Installation was as usual for a K&N product; plenty of hardware but the instructions don't specify exactly which screw goes where. As other reviews state the weatherstripping is a task. Performance is excellent. You can definitely feel a substantial horsepower bump. Audible supercharger whine is a positive increase over stock but you still have to listen for it over the sound of the exhaust. Cruising fuel economy went up from a struggle for 17 to an easily obtainable 21mpg. I keep the tires at 35psi filled with nitrogen. ... show more

shipped quick, installed in about 3 hours with my buddy very self explanatory if your the throw the directions away kind of guy. other wise directions are very easy to read and complete. this intake gave my truck so much more voice up front i love pushing down on the pedal and hearing the nice low rumble this intake added. when I'm not trying to drive like I'm on roids it gives my truck a good 2 extra miles to the gallon so I'm getting an extra 30 miles every time i fill up. nothing i can say about this is bad!! Put this on my 2001 Tahoe a couple months ago, and i couldn't be happier with the results. It was very easy to install, i didn't have to cut anything or make any modifications besides drilling a small hole in plastic for the heat shield, no cutting the fan shroud or anything. Unlike what some people say on here, you DO get better MPG, the factor that makes them think its worse is that they press on the gas more to hear the great sound the intake kit gives your engine, which i admit is a hard thing not to do. installation took about 2 hours for me ONLY because the only drill i had was battery powered and i had to recharge it for about 45 minutes and i just took my time and read the instructions carefully. I recently added the Magnaflow 15666 Stainless Steel 3" Cat-Back Exhaust System and it added power of its own, but also adds to the intake's power because the air can leave the engine almost as fast as it comes in. Headers would make the airflow at maximum, but thats a different story. I have K&N on all 3 of my cars and I've put the K&N drop in filters in my parent's cars and have had nothing but great results. ... show more

I had a K&N CAI on my 2005 GTO 6.0L and it seemed to make a great difference in the SOTP Dyno, so I decided to get one for my 2000 Tahoe 5.3L. I installed this bad boy along with an aggressive tune from my Hypertech 3200 Max Energy programmer. I love the high pitched squeal of air getting sucked in when shifting gears, sounds similar to a turbo spooling, as well as the deep rush of air while accelerating hard. I drove it for a few days with just the CAI and the tune and I could tell a big difference in acceleration from the jump and at high speeds. I just had dual exhaust installed and now the Tahoe feels like a brand new car. If you're going to open up the engine, it's a best to open it all the way, CAI to take in as much air as possible, cut the stock exhaust off and put some high flow mufflers, then have it tuned to take advantage of opening up the engine. Comes with everything needed to install. The clamps are cheap and the hoses are just barely long enough to work. I'm a very experienced mechanic and the directions "dumbed down with pictures" are not very good. They direct you to install items "as shown" but really don't show you what you need to see. The K&N hose that attaches to the MAF sensor is shiny looks good but is very slick. Its a little tricky to get the clamp on properly without it slipping off.I'm going to swap the clamps and hoses out for better quality. Took about an hour to install which included cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor. Start up was good and I could feel the extra power and torque. Five stars if the clamps were a better grade. If I do this again I would do a couple of things differently. They have you install the MAF sensor into the new housing first. I would do this later on in the install. While putting the brackets, the grommet, and the weather strip on you are having to be very careful of the MAF sensor. No need to have it on there at that point. I would also install the K&N hose onto the MAF sensor and then slide the pipe into it rather than onto the pipe. Overall another great K&N product. ... show more
