses, a few sheets of test paper, and what looks like a strangely truncated wooden ruler, which finally makes sense when you read that it's the same length as the optimal target distance at 8 inches. It was easy to set up but required a little fiddling to figure out. Using it requires an app that feels somewhat privacy-unfriendly, and refusing any of the privacy terms boots you straight out of the app. I imagine some trial and error is going to be needed for every different type of item you want to engrave, so know that there will be an added cost for extra test materials. One thing became clear right away: you should use this outside. There will be fumes as the laser burns away parts of your paper, leather, etc. I tried to use it with a power bank without success, but luckily there was an outdoor outlet. It took a few tries but then I was able to engrave a lemon, because that was one of the examples they gave and it was too funny not to try. The list price is high if you aren't sure you will use this a lot, but there are significant discounts sometimes. If you get into it, you might outgrow this and want a fancier, advanced (even more expensive) model. If you are just looking to have fun and use it for a few projects and for gifts, this model works well. For beginners, this compact and highly portable setup is ideal.
