    • Beautiful light, but what's with the sudden, substantial price increase?

I bought this fixture just about a year ago (for $157 on Amazon), and I was just about to purchase another one, along with a 4 or 5-light version. Just a few days ago, the price for this same fixture was about $166, but I waited while deciding whether the second fixture should have 4 or 5 lights. Today I was going to order both a 3-light and a 5-light fixture; you can imagine my shock when the $166 price for the 3-light fixture from late last week was $200.20 today, about a 25% increase! Similarly, the 4-light fixture which was $219 a few days ago is now around $266. I know the prices can vary daily, but the idea of nearly $90 extra for the same products within a few days has really given me pause. I don't think this is Amazon's pricing, as the prices were identical for every source I found. I think I will wait a while and see if the dust settles. As for the light fixture itself, I felt it was a very good purchase (at least at $157 last year). The metal was substantial and nicely finished, and the glass etched shades were in perfect condition. The only issue was that I didn't realize how very small the 24 inch width would be (measured from end to end along the shades. I was replacing a 48-inch 6-bulb "Hollywood globe" style fixture that was centered over a 50" counter in the guest bathroom that had a sink at one end, a mirror the length of the counter, and a medicine cabinet on the end wall farthest from the sink. So although I made do for a while with the 3-light Kichler fixture by using bright bulbs, it really isn't enough to adequately light that much space. We eventually decided to get a second 3-light fixture (as suggested by our electrician) and move both of the small fixtures to our master bath, with has a similar setup but a longer counter with sinks at both ends, and then each sink plus the general area would be well lit. At the same time, we would replace the first 3-light, 24-inch fixture from the guest bath (as noted above) with either a 4-light, 34 inch fixture or a 5-light, 43 inch fixture of the same brand and style. We had just settled on the 5-light fixture, which I'm sure will provide plenty of light--at least until today! I really like these fixtures better than others I've seen, but as noted above, I'm rethinking things because the price increase was so sudden and substantial. We shall see. We liked the option to install the lights facing up or down. We chose to have ours facing down, mostly for ease of changing bulbs, plus we can also avoid having to deal with dead stinkbugs as we do with upward-facing lights. I can't speak about the ease of installation because we had an electrician do the work (we were intimidated by the fact that the circuit ended right where the light was supposed to go, but the electrician said it was no problem. If we proceed with our replace and move plans and do it ourselves, I may update this review. ... show more

    • Poorly crafted: bent with misaligned drilled holes and broken shades

Light arrived with broken glass shades (no padding in the boxes for the glass) and with misaligned drill holes for mounting the fixture to the wall. These misaligned holes, along with a bend to the entire fixture bar holding the lights, caused it to sit crooked on the wall. We had to redrill a new hole in the fixture's base to mount it and bend the bar as straight as we could get it. It also had bent brackets for the part that holds lightbulbs (and missing screws) so we had to bend each of those back in place and screw the part in so a lightbulb would fit. For the price of this fixture I expected way better and wish my project weren't time sensitive so I could have just returned it. We're very fortunate we had the tools needed to force this piece to somewhat work, and I've contacted Kichler requesting replacement glass shades. Rating at 2 stars because at the end of the day, after much swearing and a lot of improvising, it's up on the wall and looks alright. ... show more

Rewired entire house, so we had dozens of lights to buy. We looked everywhere, from big box stores, to large, lighting specialty businesses. It was pretty overwhelming, but we could not find lights for a few certain rooms. Found these by accident, but glad we did.
