I don't often write reviews - but I do depend on them to make decisions when making purchases on Amazon. I got this scanner to scan the thousands of photos that my Mom had in albums and we wanted to digitize them so everyone in the family could have a copy. I wanted high resolution scans - and I tried for a little while with the flatbed scanner I have (part of my multi-function printer) - this was very labor intensive and time-consuming. First the scan itself was slow at that resolution and then I had to bring each scan into Photoshop to cut each photo and make it a separate file. I thought there had to be a better way - and I have been thrilled with this scanner. I got 2000 photos scanned in one day (just watching football while I scanned.) I did a few and checked the quality after doing a few - and I felt that they were coming out a little dark. So I ran the calibration (which isn't mentioned in the little get started booklet), although there are directions on the calibration sheet. And now they are great. I think I've saved myself days and days of work - the pictures go through so quickly (about 6 seconds each). Also - living in California for many years I've often thought that the one thing I really don't want to lose to a fire are my photos - and getting them scanned and digitized means I can keep a copy in a safe location (and am sharing with my family so there are plenty of copies.) I very much recommend this little scanner seems quite sturdy and well built and makes quick work of your scanning jobs. And now that I've scanned all my pictures, my friends are asking to borrow it :)

it's easy to get in a rhythm, but PLEASE!!! wipe the glass with a microfiber cloth often!!! i started scanning and would pay attention to the screen, but after a while you forget to check the screen and you later discover that the pictures have a white streak! back to scanning them! very easy to use. if docked, just place the picture and it will start scanning automatically. else you have to press the scan button yourself. one thing i noticed is that if the picture has a black back like Polaroids, the sensor doesn't detect it, wish it would allow you to hit the scan button when docked if it doesn't detect a black back. other than that, worked great.

I bought this scanner based on reviews to scan family pictures. I scanned 85 pictures. I was unable to get windows 10 to recognize as per the directions included with scanner so I took the mini sd card out and plugged it into the computer to transfer the images. They all scanned fine and I was impressed with the clarity of the images(done on highest resolution). I replaced the card into the scanner and attempted to proceed scanning photos. The scanner would accept the photo and scanned it using the docking station and auto feed. The image was not saved to the sd card. I turned the unit off and charged the battery fully thinking that may have been a problem, inserted the sd card, formatted it and ended up with the same result. The only other thing I could think to try was to reset the hardware on the scanner with the reset button. Removed the card, inserted the card, set up the unit, formatted the card and tried again. Same issue only now the scanner drive that moves the picture through the docking station will not stop running after the picture is all the way through the other side. Turned the power off and the motor still ran until I removed the scanner from the docking station. I contacted the manufacturer for assistance and have not heard back from them yet. I bought this in June of 2019 and it sat in the box until I actually had time to begin this project. If you purchase this item please take it out of the box right away and use it to make sure it works. I have not inquired about returning it to Amazon because I waited so long to use it I am assuming a return may not be possible. I love the ease of use that I had while it worked and was very satisfied with the image quality of the pictures I successfully scanned. I also love the fact that the images are stored on removable media and direct connection to the computer was not necessary to use the scanner. Great idea but for whatever reason mine decided it had had enough after 85 pictures. Good luck to the rest of you. I will update if the manufacturer responds to my email. Update: With next to no help from the manufacturer I decided to purchase a class 10 Mini SD card as I was unable to determine the class of the card I had without the original packaging. They recommend at least a class 6. I am convinced that hooking the docking station to my computer to transfer images somehow damaged the original card I was using. I was unable to transfer my images through the docking station by following instructions for windows 10 so from now on I will remove the SD card and use the reader to transfer the images to my computer. I have scanned and transferred 1000 images so far and have not had any issues with the function of my scanner. The four stars is for the lack of interest by the manufacturer that I was having issues with the unit and all they could tell me to try was a different power outlet and a different usb port on my computer. I am so happy I got it to work because I looked at many scanners and this was the most reasonable with ease of use and a higher resolution than most.

