  • The back folds down, and it is not heavy!
Style: Gen 1
This is my first wheel chair. I can still stand and walk, just not very long and not very far:-) I went to a local store that sells all kinds of wheel chairs but their basic manual models, the back did not fold down, and the wheels are plastic spoke, I was not impressed! Not to mention the price was higher than this Karman model and they weighed more. Since the back folds down it is easy to load in the SUV without having to lay it down. I have used it a few times in stores that don't have electric "mart carts" and it is very comfortable and easy to use. I think it's GREAT! ... show more

  • If you are looking for a light wheelchair this is it. 19 in wide.
Style: Gen 1
If I had the extra money, I would purchase another one. Very sturdy and light. I am 71 my husband is wheelchair bound. He is 6 foot and 210 lbs. I live in a small ranch home and the doorways are narrow. This chair easily fits thru doorways. Very easy to push. And the wheels allow my husband more freedom to go in and out rooms with out my help. I have a transport wheelchair for the car that I am able to lift. But, this wheelchair would fit in my car easier and is just as light. i can lift it easily. May purchase again when I can. ... show more

  • Very lightweight option for those that need a travel wheelchair
Style: Gen 1
I would not recommend this chair for daily use, it's really not designed for that purpose. However, if you need a very light, compact, easy to store chair for travel or occasional use, this is perfect. The chair is designed first and foremost for lightness, and this is reflected in it's features and design. The arms are hard plastic and not padded. The footrests are plastic and lightweight. There is a very small storage bag attached to the back of the seat. I added the optional anti-tip wheels and a Comfort Labs seat cushion, and the cushion makes it a lot more comfortable, especially if you have to be seated for a while. The chair folds up very easily and I can lift it with one hand and stow it in the back of my car. It takes up less space than my folded up rolling walker. In summary, this is a well designed chair for occasional use or traveling and I am very happy with it. ... show more

  • Good light chair, can use for transport
Style: Gen 1
Great chair, VERY lightweight. Rolls straight and with little effort. Difficult to adjust footrest length.

  • This isn’t cheap but its a good little wheelchair for the money
Style: Gen 1
I needed a light weight model that didn’t take up much space. This is 24lbs. It was the cheapest lightweight model. It went together quickly. The only problem I had was the brake handles were so tight that it was difficult to lock. My son adjusted them so that they were not so rigid. Problem solved. I did order a side pocket for my phone and drink. I would suggest a pad if you are going to spend any amount of time sitting in it. The leg attachments are removable and adjustable. It has a seatbelt. I am 5ft tall and weigh 130. It fits me perfectly. Someone taller might not fit so well. I felt it was a good solution for my situation. Its small enough to fit in any space and it has a tight turning radius. ... show more

  • I did not get what was described on Amazon
Style: Gen 1
This is a difficult review to write. Over the years I have usually got what I paid for but not for the Kaman wheelchair. In fact, it is so bad that because of safety concerns and lack of missing features given in the Amazon website for the product, I will dispose of it. This does not relate to Amazon but rather the company that created the product description writeup, Amazon is jus the middleman, so to speak, for selling what is presented. I might add, that the material used to make the wheelchair can be rated as five stars, since the metal parts are really the best quality but everything else stands as one star. The reason for one star will be explained next. I have taken the description detail features for the 980 Karman wheelchair directly from the Amazon website and compared them to the actual wheelchair features: Fixed armrest with wide cushioned arm pads: >No cushioned arm pads, just bare hard plastic. Swing in/away removable footrest, adjustable height footplates with heel loops. Back height: 19 inches. >No heel loops, just a flat plate that would allow feet to slip off the back of the plate. Seat width according to the Amazon description: 18”x16” >Seat actually is: 16”x16”. The braking mechanism is very conveniently located for the person sitting in the chair since it’s on the left-hand side and within easy reach. The LT-980 had incorporates handbrakes at the wheel of the chair so that the user could activate them if needed. (The above is presented exactly as printed in the Amazon website.) >This is referring to two braking mechanisms. The first one is supposed to be something on the left side of the chair. There is nothing there. >The second mechanism is a lever on each side of the chair just to the right and left of the front of the seat area. When they are pushed forward, they press a bar against their respective tires. They will stop the wheels from moving if continued pressure is maintained to hold then forward. >There could be a problem in getting out of the wheelchair. Since there is no hand brake and you cannot hold pressure against the tires with the levers while getting up, the wheelchair could move making getting up creating a possible dangerous situation. Another statement made in the Amazon description of the LT-980 features refers to the comfort behind the padded nylon upholstery. This refers to the seat cushion, which is just several layers of nylon attached to the sides of the chair. There is no firm (stiff) surface to sit on. The following is from the 'Guide' provided with the wheelchair (not related to Amazon website): The ‘User Guide’ that came with the Karman LT-980 is rather limited in it’s information. First, the cover shows that it applies to 13 Karman models. Page 2 of the ‘Guide’ shows the specifications of what I assume is a typical Kaman wheelchair. However, it shows a wheel lock that does not apply to the 980. On pages 3 and 4 of the ‘Guide’ are assembly instructions. Pages 5 and 6 are some accessories that can be ordered. Pages 7 and 8 are Safety Tips and maintenance recommendations. Under Safety Tips there are some tips on Footrests, but I could not understand anything written. Under the caption ‘Opening and Folding the wheelchair’ there is a tip not to place your fingers between the seat sling and the frame rail when opening or folding the wheelchair. >My LT-980 does not have a seat sling. To close my wheelchair I have to put one hand on the front of the seat and the other hand on the back of the seat and pull up. >Lots of tips on wheel locks but the 980 does not have that ability to lock wheels. And last, but not least, to get a warranty or to register the Kaman wheelchair, it is necessary for fill out an 8x11 form, supplied by Kaman, and mail it to California. They supply the address. It asks for a lot of personal data. In my case it could be difficult to do it since the form came taped to a box. P.S. Sorry but I am not able to produce photos or a video. In the wheelchair's present condition, especially with no wheel lock, I could not give it to anyone for safety reasons. I certainly did not get my money value out of this product. ... show more

  • Easy build, lightweight and manuverable
Style: Gen 1
Purchased for an elderly parent, this seems to fit the bill. It's the second wheel chair we've purchased over the last 6 years, and this one will hold up better because of the way the seat is constructed. It is connected on each side with multiple contact points. Our last one failed as it had four attachment points, and once the user sat down too hard and blew one of them out. This won't have that problem. This will fit through a standard width interior door, but it is a close fit. It is light, but part of the reason why is because the foot holders are not height adjustable. This is a good fit right now for the current user, but a longer legged person may find their knees too high. This can be remedied with a two inch pad placed on the seat. I would purchase this model again because of the easy fold and light weight. ... show more
