View larger. Measurable improved performance. View larger. Quick and easy installation. View larger. How High-Flow Technology Works How does the K&N 57-3023-1 increase horsepower? By eliminating airflow obstruction in your engine. Restriction of air flow between an air filter and an engine robs even the most powerful engine of horsepower. K&N air intake kits virtually eliminate air path restriction by replacing the standard air filter and the entire air path to the engine. The aerodynamically engineered conduit that makes up the 57-3023-1 drives a massive amount of air into an engine, which translates into power. This conduit begins with an oversized conical high-flow air filter. This larger filter can fit into the engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points because the K&N 57-3023-1 replaces your stock intake tube, and air box. This provides more airflow at lower restriction than a standard filter, limited by the size of the factory air box. The oversize air filter also captures and holds more dirt, increasing the service life before a cleaning is required (up to 100,000 miles). The filter is also isolated from high engine temperature by a heat shield designed to lower the temperature of the air entering the engine, which increases horsepower. The filter attaches to a rotationally molded tube made from nonmetallic interlaced high density polyethylene (HDPE). This allows for precision shaping of the tube to reduce turbulence and accelerate airflow into the engine. This is why some K&N tubes have unique shapes or indentations that are specifically engineered for each engine configuration. Finally, the tube is connected to the engine with adapters made from high strength materials such as silicon and reinforced nylon and ensures long life. Put all this together and you have the best high-flow intake system available today. Street Legal Many K&N intake systems are street legal in all 50 states and include a California Air Resource Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO) number that ensures the kit has been tested to comply with emissions standards. EO numbers apply to the kit as well as the year, make and model it is being installed on. Systems with no EO number are street legal in most states but may not be used on emissions controlled vehicles in the state of California or other states adopting California emission standards. Consult K&N's website to search by part to see which cold air intakes are CARB exempt for which vehicles. • 77-3023KP for '01 Sliverado 1500HD 4X4, 6.0L V8.
Style: Metal
I purchased this kit for my truck to compliment the new dual 40 series Flowmasters that I had installed two weeks prior. As such I cannot testify to how well the product would work alone. However, I am inclined to say that the performance enhancement would be significant since I can feel a difference even over the changes provided by my dual exhaust. This 77 series 3023KP is designated for GM's 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 liter V8 engines typically found in Silverados, Sierras, Yukons and Suburbans. As noted above, my truck is equiped with the 6.0 and the after market exhaust is a true dual exahust, front to back with no H pipe, Y pipe or any other type of crossover. I mention this because the results may vary if you have the type of dual exhaust which is really only a single muffler with a single entry and dual exits. I am not going to tell you that this thing will give you so much more seat-of-the-pants acceleration. Even if it does provide the advertised horsepower gains of 14+HP, consider that it is being added to an engine that already makes over 300HP and pushes a pretty heavy truck. Sure I can smoke the tires but I was able to do that when stock. In fact, I got pulled over once for accidentally barking the wheels when accelerating out of a wet driveway. So what is the point you say? Why do I rate this product at 5 stars when it hasn't turned my truck into a Nascar racer? The answer is simple. It does what it says it does which is make my engine run better, with better throttle response and added efficiency all of which translate to better acceleration and overall driveability. I immedeately noticed that my engine seems far less labored under normal driving conditions. The transmission shifts alot smoother making the overall ride more comfortable. Passing on the highway is significantlly easier due to increased throttle response. I wouldn't be surprised if I see an increase in my MPG and I will report on that once I can guage it. One of my favorite attributes of the system (and one that lets me know it is working) is how after I shut off my engine, the last thing that I hear is the kit taking a last gulp of air and sending it down that polished tube. And speaking of the polished tube, it doesn't hurt that the unit looks impressive and really enhances the look of the engine. A few notes on istallation. Anyone handy with tools and familiar with basic engine components can install this unit easily. Even with what little mechanics experience that I have, I was able to put this thing together and in the truck in just over an hour. Someone with experience with this sort of add-on could do it much quicker but I felt the need to check things twice just to make sure that I was doing everything correctly. Also, the first thing that I did when opening the box was to go through the parts list and contents and make sure that everything was there. The time I took to do this is factored into my stated 1+ hour install time. The hardest part of the process was installing the supplied edge trim onto the heat shield. It took alot of effort to follow the edges of the shield with the heavy duty gasket. Although in the instructions, this step comes after you are directed to attatch your stock mass air meter to the shield, I would recomend that you add the edge trim first. You will be wresteling the unit around alot and it would really bite if you damaged your air meter in the process. Also, in the instructions for this application there is a typo in the parts diagram. Part number 07027, 6mm rubber mounting studs is item "O" on the part list but is labled "D" on the diagram. This should be pretty obvious since the performance intake tube is already labled "D". Other than this, everything else was pretty straight forward. This system is great and I recommend it to anyone who wishes to spice up the performance of their truck or SUV. My truck is as fun to drive now as it was the day that I got it. I have seen this unit selling for a few bucks less on other sites. However, the little bit extra that I paid got me the peace of mind that I only have when ordering from Amazon.com. I have trusted Amazon since I was in college and would order my books from them. I would rather spend a bit more and KNOW that I am getting great service and peace of mind. I have seen one too many reviews on those other sites where customers state problems such as missing or incorrect parts! I can testify with no amount of exagerration that in nearly six years of ordering from Amazon.com I have NEVER had a single problem with my orders. ... show more

