Tired of eating snow cones sold as shave ice? I was. With this attachment to our Kitchen Artisan kitchen mixer, we now have a way to get realer shave ice with our own toppings instead of the locally available fare in Minnesota with way too much syrup and granular ice. Pros: Super convenient for shave ice treats. The 4 small puck molds it comes with make it easy to create the ice pucks needed for the tool to grind. Each puck is about the right size for a medium to large bowl of shave ice. Cons: It's extremely loud and makes cringy nails on chalkboard noises while it's grinding. I wear mowing ear protectors and the kids now know to put their fingers in their ears when this is working. I'm not sure if the blade will last terribly long but it appears to be fine after about 10 bowls so far. The fine blade shaves the ice a bit too chunky but nowhere as badly as the local snow cone stores (just tiny ice cubes). It just doesn't make shave ice like Jojo's shave ice on Kaua'i that's soft and melt in your mouth. There's definitely still crunchy texture to the shave ice even with tempering the ice until it's almost melting. So all in all, it's likely the closest we're gonna get at home without buying a multi thousand dollar industrial shave ice machine. Now to make a Halo halo a la Jojo's. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I love this attachment! My family and I love snow cones. I previously bought a Hawaiian manual crank ice shaver. I really do love the ice that the manual crank produces, but it is a pain in the butt to crank out enough ice for a family of 4. So I started searching for an economical, electric ice shaver. I found one for $30 that was pretty good, the only thing is the ice shavings were too thick; you have to bite the ice to crush the bits. So I returned it and couldn’t find any other electric one that met my price point and had good reviews. That’s when I started looking into the more expensive ones and came across this one. I have a KitchenAid mixer and I do love their attachments, but they are so expensive! Regardless, I opted to buy this one because for the price, it wasn’t too far off from all the other electric ice shavers and it was small enough to easily store. Let me start with the ease of use: it is extremely easy to use and set up. You freeze the ice mold that it comes with, remove the ice, turn the switch to lift the spring, load the ice, close it, and turn it on. That’s it! It comes with 2 blades, fine and coarse and 4 ice molds. I’ve read a bunch of reviews complaining that the molds break easily. I haven’t had any issues with my molds. Here are some tips that might help avoid them cracking or breaking: I don’t over fill the molds with water (there’s a fill line/ indicator), I remove them from the freezer and let them sit for a few minutes before I grab one and run it upside down under some cold water, give it a tap on the bottom and it pops right out with no issues. Also, KitchenAid has started selling replacement molds, which they apparently didn’t do before. I purchased a pack of 4 extra molds. The reason I purchased extra is cause to be honest, the molds are small. I use tiny 5 oz cups to make my snow cones and I can fill about 5 tiny cups from one ice mold and that’s not enough. Everyone always wants 2nds so I always have to shave 2 molds to get enough ice for the family. If I wanted to make 4 regular sized cups of snow cones, I’d probably have to shave all 4 ice molds. So now I can freeze 8 molds at a time. I always have a huge ziplock of ice molds that I’ve made, ready to go. So far, I really don’t have any complaints about this attachment. My only complaint would be that I wish the ice was shaved finer. Other than that, I have no other complaints. It literally shaves ice in seconds. ... show more

Don't like the fact it wastes a bit of the ice... and the cups are small. So really you only get one cone out of each... it definitely should come with more cups if they are going to be so small.

Don’t bother wasting your money on other kitschy snowcone makers. If you have a KitchenAid, get this. It’s fabulous! My daughter uses this almost daily!! It’s a great little gadget if you love snow cones.

The media could not be loaded. So easy to use. My kids love that we can do snow cones everyday at home. And you can make any flavors. You could even freeze juice and add it to the machine. The only thing I wish I could figure out it how to get fluffier shavings. It comes with a course and fine blade but I couldn’t tell the difference. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. ... show more
