The work by just touching the top, flat wood surface and are attached to your wall with SUPER-DUPER HEAVY 3M-like tape. The owner told us it took her 15 minutes start to finish! (Just remember, she told us, to measure exactly where you want them, and reminded any renters in our party NOT TO APPLY THEM, because they take paint right off the wall if you decide to move them! They are 1 Day delivery (ours went missing from our front porch, so Amazon asked only that we look all over to find them -after we did we phoned back and they issued an immediate refund so I can order them immediately!!) I’m using this in my camper by the bed. Easy to shut off or grab for middle of the night emergencies to the bathroom. The magnet is super sting. It didn’t fall off in route. It is small about the size of the palm of my hand.
