First, about the smell: I was concerned about odor after reading some of the reviews, but it seemed perfect for my space so I risked it. I don't find it to be bad at all, and I'm pretty sensitive to odors. I could definitely smell it when I opened up the box, but after assembling it I don't notice it at all unless I open the drawers or cabinet doors, and then I get a slight whiff of it. I do have it in a large room, and maybe that makes a difference. But overall it hasn't bothered me at all. Assembly was not too bad. I was a little alarmed when I saw the sheer number of pieces and bags of hardware, but everything was very well labeled. Every hardware bag has a letter and number, and every piece has a letter and number on either the underside or the back, depending on the piece. I highly recommend 2 people as there are a couple steps where you need 4 hands. The whole thing is well designed, everything lined up like it was supposed to. A power drill adjusted to a very low torque was very helpful for all the screws. I was impressed that even the back panel is held on with little screws--a step above the brads that most flat pack furniture uses. The color is a nice off-white, or light cream. I love the way this console table looks. It fits the space perfectly and has plenty of good storage. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because 1. It has a TERRIBLE chemical paint smell that is still dissipating 5 days later and 2. The hardware pull on one of the drawers consistently falls off when I pull on it. Small table made of MDF. Nice finish and nice looking. However, one of the "wood" panels broke during assembly around the pins and cams. I used wood glue to piece the sawdust panel together enough to get it assembled. They is no contact information for the company to request a replacement part. The top measurement is the the wider center part so side areas are a bit smaller and it was smaller than I had anticipated but it is a very cute and usable storage unit for a kitchenette area in a newly refinished basement.