This product is one of the worst products I have ever purchased. The first time I used the scanner with the docking station it worked like a dream. I removed it from the docking station to transfer the files to my computer. I had to use the card because my computer would not recognize it when I plugged it in using the usb cord. I transferred the files with no problems. When I attached it back to the docking station, it would not scan any documents. I turned it off, reseated it in the docking station and pressed a couple of buttons...it worked again. The next time I tried to use it (several days later), I had the same problem only now it is not seating in the docking station very well. I called support and they told me I had to send it back. This requires postage being paid on my part to send a defective product back. This really makes me angry that I have to pay to send a defective product back to the manufacturer when I had to pay shipping to get the product to begin with. I would beware of buying this particular brand of scanner although others may have better luck than I did.

The scan results are amazing, showing details that my fantastic phone can't capture, such as a painting's canvas weave and its layers of paint. We've had the greatest time going around the house scanning our artwork (only 8.5" wide, of course). The scan of our Persian rug shows the fibers clearly. The wood grain on my desk looks real. And of course scans of photos from separate sheets and books are great. I purchased the dock, which accepts sheets of paper easily and produces scans much more easily than a flatbed scanner does. It can produce very high DPI photo scans. Whether the scanner is docked or not, it's simple to transfer the results to my computer to enjoy or fool with.

A very handy tool to have on the go. It's very light and well constructed. It's portability is exactly what I Needed! The tiny screen on the scanning wand doesn't really give much detail. Which can mislead you into thinking that it didn't scan properly but by zooming (8x max) in you can double check the scan. When using the docking station, the markers used to align and guide the paper through doesn't leave room for much error. So take the time to be as accurate as possible, otherwise even a tiny slant it'll crease up as it feeds through. This I found was to be the only thing wrong. So fortunately the wand can be use as a stand alone scanner. This is a wonderdul product well worth it's price!

I'll start right out with this: I have an HP Scanjet G4050 flat bed scanner. I'm looking to take a trip and raid my moms photo collection for my genealogy hobby. My HP Flat bed is too big to carry on a trip, so I found this device, the VuPoint Magic Wand with the dock. To test this scanner,I grabbed a photo at random and scanned it. The output was unacceptable to say the least. I could do a better job using my cell phone. I performed the white balance calibration (hold the up button and press/release the scan button). Still the picture was waaaay to dark fuzzy and over saturated. It bugs me there there are no adjustments in software for tweaking the scan. I thought about this for awhile and came up with this idea. If doing the white balance renders a scan that is unusabley dark, then in theory darkening the white balance calibration sheet should yield a brighter scan ( it senses it needs more light to actually create white). So printed 100% grey pages on my injet and used those in lieu of a purely white paper and it worked! 50% grey blew out the scan badly. 75% grey was still blown out, 86% grey wasn't very different from plain paper. 80% grey (html #CCCCCC) seemed to yield the best results. The colors are still over saturated, but that is a real simple fix. My test picture is probably the worse possible test for this scanner, with a black background and the people wearing dark brown and black clothing. It's really hard to keep the browns from turning black. Mind you my flat bed passes this test photo perfectly. So if you are going to scan snapshots, this scanner does it better than Walgreen's. Studio Portraits are going to be a disappointment. Now with black and white photos, so far I'm COMPLETELY happy with the scan quality. It's only specific dark color portraits where (I assume) this devices lack of dynamic range really shows up and drops out black level details. Faking it by using an 80% grey calibration page helps immensely. I would like to see some manual scan adjustment settings in this thing. I would also like it to have a better focus. It's not pin sharp. So if you want to do some professional level color photo scanning, this won't work. But for personal snapshots, it's likely sufficient.

After a quick tutorial, my 83 year-old grandma (who has never used a scanner before) was able to scan over 400 old photos. This was easy for her because no computer is necessary. We left her the scanner over a few weeks and then she gave us the memory card back so we could copy onto USB drives to give to family members so we all have copies of her old photos. Easy user interface, not a lot of buttons/settings to learn. I've heard some of my friends use this product at family reunions and at retirement homes for photo scanning activities. The photo quality is not very high when on the computer but it's a 95% solution for what we needed. We had several Polaroids that were odd sizes and thicknesses, and you can simply use the wand to glide right over the top of the photo.
