  • Works great for string lights. Thought it was causing a GFCI tripping problem - guess not
Style: 2-Socket Old Version
Below is my 3 star rating which I'm changing to 4 stars now that I've done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip - but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasn't the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and you're using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. I'm going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5. Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip: This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. That's the good - now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb - and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldn't turn off all the way - they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says it's waterproof but obviously isn't. I'm going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works. ... show more

  • Instructions could be clearer
Style: 1-Socket New Version
This works great now that I figured out how to connect it. It's definitely NOT intuitive. If you join the plug's WiFi too early then your phone can't connect to the app (at least my iPhone couldn't). Then when you do connect, my iPhone 14 indicated that there was no WiFi signal - that's okay, but it seemed like an error, so I tried to figure out the problem. So if the directions were better, it would be 5 stars. One other small issue is that the included "Waterproof Tips" card indicates that you should "secure the plug with provided clamp and screw" - mine didn't include those items. UPDATE: So once I figured out the first one I bought a second, thinking it would be easy to set up. Yes and no. The initial set up was easy, but then the plug didn't appear in my home. So I thought I had set it up wrong so I reset it and set it up again. Same thing - only one (the original) appeared in my home. Turns out because I also have an indoor plug in my office I have two homes, and the app put the new plug in my office "home". Once I did that I had to create another room in my real home and then I could move the plug to the right place. Maybe there is a way to have two plugs in the same room, but I didn't want to spend time on it and it works the way it is. ... show more

  • Works exactly as is should - Intuitive app
Style: Dimmer 1-Socket
I ran 2 x 100' long strings of outdoor lights (led). My 30a trailer is plugged into a 20a breaker at home. The dimmer cord connects to an outlet on the side of my trailer, then a 30' long 12 gauge extension cord runs to the first string of lights which daisy chains to the second all hung with 2 wire hanging kits that were about $25 each. Looks spectacular and you that's true because I've used that word 3 times in the last 20 years. You can slide around a circle to raise the lights with no flicker (depends on the lights) and also set 4 preset levels. It's a quality cord that looks good and so far works better than I hoped. ... show more

  • Installed it wrong but still going strong
Style: Dimmer 1-Socket
I use homebridge to connect my iot devices to homekit and wanted a smart outlet for my backyard string lights. I bought this because of the Kasa integration with homekit and it worked flawlessly right away. I did mistakenly install it with the outlet side facing up, exposed to the elements. It's been a crazy rainy summer and somehow, the several months of it being exposed to rain storms has not affected the plug at all. I also connected these to 80 feet of feit string lights (which they say aren't dimmable) and they dim just fine. ... show more

  • Easy setup, works reliably
Style: 1-Socket New Version
Easy setup. Works reliably. Note this is a 2.4Ghz WiFi product only so need to be sure you have that available for it to work. Some newer WiFi may have this disabled. My Kasa plug is installed outdoor in a GFCI outlet and is used for an above ground pool pump to schedule running the pump as well as easily turn on the pump when people are in the pool. Time will tell how long this lasts in the weather but if it fails I’ll get another. ... show more

  • Compact unit. Quick and easy setup. Plug end a bit bulky
Style: 1-Socket New Version
I got this unit to run an outdoor light which I wanted to control via an app and also be able to set a schedule. I am not a tech savvy guy, but the setup was simple and quick. It self-connected to Alexa, which was a plus. The app is easy to use and to set schedules. The only downside I found is that the plug tail is relatively short, and the plug cord is thick and can’t bend much. You will need to plug it in the bottom outlet socket, because if you plug into the top one, the thick cord will block the bottom one. I still liked it enough to get another one for another light I wanted to control. ... show more

  • Makes my life easier, placing my pool pump on a schedule
Style: 1-Socket New Version
I have a 14' above ground pool and I replaced the pump/filter with a larger pump and sand filter. I use this outlet to start/stop my pool pump a few times a day. Was great while on vacation so I didn't have to worry about someone running it for me and remembering to turn it off. So far its been working like a charm (been in service for 2 months now). I already had some other plugs by this brand so it was easy to add it to the app, and Alexa registered it too. The button on the front works too for manual operation. The right angle plug lets it plug in and the cover close without placing stress on the cord. ... show more
