  • Watch for drips but otherwise great
Color: Matte Grey Style: 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Progammabl... Pattern Name: Coffee Maker
I literally was about to write a long term (5 year) review on how great my last coffee maker was when it started leaking! It still worked great and brewed good coffee but there was a hose split way up in the top of the machine where it went into the lid/drip head and isn't easy, if even possible, to fix. So I was on the hunt for a new pot and found this one. Had it for 4 months now so not a great deal of time to go on but figured I'd write a review on my current thoughts. First, I avoided buying it initially due to the fact that I look for consistent complaints on a product and the number of them when making a decision on a purchase and this one was the carafe cracking or shattering. Incidentally, after reading reviews on the last coffee maker I had, the leaking was a consistent complaint! Anyway...I had my selection down to about 3 different machines but my first pick didn't have the color I wanted available and the other 2 had issues with either the readout getting condensation in it or not working at all after a short time or the machine itself quit working too soon. Kept coming back to the KitchenAid despite the carafe concerns and decided to take the chance as I'm always super careful with them anyway since I'm already concerned about breaking the glass. So far 4 months in and alls well in that area! I really like how the reservoir is separate and can be pulled out for filling/cleaning even though I just fill it from a jug. It's easy to fill from a container and separates the coffee/filter from any chance of splash. I do wish it was a different color since we have a teal accent theme for the kitchen but the last coffee maker was black and stainless steel so not a huge deal. I do like the design-looks like their mixer which we also have- although it is bigger front to back than your average machine. The features are nice, especially the cleaning feature which I just recently used. It lets you know when it's time to run a clean cycle and it does take a while-at least 20-30 minutes for a pot not just a regular brew cycle! It has a beep when you turn it on and 3 beeps when its done brewing that you can't turn off unfortunately but it's fairly muted so not that bad. My last one was thankfully able to be turned off because it was obnoxiously loud! It uses cone paper filters (#4 I believe?) or reusable mesh which is what I use. The basket is easily removable for cleaning as well. Now for my biggest complaint/warning-the design of the lid allows for a good amount of condensation retention and nowhere for it to go so it will leak down the side or sides when you open it, be ready! I always have a dishrag in hand to shove under the lid behind the brew basket when I open it and leave it there for a few minutes opening it halfway and fully open to catch the runoff, then wipe the inside of the lid down. Personally not a deal breaker but it is annoying and I've noticed others had the same complaint. So far I'm very happy with this coffee maker, has some pluses over my last one and a couple minuses but overall I think the only thing that would make the choice of this one over the last one tough is that the last one could brew 14 cups where most only brew 12, this one included. ... show more

  • We love this coffeemaker!
Color: Matte Grey Style: 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Progammabl... Pattern Name: Coffee Maker
Kitchen Aide has a great coffee maker here. To begin with, it has a fine steel mesh basket for the coffee to be placed in prior to brewing or, you can use a paper filter. Also, the water is spread over the grounds to cover the whole basket, with a shower, instead of covering the grounds in a lot of water. This is important for better flavor. Second, the water chamber is in a convenient spot, easy to fill outside the coffee maker and easy to clean as it can be removed from the body of the machine to clean if needed.. Finally, we got the chic grey color body instead of the usual black. Competitively priced, easy to operate, timed operation, two hour hot plate...what's not to like! ... show more

  • Very neat and clean, and makes great coffee!
Color: Matte Grey Style: 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Progammabl... Pattern Name: Coffee Maker
I had a Cuisinart coffeemaker that cost about the same as this one, and got to the point where I just needed to get rid of it, it made me so mad. The carafe spilled water when you added it, and adding it was a pain because you had to pour the water into a small area. It also dribbled hot coffee when pouring it into your mug, and the machine leaked on my counter all the time. Enter the KitchenAid... First of all, this is the best carafe I have ever owned, and it isn't even close! Pouring is smooth and easy, the lip is wide and it slopes well assuring that nothing spills in the process. The handle is comfortable and balanced. Adding water is so much easier than it used to be with the detachable reservoir. This alone would make me love this model. You can also clean it easily, which just can't be done with most other models I've had. Adding grounds is done in a nice, big area--no mess. I love the included filter, but usually add my own paper filter to it. Everything comes out for easy cleaning. Programming is simple and straightforward. This isn't really a selling point for me, but it's worth mentioning. I don't understand this, but the coffee this makes tastes better somehow. It isn't just me saying this, others who have had coffee out of this since I switched agree, even with the same beans the KitchenAid just brews it better. In sum, this is the coffee maker I wish I had had all along. Five stars! ... show more

  • Good coffee, but….
Color: Onyx Black Style: 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Progammabl... Pattern Name: Coffee Maker
I like almost everything about this coffee maker. It makes really good coffee, it was easy to program, I like the removable water container. But it has to sit sideways on the counter, in order for me to see and access the controls. The space I have allocated for my coffee pot always had a unit that sat at a right angle to the counter. Yes, it’s a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless. ... show more

  • Not the Kitchen aid Coffee Maker it used to be
Color: Onyx Black Style: 12 Cup Drip Coffee Maker with Progammabl... Pattern Name: Coffee Maker
Update: The more I use it the more I hate it. Downgraded to 1 star. When pulling out the carafe it drips all over the hot plate. So much moisture stays in the lid when lifting it all the condensation drips down into the carafe. Need to find a New brand …….I have had a kitchen aid coffee maker for the last 15+ years This one is changed. I have been using it and I just cannot grow to like it. The filter was changed to the more expensive #4 cone style, which matters if you make coffee multiple times a day. The water condensation is always present everywhere all the time. The front on/off button is horrible. There is no timer to tell you how long the coffee has been sitting there. The features and setting are pretty lame and non existent. The buttons are horrible. The top lid to the water is removable so not you are constantly taking in on and off, thus having to get it seated properly each time, rather that lifting a lid and closing it. It does not make coffee the same, it is an adjustment. I typically am one of those people who have an extra coffee maker that I like up in the closet for when this one breaks……I love my coffee. I don’t like having to buy a coffee maker on the fly. But I will not be buying another one of these. It is not worth the price what so ever. Keeep looking. ... show more
