  • Love the fact that the timer has 30 min adjustments, and the medium option, not just low and high
This works great, I've cooked in it 2-4 times a week for the past few months. America's Test Kitchen has this as their best slow cooker, so I picked it up... they are right! I trust this one so much that I use it overnight for things like pot-roast. I kinda wish they did the latches, but not for the "cooking"... just easy transportation and storage, to keep the lid from moving around... but that would not make it cook any better. The fact that I can dial the time to be 30 min increments is huge, and then it will display the time in minutes (down to 1 min increments) . Then it will swap to "keep warm" once time is out... Plus they have a button for "low", "med", "high", "keep warm" and a separate "power" button. So, its more control then other slow cookers tend to have, (just "on" or "low" and "high"). It also looks nicer, IMO. Side note: Lookup "Slow Cooker Mississippi PotRoast" on youtube. It's the best!!!! (Go with like 10-12 hours on low for that "fall-apart" tender) ... show more

  • Great Slow Cooker !!!
We purchased this slow cooker to replace an older model that had a non-stick surface. Pros: - Pricing - Easy to use - Ceramic pot insert - Good Size Pot - Neat cord tuck away under unit Cons: - Easy Serve Lid (Ridiculous price) We have used this Slow Cooker for several months now and it has been fantastic. I read a lot of negative reviews on this item and decided to try it anyway as it was one of the more reasonably prices ceramic pots on the market. Two, I have several KitchenAid appliances and they seem to put out a solid product. Some reviews state that the slow cooker has issues getting things hot or cooking potatoes or veggies. My use of this product has been different. I can sear and brown meat in my slow cooker on high if needed before the slow cooking process. Other reported that they are unable to cook beans after hours of cooking. I also can report my unit does just fine in this area as well. We have made multiple recipes requiring the cooker to soften beans and it has powered through these recipes without any issues. All temperature settings work on my unit as designed and as yet this product has performed admirably and produced some delicious meals. The pricing for the Easy Serve Lid was $65 more. I paid $75 for the Slow Cooker with the Standard Lid. That is almost as expensive as the Slow Cooker. Does it have motion detection and open for you?!!?!? I don't get it .. that is my only real gripe with the product. My last Slow Cooker had a retractable cord. This does not but you can still easily stow the cord under the pot. So I have to give this unit 5 stars. I has been great so far and showed no signs of wear. I will update the review if that changes. But I definitely would buy this product again. ... show more

  • Disappointed
I bought this slow cooker because it got a rave review by America's Test Kitchen. The first one I ordered had a hairline crack in the finish on the black liner, as well as 2 unglazed spots on the the rim of the black liner. I returned it only to receive another one where the lid doesn't fit. The short ends are fine. The long ends do not fit. As a result, the whole lid wobbles and is vented on the sides by nearly a quarter of an inch. Kitchenaid says this is a defect. I will give them one more try, before I completely give up on this product. I use a slow cooker every week. We haven't even got far enough in this process to see if the slow cooker actually works. We were going to put water in it to see how it heated up on low and on high before using in for food. Amazon has been great about the returns. All I want is one of the slow cookers they gave Cook's Illustrated to test. It has been a couple of months since I wrote the first part of this review. I can now say without a doubt, this is a substandard product. I have had 2 units to try one from Amazon and one from Kitchenaid. Neither unit got hot enough to cook in the times specified in the recipes. Not wanting to jump to conclusions, I searched on the internet for the principles of slow cooking. After much information I came across a way to test the heating element on the crock pots. Fill the pot 1/2 to 2/3 full with water. Set it on low and let it go for 8 hours. After that time the water temp should be 185 degrees. (After 4 hours the food should register 140 degrees to kill any bacteria.) Both cookers were around 174 degrees after 8 hours. I cooked a pot roast in the cooker from Kitchenaid. I set the time for the maximum required in the recipe, 10 hours and set the cooking temp on high. It took 10 hours for the pot roast to be tender enough, not fall apart tender, but tender enough to eat for dinner. Kitchenaid took their slow cooker back, and Amazon gave me a credit for the other. I am better off using my pressure cooker than this crockpot. Something has to have changed between America's Test Kitchen testing this model and what the company is selling today. I would be surprised if you were not disappointed in this slow cooker. ... show more

  • Love this thing
This has to rate as one of the all time best purchases I've made for my kitchen. Honestly, it opened up a whole new world of cooking for me, and there's nothing I like more than appliances that are "set it and forget it" while I go do things I'd rather do than be in the kitchen. Chili, stew, soup? You bet! Pasta sauce or pot roast? Yes sir! Plus more... but you knew all that, so on to the review. When I bought this it was the top rated slow cooker and it has not disappointed. It has large capacity and works exactly as expected, with the controls being precise and intuitive. I like the cool blue illumination when it's on, and it looks sharp on the counter since all my other appliances are stainless steel with black accents. I will say the crock is HEAVY, which makes washing a bit unnerving, not wanting to chip or break it. When new there was a bit of an electrical smell which has long since gone away, but those are the only detractors from this fine appliance. If it quit I'd seek out another one just like it. ... show more
