  • design and easy to assembly!
very happy with good quality product!

  • Great STEM build if you follow the motor setup.
This was a fun build and a good hands on way to learn how the different parts of a robot car work together. The instructions are generally clear, and once assembled there is a lot to experiment with between manual control, line tracking, obstacle avoidance, and the camera. The one thing I would stress is to pay very close attention when installing the wheel motors. I somehow mounted mine in the wrong orientation, so forward goes backward, left goes right, and the automatic modes just jitter because the car is trying to move the opposite way from what the software expects. Manual control still works, but fixing it means taking part of the car back apart. Fun kit, just double check that step before moving on and maybe connect all the electronics temporarily to test before continuing the rest of the build. ... show more

  • Engineering Degree Optional
Let us be real: the LAFVIN R3 Smart Robot Car basically feels like you have smuggled a science project into your living room. This Robot Car has a camera it has line-tracking. It has obstacle avoidance, which honestly makes this Robot Car smarter than some of my relatives. Putting this Robot Car together is a mix of fun and total frustration. You will spend a while squinting at wires wondering if you accidentally signed up for an engineering degree. Once this Robot Car actually rolls across the floor without face-planting into the couch you feel like a genius. The obstacle avoidance of this Robot Car is surprisingly decent. It dodges chair legs like a squirrel. Though sometimes this Robot Car just stops and stares at the wall like it is debating whether to fight it. The line-tracking of this Robot Car is also pretty cool especially if you put tape on the floor. Just a heads up: keep this Robot Car away from patterned tiles unless you want to watch it spiral out of control like it is trying to win a NASCAR race. The camera of this Robot Car is a touch but do not expect anything fancy. The camera of this Robot Car is like gas station security footage than a Hollywood movie, but it is still fun to see what this Robot Car sees. Watching this Robot Car scoot around with a purpose is weirdly satisfying. Kind like a Roomba that actually went to college. Overall, this Robot Car kit is great if you are into STEM if you like tinkering or if you just want to prove to your family that you can build a robot that does not immediately catch fire. This Robot Car is quirky it is a bit chaotic. It is basically like having a pet that runs on batteries instead of kibble. ... show more

  • Such a fun project, I couldnt help modify it!
The build on this was very straight forward, and only took me a couple hours while watching TV to get it together. The acrylic chassis is sturdier than I expected for a kit under forty dollars, and the boards came cleanly soldered. The software is already loaded onto the Arduino and the camera module, which saves you a whole evening of driver fiddling. Once it is rolling it behaves better than I thought it would. The obstacle avoidance dodges chair legs pretty confidently, and the line following holds a taped line across the living room fine. The live feed on my phone shows the room through grainy security camera style video, which is not exactly pretty, but it is enough to tell which way the car is going. The kit does not include the 18650 batteries, and the remote needs a CR2025 on top of that, so nothing moves until you order those separately. At forty dollars it is definitely a solid starter kit for a kid who likes taking things apart. The whole thing is open sourced on arduino IDE framework which means you can modify and customize the code to your hearts content. Awesome! ... show more

  • A Great Balance of Learning and Fun
This is a fun kit to build. Lafvin is great at making these sorts of kits. The instructions are easy to follow. They’re better, in my opinion, than the online instructions I’ve encountered with some of their newer kits. Something that makes this kit a little easier, and perhaps a little better for beginners is that the software necessary to run the vehicle is already installed in the memory of the Arduino, and the code needed for the camera is already installed on the ESP32-S3. All of the other Lafvin kits I’ve encountered required these steps to be taken by the user. Something to be aware of: the car requires 18650 lithium batteries to power it. They’re not included with the build kit, and they’re not a common size of battery, so it’s a good idea to order some at the same time the vehicle is ordered if you want to operate it as soon as it’s built. The remote control also requires a CR2025 battery, which is not included. The only other problem I came across is that there were a couple of spacers and screws for mounting the camera that weren’t included with the kit. I was able to improvise and attach the camera to its mount. In spite of these few minor difficulties, I’d still recommend this kit. It’s an excellent option for learning some of the basics of electronics. Even the missing pieces are an opportunity. I worked as a professional tech for quite a while, and dealing with missing parts and finding workarounds is part of it. Even with the issues, this kit is a lot of fun for the price. ... show more

  • Very comprehensive kit, sturdy as well
This is a complex kit, though it's comparatively easy to assemble. At least, compared to designing everything and figuring how to put it all together. In that regard it's a great introduction, and kids especially will feel like they've conquered the world when they get it all up and running. If you're more experienced you will know that the kit designers did a ton of work to make it all come together like it does, and they also wrote all the software. Making a robot this complex strictly from off-the-shelf components would require a ton of work and would greatly exceed the skills of a beginner. And from there, if you're brave, you can always start to customize the behavior. It's a cool opportunity for kids to build something complex, but still in a fairly risk-free environment where it's pretty easy to troubleshoot and figure out why things might not be working. It comes with a ton of functionality, so it's also a good demo of amateur robotics. ... show more

  • A Fun and Educational Robotics Project
Building this robot car kit is an excellent introduction to programming and electronics, making it perfect for anyone wanting to learn about STEM topics. The kit comes with a high quality main control board based on the popular Arduino platform, which is widely supported and easy to program. The included sensors are exactly what you need to build an intelligent machine: the ultrasonic sensor detects obstacles effectively, allowing the car to stop or change direction before crashing into walls. Meanwhile, the infrared tracking modules underneath the chassis let the robot detect a black line on the floor and follow it smoothly without losing its path. The addition of the camera takes the project to another level, allowing for real time visual feedback and more complex programming tasks. This robotics kit provides fantastic value for money because of its versatility; once you assemble the parts, you can write endless variations of code to make the car perform new tricks. The material quality of the acrylic chassis and electronic components feels sturdy enough for regular use, holding up well as beginners repeatedly test and tinker with their builds. I appreciate that it blends mechanical assembly, circuit wiring, and software logic into one engaging project. Everything needed is packed inside, saving the trouble of buying individual pieces piecemeal. This is highly recommended for tech enthusiasts or students looking for a practical, hands on learning experience. ... show more

  • Awesome kit
There is so much value here for the current price. The kit is very well out together and the instructions are great. This is a fantastic kit for older kids and younger teens. I even had fun with it and I am quite a bit older than that. The parts are all well made and the circuit boards are well soldered and the components are strait and secure. This kit makes learning robotics approachable and fun. This is a great way to get a small and inexpensive dip into the pool of robotics and I really recommend this car. The finished product looks awesome and seeing all of the tech is great. ... show more
