  • This is an absolute cooling beast!!
Absolutely the best window a/c ive ever used, and ive used many. This beast cools my entire home and does it quickly. Far more efficient than running the little 110v units which ran nonstop all day long. Im in new orleans, and in the middle of the most brutal heat wave in recorded history. Even though i keep the unit set to 68 degrees, i was completely shocked when it actually shut off after reaching temperature. Ive actually had times where i had to turn it off because i was COLD! Imagine that. The best purchase ive made. Ive had it only a short time so i will update if reliability has issues but i dont expect any. The thing runs great and all the reviews i read before buying said the unit was very reliable. This all surprised me so much because, after doing a lot of research, i was under the impression that fridgidaire and frederick were 2 of the best. I was all set to buy a fridgidaire but, thankfully, it had sold out. Also, i had been reading amazon reviews and noticed there were a number of bad reviews on both fridgidaire and frederick, especially with their reliability and poor customer service. When i found the koldfront, i almost dismissed it because id never heard the name before. However, after reading the reviews and realizing i could find no negative reviews and plenty of rave reviews, i decided to take a chance on them while praying i didnt end up having to return this beast. The only issue i had with this entire experience was with the delivery. This thing comes on a pallet and is delivered by a freight company. They were, according to the ad, supposed to call me to set a delivery date. They didnt and it just showed up one day while i was at work. They dropped it in my driveway. I had to rush home from work while praying no one tried to steal it, even though that would be difficult given the size and weight. I would recommend calling the freight company the day after you place the order to make sure you know when you need ro be home. This issue does not, in the slightest, affect my exyreme pleasure at what ive experienced since its been installed. This is a big unit so make sure you have the room and an extra hand to help you get it installed. I had ignored this advice because im pretty strong and just figured the advice was for people of less oomph. However, i ended up needing a hand at the end to get it up the last bit to get it into the window. Well worth everything involved, however. I would buy again and recommend highly! ... show more

  • 25k BTU PROS & CONS
25K BTU AC in a 1200 square foot house. This AC is awesome!!! I do list more cons than pros... but the pros still outweigh the cons by far.... This unit blows any 110v AC away. This unit does require a special 220v 30 amp plug...I have not used the heat function and probably never will. PROS: When u crank it up it really throws out A LOT of cold cold air. I mean within minutes u can tell it's on at the other end of the house. Dehumidifier mode build right into this model. Delivery was later than expected but once they contacted me it went very smooth. CONS: The thermostat only goes down to 62 :-( Thermostat seems to be off a solid few degrees. When the AC is set at 64 degrees the house stays 68/69.. Energy Saver Mode cycles the AC on/off for many minutes at a time even if the house is far from cooled down. Wish it would stay going till the AC has cooled the place down. Had to (carefully) drill some holes in the bottom to drain water... I believe the newer models say not to do this. That the water splashing on condenser helps cool it. But it was FULL of water and didn't seem to be doing anything but making a ton of noise and splashing all over outside. Despite the CONS I'd strongly recommend this AC to anyone.. ... show more

  • Ice cold man! Love it!
I have bought a couple other name brand AC units over the last 11 years and this unit, by far, is the best I have ever bought. I am cooling a 1500+ sf house with this unit and have one other tiny unit in a bedroom off the kitchen. I am freezing myself out of the house! I wear a jacket sometimes and it is almost 100 degrees outside! I really love the energy saver feature. We haven't been able to try out the heater on this because we don't have the right outlet. Big bummer, but it can be changed out later when we need it. Seriously, the best purchase I have made in a long time. I will warn you though, this thing is heavy as crap, but me and my big husband were able to hoist it up into the window. We had it sitting on a sturdy table in front of the window, so it wasn't so hard to do. You need a support to hold it from the outside. They sell those things for about $50, I forget what they are called, but we had made one already made out of 2 x 4's. Also, you have to unscrew a couple screws and slide the unit out of the housing just to get the instructions out of it. Total pain in the a--. We were up and running in about 30 minutes or so, but I would ask the manufacturer to never make it so you have to pull the guts out of the housing. Really, that sucked beans! I am happy so far with this lovely unit, I hope it lasts awhile because it was a little pricey. Worth every penny so far. All my other ones lasted about 3 years and they would quit cooling. ... show more
