I was very apprehensive about installing blinds - it was something I had never done before. And although these are black-out shades, the concept was the same. But, these were very easy to install because the mounting brackets attach to the shade at any position horizontally. So, as long as the brackets are level with each other and are anywhere within the width of the shade, attaching the shade is easy. The shade also serves its intended purpose of blocking all light through the window. The only thing I didn't know (and it's not a deal-breaker) is that I thought the blind rolled up and down by hand, but instead, you have to use the chain on the side.

I ordered the black (black out) fabric shade and I am very pleased with it. Measure correctly so you order the right size to cover each side of the window to keep any extra light out. Easy pull for up and down adjustments of the shade. Keeps the room pretty dark, not 100% black out on a really sunny day but still sufficient.

Overall first impressions I give it a 3.5/5. If it holds up at least 2 or 3 years I'd give it a 4 to 4.5. Delivery is fast. Easy install, two mounting brackets and the blind just clips onto those, screws and anything else needed is included. The material the blind is made out of looks good, I really like that part. Nice stitching at the bottom, looks very nice. Now the rest of the blind does look a little cheap. The housing is alright, just matte black plastic, from a few feet away looks pretty good. The cord to raise and lower the blind isn't great, reminds me of those plastic Mardi gras beads. And the gear inside the housing is also plastic so I'm a little worried how long that will last. Raising and lowering the blind is very smooth though. So for $40 and being made in China, it's an alright deal. Most blinds I've bought before end up being cheap plastic things that break eventually. If it was a little cheaper like $25 to $30 range it would be an easy recommendation. At this price, as long as it lasts a while with normal usage, I'll be pretty happy and probably would buy another.

These are nice quality blinds (36" wide) at $43 each. These have a beaded rope loop to operate blind, rather than the spring loaded type, which are a constant problem. The beaded rope loop can be switched from R to L by disassembling the blind. I installed them on double wide windows and wanted the rope pulls on the outside. Similar blinds at Home Depot with a nice fabric material were $350 to $450 each!! I asked the attendant, "Have you sold any yet?" I would highly recommend the KCO blackout blinds. Thanks, Pete Meier
