  • Pretty simple to operate
* Was leery of this product, but pleased so far. I am not a professional, have thousands of slides from 1950's to 2000, it will be tedious but I am hopeful I can get these digitized! * Any discolored slides (film speed 400 deteriorates over time, slides turning yellow/orange) could be made into black and white images with the non-Kodak photo editing software I already have on my computer. * Replacement plastic accessories (slide carrier/pusher, for lack of better wording) are available as per call to CS at Kodak this morning. * Only complaint is that Kodak should include the 32Gb SD card with the purchase. And, users could use 2 of them, one in the scanner while one is transferring to your computer via SD card reader. * In this world of new solid state computers, be sure to back up your hard work!!! * And, buy the storage case as well, if you want to keep this device clean between usage, and keep the plastic accessories safe from breakage, too. ... show more

  • Outstanding, Money-Saving Tool for Converting Slides to Digital
Our old Kodak Carousel slide projector recently died, and the scarcity reasonably priced repairs or replacements prompted me to look for an alternative way to view our 1000+ 35mm slides. And I found it in the Kodak slide scanner. It has exceeded my expections, and almost half-way through my slide collection, I absolutely love this product. I'm an experienced and knowledgeable amateur photographer, and having worked in the graphics industry for many years, I was impressed with this unit's ability to adjust RGB and brightness settings quickly and easily. But on most slides, this thing is smart enough to automatically make the adjustment for you (which you can override, of course). The process is very quick -- if you choose not to adjust any settings, figure a couple seconds per slide. You save your scans to an SD card, then transfer over to a PC and your cloud storage as needed. Before finding this unit, I was thinking my only option was to find a commercial scanning service and spend too much money to capture these many sentimental images. But even if I never use this scanner after I'm all done with my project, it was well worth the money. (But I've already promised my brother I'll give it to him for his slides when I'm done wiht mine.) Kudos to Kodak for making the transition from conventional to digitial photography -- and doing it well. ... show more

  • The Past Revealed
I bought this scanner specifically to scan several cases of 35mm slides I had taken in the 1960s. With all the changes in photography and technology since then, I hadn’t seen these images for 50 years or more. I’m very happy with the scanner. It’s easy to use and the scanned images, while not the same quality as a new digital photo taken today, are good enough. I think the image quality and color are more dependent on the condition of the slide than the scanner. I like the ability to review and adjust each image before saving. Having a memory card lets me take the results of a scanning session and upload them to my computer for further review and editing. I wish the screen on the scanner were little bigger; but, it does the job. I have not yet tried scanning old negatives. That will be my next step. ... show more

  • Make sure you understand what you're buying
I always like to do a "right out of the box" review. First impressions frequently change, and I update reviews as I get more experience with an item. First let me say, if this thing were $100, I'd probably be a lot kinder in my review. I paid $179 and I think for what you get the price is high. This is a dirt simple scanner. Absolutely no frills, automation or anything. If you have a few negatives or slides you want to digitize, this may work for you. If you've got a lot of things to do, you may be frustrated quickly. First, this scanner is incredibly small. It almost looks like a toy. Everything here is manual. Even though it will plug into your computer via USB (it is also powered by USB), you need to have an SD card to store images. After you've scanned your picture(s), you can either remove the SD card and plug it into your computer, or transfer it from the SD card directly via USB. You have NO control over this scanner via USB. Everything is done with the buttons and the front screen (it is not a touch screen). After you digitize your slide, you can find the images in a DCIM folder on the SD card. You only have two scanning resolutions. 14M or 24M, JPEG only. That's it. To scan a negative or slide, you clip together the film adapter, shove it into the side of the scanner, and then push the film into the adapter. If you've got a very short piece of film, you'll have to use another negative to push that one out the other side. Now for the good news. I've only done a couple of scans and I will say I'm quite pleased with the quality of the scan. The image is sharp. The brightness/Hue is suspect from negatives, but I was able to correct it pretty well in photoshop. So I am pleased with that. For my use, I've got tons of old negatives and slides. Many I've already coverted with my old Minolta scanner which is long gone. But there are still some I want to redo or have somehow lost the files. Since this is a "free return" item, I will give it a good work out and see what I think. I know I'll only be doing onsy twoesy slides, so this may be ok for my needs. But it's definitely a $100 item. ... show more

  • Very versatile converting tool
I have just spent a few days viewing and digitizing a wide variety of obsolete image media - Ektachrome and Kodachrome slides, 110, 126 and 135 negatives, both black/white and color. In only a few cases was the color conversion off, but I will put most of the blame on my negatives. They are at least 35+ years old but have been kept in cool, dark storage, so who knows. There is some control over color and contrast so you may be able to drive the converted images where you want them. The film/slide trays hint of being cheap but the main unit itself seems solid and had worked good for me so far. ... show more
