  • Would recommend for post-neuter under some supervision!
Size: Small (Back:11.4-13.4'', Weight:7-15 LB) Color: Lemon
I really researched a lot of suits available on Amazon before landing on this one, and I’m really content with my purchase. I bought a size small for my 1 yr old 10lb pomernian with lots of fluff after his neuter, and this size was great. The material is soft and comfy for him. It’s thinner but is pretty good quality. A loose thread or two, but nothings ripped and has helped up perfectly. I bought it because my little guy was having a tough time with his cone. We could barely chew his bones or use his food and water bowls, and he was getting pretty frustrated. I think he was more bothered by the cone than the stitches! He was much happier with the surgery suit. He doesn’t like clothes or wearing anything, but he didn’t seem bothered by this one bit and slept in it with no problem. Although I looked for suits that he would be able to go potty in with removing them, most of those options likely wouldn’t have covered his incision area. This surgery suit covers his incision area very well! However, if he sits up, he’s able to wiggle his tongue down the leg holes and get pretty close to it. It’s definitely difficult for him to reach it and provides a lot of protection, but for this reason, we only use the surgery suit when we can still supervise him, and use the cone when we’re asleep or away. Still worth it in my opinion. If you’re looking for a total cone replacement, I think an option with pant legs may be your best bet. I was also concerned that removing the lower half for potty time would be a hassle, but it’s really simple and fairly quick. Maybe takes 15 seconds if he stands still, but about minute if he’s a wiggle worm. ... show more

  • A must-have instead of the cone of shame.
Size: X-Large (Back:20.1-24.8'', Weight:42-75 LB) Color: Purple
Worked surprisingly well. This is the first dog I’ve had spayed myself. Usually rescues have been spayed by the time I take them home, so wasn’t prepared for the agony and vomiting after surgery. I wanted to avoid the cone of shame, I figured it would be torture after the confusion and pain of surgery. After the first vomit I remarked how grateful I was she was in this bodysuit instead of a cone. Her head would have gotten vomit all over it, poor girl. By the fifth time that night I was simultaneously swearing I would never put another dog through this and admiring the genius of the person who came up with this bodysuit. I was worried she would be able to get her snout between the overlap of top and bottom of the suit but she never did. The only time she went for her stitches was when I took off her suit. I was able to roll the bottom part over her tail and secure it so she could do her business outside without getting it dirty. To be honest, the first time out I forgot to do that so she peed through her suit 🙄 but I’d ordered two other suits to rotate over the 10 day recovery, so lesson learned. My dog is a 44lbs golden doodle, medium all around but based on reviews, ordered an XL. I don’t know the size difference between L and XL but I wonder if the L would have been too small. As others have mentioned, the length of the back should be a little longer. These XLs worked well, and protected her stitches, all while eliminating the misery of wearing a cone. ... show more

  • Perfect, but size is inconsistent and shrinks
Size: X-Large (Back:20.1-24.8'', Weight:42-75 LB) Color: Pineapple
I'm giving this four stars because you should consider it but be aware of some facts first. It turned out perfect for my dog, allowing her to heal a large incision without having to wear a cone but generally the quality of this product is just weird. In brief, it could be absolutely perfect for your dog but if you can, it would be smart to order more than one in different sizes. If you know your dog is going to be having a surgery maybe buy it ahead of time to test it out. My female dog who had a splenectomy and would have had to wear a cone for over a week without this. Her incision runs in a straight line on her underside, from about her sternum to her pelvis. The onesie covers all of her body other than her legs and there is no way she'd be able to take it off herself. She seems perfectly comfortable though and doesn't try to. It's very easy to get on if she's standing and pretty easy if she's laying down and can't get up. With some onesies you might have trouble with peeing and pooping but this is perfect because you can easily undo the velcro, pull the back end out through her legs and tail, then fold it forward on her back and fasten it again. It takes 5 seconds and frees up her rear end so there's no mess. You could also easily put it over a diaper. The problems are that the size is all over the place. I have one that is very snug, one that's quite loose and one in the middle. Another is a good fit on the top half of her body but the lower part that covers her butt is very loose. If I were trying to cover her butt or hips and she was trying to get at it to lick, that particular one would be useless because she could get her snout in the openings. But the other 3 I bought would totally work for that. There is kind of a loop thing on the top of her back where supposedly you should be able to have the velcro ends underneath but it is impossible because the opening is nowhere near wide enough to fit the strap in. Like by an entire inch. It's not necessary though because the velcro is very strong. I don't think it would add anything for me to be able to hide the ends under that. Every one of these I've purchased has a different size opening too, which is extra weird. I get the feeling that whoever is making these is just cutting the fabric freehand without a pattern because they are so insanely irregular. One more thing about the size is that I went with an XL because it's what I could get delivered overnight and figured I'd try just in case so she didn't have to wear a cone, but I never would have thought she'd be an XL but a L would not at all be big enough. Still, I wouldn't say specifically to size up though because the size is so unpredictable from one to the next. Other problems are that it shrinks a bit when you wash it which is a problem if you got one that is already snug. None of mine shrank so badly we couldn't use it though. Dry on low heat because the velcro gets stiff and curls if you dry it on high heat. The fabric is thin so don't think this is going to keep a skinny dog warm but I was happy to have something covering my girl's shaved belly because it is winter right now. If you need a onesie or want to try it out to avoid having to use a cone, I do recommend trying it if you want a solution to avoid the cone. But, if you can order multiple sizes and return what doesn't work for you I would recommend that. If you can order more than one even of the same size it might work out because the irregularity could make one fit well but not another of the same size. Also, if you can order other brands to compare it would be a good idea. Check out what the return policy is first. I would never normally recommend something of this poor quality, but for me it was really worth it because my dog's incision is big and otherwise easy for her to scratch and lick and with how hard it is for her to walk right now a cone would be terrible and she'd be falling down all the time if she tried. She has been through a lot lately so I'm glad we had these. ... show more
