  • great investment for a little extra HP and gas mileage
I installed the K&N short ram intake on my 2006 Honda Civic Si. The included instructions for removal of the old air intake box and installation of new intake were awesome. Kudos to K&N for making VERY EASY step-by-step instructions with pictures! Anyone with absolutely no mechanical knowledge should find this installation a cinch! I was able to remove the old and install the new in about 2.5 hours. (I'm proud to say that with the exception of my husband loosening some rather tight bolts I couldn't get, I was able to install this completely by myself...and I'm a woman!) :) Anyway, this intake definitely gave a LITTLE boost to HP, as well as maybe 2-4 mpg extra. (I honestly haven't been able to properly check the MPG since installing this. I've ran my car a little harder than normal due to the increase in performance.) There is also a noticeable deeper throaty sound produced by the intake in lower RPM's and becomes more apparent when the V-Tech kicks in around 5700 RPM. Although the $200+ for this intake seems a bit high, it's on the cheeper end of mods that can be done to increase performance. So, with that being said, I feel this was a good investment for adding a little more HP, MPG, and a beefier/throatier sound to the engine. ... show more

  • Best intake on the market! Glad I went with k&n
Warning! Vtec will be on steroids after you install this! this intake made a huge difference in power. You can hear it sucking in air and when it hits 6k it screams. The install was pretty easy. It’s easier if you have some one help you install it. If I had to do it again I wouldn’t change a thing. Update: Its been about three months intake still perfectly fine. No issues, I did recently replace shifter cable bushings so i had to remove the intake, which was extremely easy. After putting everything back on I got a check engine light I just reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery. Great intake worth the money for sure... ... show more

  • Who thought a tube and a filter could make you smile?
Makes quite a difference when VTEC kicks in yo...in all seriousness, post install test drive (windows down) I thought I might have made a mistake. (Jeebus, this thing is LOUD when the cam profile shifts!) Keep in mind, it sounds glorious - from 6k to 8k rpm in 3rd going to 4th the feeling is simply visceral. The car sounds rabid, possessed; she's just...angry...very, VERY ANGRY. Having said that (and back to my 'mistake' comment), my initial thoughts were that this might be a little too much cowbell for this mid-thirties dad living in suburbia. (I'm pleased to report those feelings subsided after a day or two...) As for performance improvement, it's hard to say; the "butt-dyno" suggests the car is a little quicker. I do think throttle response has improved, as she seems to rev a little more freely. (I'll have to wait and see what happens when Summer rolls around again to see if heat soak is an issue.) I have not seen an appreciable difference in fuel economy. Installation was straight forward and took me about an hour to complete. ... show more

  • K&N Typhoon and VTEC = BWAAAAHHH!!!
I just installed this on my 2009 Civic Si that had only one prior modification (GReddy Ti-C 60mm cat-back exhaust). On low RPMs, the K20Z3 doesn't sound different with the exception of the GReddy exhaust's amplification. It sounds the same. However, accelerating at 4000RPM, the engine bay emits a growling and blowing sound like it's boosted except the engine is still N/A. When VTEC kicks in at 5800RPM, the sound is a lower pitch but definitely louder. When quickly changing gears at redline, the intake emits a deep sucking sound. However, at lower cruising RPMs like at 2000-2500, the Si seems to have slightly less torque and acceleration; this intake benefits the K20Z3's marginal performance at high engine speeds. Overall, after I installed the intake and test-drive the Si, it sounded much more distinguished from the exhaust. 2018 UPDATE: It's great if you don't feel like disassembling your front end to install a HB or Skunk2 cold air intake AND the expensive tuning required to extract the most horsepower from the Si engine. It's convenient for those who live in climates that include pouring rain. It's also convenient if you want some additional upgrade like the Hondata reflash that requires an intake. It's especially convenient if you don't want to spend any more money on any other engine mods because it's just plug n play. The only headache is reinstalling it perfectly aligned to the throttle body. The intake metal build is heavy and cumbersome. It really is an awkward design; the intake tube is not cut to be square with the stock throttle body. Even though it retains use of the stock fresh air tube + resonator snorkel system and is isolated from the rest of the engine bay, it is still basically a short ram intake that can heat soak under the hood in the summer time. The HP gain is only seen at top end/during VTEC whereas the mentioned CAIs increase power from mid-range to redline. Overall, it's the most well-rounded intake for the Civic Si; it serves its purpose in many ways from convenience to sound. The best, most convenient, and one-time option for an 8thgen Si intake is to install the Skunk2 CAI with an Injen Hydroshield and Hondata reflash. You order everything at once and install it all at once. Done. Everything works together too. ... show more

  • Every Si needs one!!!
The install was relatively easy and the instructions were detailed enough that I could basically follow them step by step without any issues. I put this intake on a 2011 SI and I must say that it sounds amazing! It has a really nice deep sound through the rev range but when you hit VTEC, you really hear it! The sound is wonderful and slightly addictive. Slightly better throttle response is noticable. I can actually feel a slight power increase and it seems to pull harder. (not anything extreme but def something extra) Well worth the money and I highly recommend this to any SI owner! ... show more
