  • Misleading weight - actually 27.3 lbs
Color: Black
I like that is easy to get around and easy to maneuver. It’s light weight enough. I am 66 yr, female pushing my 188 lb husband around the hospital for treatments. It’s easy enough to lift out of my large suv at valet parking. However, a couple of things, the brakes are too tight, as well as the latch to swing back foot rests. I wish there were hand loops to push and pull the seat up and down. I badly bruised my knuckles the first time I dropped the seat down. One foot release is almost impossible to unlatch. I need to have a help which is annoying. Last and most misleading is the total weight. Today they put my husband in the scale and his weight was higher than normal even after the subtracted the 24 lbs. I thought the chair weighed. Maybe the wheelchair alone weighs 24lb. But it comes in at 27.3 lbs. with the foot attachments. so if you think it’s 24 lb chair, it is not. Be aware. It needs adjustments to be better for my needs. ... show more

  • Why did I wait so long?
Color: Black
I've had my mom in the free medicare 45lb wheelchair for five years. Didn't even think about looking to see if they were sold on Amazon. Well worth paying for and I'm glad I picked Karman. Super light weight and much smoother ride for my mom. Lifter her up the front step today for the first time in her new ride and almost lifted too much! I did have to adjust the brakes as they were way too close to the wheels to push into lock position. It was a pain to do as this brake isn't attached to the chair like most wheelchairs in YouTube videos, but it's definitely something you can figure out yourself. Wish Amazon sold the red version. It's 60 bucks more on 800wheelchair website if you're interested. ... show more

  • Works for me and met all my expectations.
Color: Black
This wheelchair works so well for me. It is great in the house and easy for me to take when I need to be in the car, as it is easy for someone to fold and lift in the back of the SUV. I also ordered a pillow if I have to sit in it for an extended time.

  • I did not get what was described on Amazon
Color: Black
This is a difficult review to write. Over the years I have usually got what I paid for but not for the Kaman wheelchair. In fact, it is so bad that because of safety concerns and lack of missing features given in the Amazon website for the product, I will dispose of it. This does not relate to Amazon but rather the company that created the product description writeup, Amazon is jus the middleman, so to speak, for selling what is presented. I might add, that the material used to make the wheelchair can be rated as five stars, since the metal parts are really the best quality but everything else stands as one star. The reason for one star will be explained next. I have taken the description detail features for the 980 Karman wheelchair directly from the Amazon website and compared them to the actual wheelchair features: Fixed armrest with wide cushioned arm pads: >No cushioned arm pads, just bare hard plastic. Swing in/away removable footrest, adjustable height footplates with heel loops. Back height: 19 inches. >No heel loops, just a flat plate that would allow feet to slip off the back of the plate. Seat width according to the Amazon description: 18”x16” >Seat actually is: 16”x16”. The braking mechanism is very conveniently located for the person sitting in the chair since it’s on the left-hand side and within easy reach. The LT-980 had incorporates handbrakes at the wheel of the chair so that the user could activate them if needed. (The above is presented exactly as printed in the Amazon website.) >This is referring to two braking mechanisms. The first one is supposed to be something on the left side of the chair. There is nothing there. >The second mechanism is a lever on each side of the chair just to the right and left of the front of the seat area. When they are pushed forward, they press a bar against their respective tires. They will stop the wheels from moving if continued pressure is maintained to hold then forward. >There could be a problem in getting out of the wheelchair. Since there is no hand brake and you cannot hold pressure against the tires with the levers while getting up, the wheelchair could move making getting up creating a possible dangerous situation. Another statement made in the Amazon description of the LT-980 features refers to the comfort behind the padded nylon upholstery. This refers to the seat cushion, which is just several layers of nylon attached to the sides of the chair. There is no firm (stiff) surface to sit on. The following is from the 'Guide' provided with the wheelchair (not related to Amazon website): The ‘User Guide’ that came with the Karman LT-980 is rather limited in it’s information. First, the cover shows that it applies to 13 Karman models. Page 2 of the ‘Guide’ shows the specifications of what I assume is a typical Kaman wheelchair. However, it shows a wheel lock that does not apply to the 980. On pages 3 and 4 of the ‘Guide’ are assembly instructions. Pages 5 and 6 are some accessories that can be ordered. Pages 7 and 8 are Safety Tips and maintenance recommendations. Under Safety Tips there are some tips on Footrests, but I could not understand anything written. Under the caption ‘Opening and Folding the wheelchair’ there is a tip not to place your fingers between the seat sling and the frame rail when opening or folding the wheelchair. >My LT-980 does not have a seat sling. To close my wheelchair I have to put one hand on the front of the seat and the other hand on the back of the seat and pull up. >Lots of tips on wheel locks but the 980 does not have that ability to lock wheels. And last, but not least, to get a warranty or to register the Kaman wheelchair, it is necessary for fill out an 8x11 form, supplied by Kaman, and mail it to California. They supply the address. It asks for a lot of personal data. In my case it could be difficult to do it since the form came taped to a box. P.S. Sorry but I am not able to produce photos or a video. In the wheelchair's present condition, especially with no wheel lock, I could not give it to anyone for safety reasons. I certainly did not get my money value out of this product. ... show more

  • good light weight choice
Color: Black
I needed a wheelchair to get my mother to doctor appointments and I needed it fast so I only looked over ones that I could get the next day. There were only a few options so I decided I wanted this type that you could self-roll using your hands instead of just being pushed. This one was the lightest available without breaking the bank so I went with it. It arrived the next day and within a few minutes we were testing it out. It is light weight and fits in the back of a rav4 even with the foot things on. It also fits easily in the trunk of my sedan (similar to an accord or camry's size). My mother is ~5'7", ~125lbs so she fits easily. I am 6' and ~165lbs and I fit decently - my legs feel a little long for it but it would accommodate me for transports. It is light weight but it feels reasonably sturdy. The handles do flex a little when pushing it so that is the trade-off for being so light weight. My mother said it is comfortable to sit in and she was comfortable sitting in it around the house. I am getting a chair pad for it but not really necessary and okay without it. I do not have any prior experience with wheelchairs but I am happy with this fast-purchase and feel I made the right choice for my particular needs. ... show more

  • 9 years, so far so good
Color: Black
Negative first: the webbing anchors on the foot rests broke in the first year or two. Positives: just great. Easy to fold, lightweight. When we travel with it - like as we're about to step into a plane, I fold it up, lock the wheels and wrap a bungee around it to hold it all together (especially the swing away for rests). Even after rough handling, it all makes it back up to us on the jetway when we deboard, even if a footrest has been dislodged. Anyway, saw that we bought it 9 years ago and still use it occasionally, so had to write the review. Nice product! Oh, and ours has black wheels which can leave (removable) Martha on our wood floors, I'm betting these new light blue ones wouldn't.... ... show more
