I have a dozen of these smart plugs, I use them to help me silence the energy hogs in my house and turn off lights and fans for security/cooling other electrical components during the heat of day. I recommend you label the switches in the event of moving them and so you know which device/appliance goes with the plug. I especially enjoy using the timer feature - on battery chargers/electronics that only need so much time on the charge. I have only had a few of the smart plugs stop working, for some reason or another. The only other complaint is from time to time (rarely though) the smart plug will lose connection and require to be re-paired to the app, which is identical to adding a new device, and ultimately it will fall back in to line with it's prior programming in no time. ... show more

    • Pretty good, but if using for a light get a smart bulb

These are great, however I initially bought for a floor lamp because my living room doesn’t have a ceiling light, and I don’t want to trip through a dark room to switch on the light. It was super easy to setup and the app guides you through the short process. With the app you can turn on and off and setup a schedule for it. However, shortly after I bought Kasa smart bulbs (so I could use the same app) and those are better when it comes to controlling light (they dim and change color as well as on off and scheduling). So I’m going to swap it out and use this plug for an air conditioner that isn’t automatic. My only complaint (and it’s not a big one) is that it’s designed to be “small” so it doesn’t block another socket in a wall outlet (which is a plus), but has the opposite effect if used in a power strip where all the sockets are side by side. Not really the products fault, just remember that it will take up space on a power strip. ... show more

I had a set of smart outlets that drove me crazy and would constantly lose their memory and need to be resynced and reset. I finally got fed up and replaced them with these and it's been so nice to not have to mess with them after setup. I scheduled them to turn my lamps off and on and they just work.     • Great price & App, AWFUL set-up. WARNING: HARD RESET to change network or password

Great price, expected App features, but the setup is awful. If you use the wrong password while connecting to your network, or rename the network, you have to RESET the devices. There are two different methods., soft and hard, each with different implications. WHY so difficult?!?! It took 60 minutes of searching to get to the fix and have it work. Kasa, revise the firmware or make the info readily available. As my contractor says "You pay peanuts you get monkeys!" ... show more

These do not just pair with Alexa automatically. You first open an account with Kasa, pair that with Alexa and then follow the procedure for matching the two. This means another email and password account opened with another unknown overseas company. Takes a few minutes and is not too hard, but personally I hate having more accounts with different companies, I have too many already. I bought this to turn my wax pot off and on before I arrive to the studio. I use to have to arrive 60-90 before my waxing clients to get my wax melted in time. Now I turn the wax pot on hours before I start my day. Best purchase for anyone who uses wax!

    • Works great with Shortcuts app; makes slight noise

Complaints first: one of the two devices out of the box creates a very slight humming/hissing electronic noise. Weird that only one does it, and not the other. It is not loud at all, but if you have sensitive hearing or you happen to sleep in the same room as the device, it may be irritating. These work great for what they were designed. The Kasa app itself is fairly rudimentary - you can put whatever device you plug in on a schedule, a timer, or an Away feature which will switch it on at a certain time, off at another time, for whatever days you want. For me, I used the Apple Shortcuts app so that I can access a couple more triggers. The Shortcuts app can “access” the Kasa app and turn your devices on and off, trigger an alarm, set a temperature, play a “kasa scene”, and change light color and brightness. I programmed mine to switch my charger off once it reaches a certain battery percentage. ... show more
