I mounted this fan in my garage to circulate air. The fan was packaged well and the instructions to put it together were very clear. I really like the control box that is on a separate cord vs on the fan itself, this enabled the fan to be mounted up high on the wall and the control box is still easily reached. ... show more

This review is for the larger 30" fan. For those that show a hardware kit 4 bolts in a kit, these are lag bolts for concrete. Would be nice if they included some standard bolts or heavy screws, but it would be difficult for them to supply hardware for every method of mounting. As some have said, it is on the loud side but it moves a lot of air, and I am fine being cooler over some noise. Also find it strange that that the fan speed and oscillation are on different pull chains, but it is helpful as the older fans used a link that you would have to mechanically adjust to stop the movement. And this fan is mounted high up on my wall and would be impractical to get too. So I'm cool with the chain. ... show more

The fan is packed decently from the factory which is good because FEDEX always seems to destroy the box, especially if it's a heavy box like this is. It's worth pointing out that while the fan does have two separate pull chains for fan speed and oscillation, they are independently powered. The oscillation feature has a separate motor from the main fan motor. Shutting off the fan with the right side pull chain does not also shut off the oscillation. You will wind up with a non-spinning fan that is oscillating left and right which looks really weird and kind of freaked me out for a second. You need to pull the chain on the left to shut off the oscillation. Kind of a pain and not what I expect out of a $200+ fan. Minus one star for that because I expect some convenience for $200+ This fan moves all the air. To move more air than this, you need one of those floor-standing, 5-foot diameter tunnel fans on wheels that are the size of a compact car. At least this is up on the wall, out of the way. The noise: Who cares? There is a small difference in air volume and noise between the low and high speeds. Honestly, even the low speed is so loud, the sound difference b/t low and high is inconsequential. But, if you want a lot of air moving, that makes noise. It's physics. I don't understand why people buy a hurricane fan like this then complain it's loud. You want a silent, gentle breeze? Buy an $800 Dyson fan. The forward tilt range is pretty limited, so I'd advise looking at that carefully before mounting. Most folks will want to mount this as high up on the wall as possible to keep it out the way. But if mounted too high up it won't be able to tilt downward enough to cover the area right in front of the fan. The fan comes with concrete anchors. But unless you're mounting this to a concrete wall, you'll need to figure out a mounting method. The four holes on the mounting base are far too widely spaced to get into a single wall stud and I wouldn't risk two screws in the stud and hollow wall anchors for the other two holes. I'm sure someone has done it and good for them. This thing is heavy, made of metal and has a metal blade spinning at 4,500 rpm. You really want that coming down on you or someone else? What I did was through-bolt the fan base using 5/16" machine screws to a piece of 2" x 8" and then bolt the 2" x 8" to the wall stud with three 3/16"x 4" lag bolts. I've used this method for hanging various other heavy things in my garage and it works great. I've attached pictures of the fan hanging in my 100F south Texas garage. I ordered a fan and within a year it just stopped working for no apparent reason. Happens occasionally that you'll end up with one that is bad. I was well past my time to return on Amazon and didn't have a way to reach the company, so I felt I had to leave a negative review. Within a day I was contacted and this company was looking to make this right and send a new fan at no charge. I was very satisfied with the fan and how it moved air really well, so I just received a new fan today and easily put it back up and am very happy with it. I was even more satisfied with the fact that the company immediately contacted me and made things right, so I am redoing my review.
