  • Money Well Spent
Style: Roto-Molded
Installed on an 06 Tacoma TRD Sport, V6. Noticeable difference in engine performance. Some of the other reviews are very misleading. This does not make your engine loud. When the truck downshifts, or you are accelerating really hard, you will hear the engine running slightly harder, but unless you drive around with the radio off, you will not notice this with daily driving. Installation was easy and the instructions were very clear, as long as you refer to BOTH the step by step directions AND the exploded view (which shows you which bolts to use). Came with everything needed to maintain all of the factory hookups including the mass air flow sensor. Keep in mind, you are opening up your air intake, not installing a new camshaft or larger pistons, so don't expect unrealistic performance gains. With that said, you will notice a definite boost in off-the-line power, as well as top end pull (or when towing). K&N includes Dyno sheets from an 05 Tacoma V6 indicating an approx boost of 10hp, and 10 ft/lbs of torque, which I would say feels accurate. Others have also noted that "the Tacoma has a factory cold air intake already" so this upgrade will not do anything. While this is true, keep in mind that the factor air enters a smaller box, then flows down the velocity tube where it goes through the air filter (that disrupts that velocity) and then makes a couple of sharp turns before getting to the throttle body. The KN up grade starts with a much larger box and filter surface area, then the air goes down the velocity tube almost straight into the throttle body with no disruption to the air speed. This is where the extra power and change in sound comes from; the engine getting as much undisturbed air as it needs without have to gasp for it. Very well designed product and a great bolt-on engine upgrade. ... show more

  • Good bolt on part for good price
Style: Roto-Molded
This was a very nice bolt on power up for my Tacoma. A lot of reviews debate the reality of the power change but I can say without a doubt I have a noticeable difference. I drive in 4x4 in deep sand multiple times weekly and I now for sure this helps me power through even in first gear. There are also mixed reviews about the noise. It is louder, the intake makes my engines sound like its a sport truck. Personally I like it. However you really have to be stepping on the gas to hear a big difference (which I do more often just to hear it) but otherwise in normal driving circumstances the noise difference is minimal. My truck is a manual transmission which helps me control the noise more since it doesn't down shift on its own on steep grades or hard accelerations. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the mpg change, but I'm hoping for the best. All in all, good part, instructions were easy to follow, it's much lighter than stock intake and much more space efficient. Install took about 70min. I did have about 6 in extra rubber molding that lines the heat shield, I cut it off and used it where the intake tube goes through the heat shield, which took away with a slight rattle on start up. ... show more

  • More Power & Crisp Response.
Style: Roto-Molded
The only reason I did not give this product the five stars is that I haven't had a noticeable increase in my mileage (only a slight one); and I've been keeping track of my mileage pretty closely for the few months prior to installing the K&N and since. That could be because I haven't really done much longer distance easier driving lately, mostly back and fourth to work. But there are a lot of positives for this product. Specs on my truck to start: I have a 2009 Tacoma V6 (it did fit perfectly despite the amazon tool telling me that it would not), with the six speed manual transmission, 4x4 TRD, and a camper shell. - There was a very nice increase in the felt power when I throttle up. - The sound my truck makes is very nice, but not nearly as loud as I was worried it would be. In fact it's not noticeable until I push a little extra on the throttle. Which is nice for longer journeys, there isn't a constant loud drone. - The responsiveness of my truck also has improved, the truck had 'pep' before but now it's real nice! - It was really easy to install with the help of a friend and really 'opened' up the space under the hood of my truck. Took us a little less time then suggested. All in all, a great product! Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a mid-"price-range" item to increase the performance of their Tacoma. I'm looking forward to putting an aftermarket exhaust on the truck next. ... show more

  • Awesome intake.
Style: Roto-Molded
The performance was noticeably different as soon as I had it installed. Took me a hr to install but I did it right after work and in the middle of the night. Only had a head lamp on. This was a b-day present from my wife and was really excited and surprised that my wife even thought of something like this for me, guess lucky me. Any ways had it on for two weeks now and no complaints. Performance is a lot better than stock (more response) and better gas mileage to. I have over size tires on my Tacoma and with stock intake I think I got 18mpg on hwy, but now I get 20-21mpg plus the power up grade. Came in the mail no problems, arrived on time. Was simple to install just follow the instructions. Did notice the engine is a lot louder now at high rpm's, but I don't mind. Makes it sound like a beast, and I notice a lot more heads turning. Overall great product, and no problems yet. I will update if anything happens. ... show more

  • HOLY CRAP.....in a good way.
Style: Roto-Molded
Wow, the other comments on here don't touch on the awesomeness of this product. The stock air intake system on the Toyota Tacome 4.0 is extremely restricting and takes up a ton of space under the hood. The K&N system has simple instructions and is easy to install. The fun part comes after you take it out after the install and put some throttle into it. At low rpms you will barely know it is there other than the improved fuel economy but put the peddle down and you will be waiting for the engine to jump out of the hood. The performance is awesome as is the quality of everything K&N does (third cold air kit so far) I am a truck owner and I love the sound, if I wanted a quiet vehicle I would buy a hybrid. My only problem now is that I can't wait to put the new exhaust system on. ... show more