  • Worth it
Style: Metal
I bought this for a 2002 Chevy 1500hd 6.0 in California. I opted for the metal one due to I just like the look more. Took less than an hour to install, and while it’s not going to the races any time soon there was a noticeable change in power. I tend to grandpa the truck around under 2k rpm and it made those speeds quicker to get up to speed, and when needing to pass, flooring it has definitely improved. Definitely feel like the cost is justified. ... show more

  • Huge Upgrade to my Stock System
Style: Metal
I noticed immediate increase in the performance of my 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71. I was getting about 14-16 mpg and I am now getting 18-19 on highway. More than that is the horsepower! you can definitely feel the power. I was a little worried about noise coming from the engine compartment as I have a very stock set up and want to keep it that way...No need to worry there. It is just as quiet as the stock intake until you punch it and then you hear a beautiful hum from the air being pulled into the engine that sounds mean... I love it and am so glad I spent the money on it. With gas prices continuing to increase I am always looking to add performance products. Next on the list will be an on-board programmer. I will try and put the truck on my cousins dyno and post the results as well as shoot a video for you to see and hear the intake. ... show more

  • K&N is the best!
Style: 50 State Legal
Put this on my 2001 Tahoe a couple months ago, and i couldn't be happier with the results. It was very easy to install, i didn't have to cut anything or make any modifications besides drilling a small hole in plastic for the heat shield, no cutting the fan shroud or anything. Unlike what some people say on here, you DO get better MPG, the factor that makes them think its worse is that they press on the gas more to hear the great sound the intake kit gives your engine, which i admit is a hard thing not to do. installation took about 2 hours for me ONLY because the only drill i had was battery powered and i had to recharge it for about 45 minutes and i just took my time and read the instructions carefully. I recently added the Magnaflow 15666 Stainless Steel 3" Cat-Back Exhaust System and it added power of its own, but also adds to the intake's power because the air can leave the engine almost as fast as it comes in. Headers would make the airflow at maximum, but thats a different story. I have K&N on all 3 of my cars and I've put the K&N drop in filters in my parent's cars and have had nothing but great results. ... show more

  • Great Upgrade for 2000 Tahoe 5.3L (New Body)
Style: 50 State Legal
I had a K&N CAI on my 2005 GTO 6.0L and it seemed to make a great difference in the SOTP Dyno, so I decided to get one for my 2000 Tahoe 5.3L. I installed this bad boy along with an aggressive tune from my Hypertech 3200 Max Energy programmer. I love the high pitched squeal of air getting sucked in when shifting gears, sounds similar to a turbo spooling, as well as the deep rush of air while accelerating hard. I drove it for a few days with just the CAI and the tune and I could tell a big difference in acceleration from the jump and at high speeds. I just had dual exhaust installed and now the Tahoe feels like a brand new car. If you're going to open up the engine, it's a best to open it all the way, CAI to take in as much air as possible, cut the stock exhaust off and put some high flow mufflers, then have it tuned to take advantage of opening up the engine. Great add on! I recommend this to anyone looking for some extra boost. ... show more

  • EASY INSTALL / FITS PERFECTLY / GOOD INSTRUCTIONS
Style: Metal
The products were packaged very well. Instructions are very good. Photos could be a bit better. However the job was very easy and fit like a glove. The engine should have more horse power and torque. It sounds a bit louder when I step down on the gas peddle otherwise it’s still quiet. I pull a trailer so I needed more HP. This upgrade should do it. 5.3L Chev Suburban 03 ... show more
