I use my mirrorless camera to take images of birds so I set up the camera on a tripod and using a remote switch I can get away from the very shy birds and still take my pictures. The problem this switch solves for me is reach. It comes with an extension cable so I can get an additional 3-4 feet away from the camera and not distract the birds as much. The switch itself is simple to use, plug it in and push the button. It will also lock the button for long exposures. There's no battery to worry about and it's small enough and durable enough to stick into your pocket when not in use. A remote shutter is something that you can go without for months, but as soon as you misplace or take yours out of the ol' camera bag, you'll find yourself needing one. Having a spare on-hand is a good idea. It's a simple piece of gear that doesn't need to cost more than what it costs to put a switch in a plastic clamshell and attach it to a 3.5mm cable. This fits the bill AND comes with an extension cable. It's nice to be able to unplug the cable when storing the remote as these tend to fail when the connection gets pinched or bent or broken-off. ... show more
