  • Beyond awesome!
Color: Red
Installed on my Miata in roughly one hour. I don't have access to a dyno so I can't substantiate hp gains, but it certainly feels faster and more responsive in higher rpms! Absolutely beautiful, throaty engine sound at high load, no added noise (compared to stock) at cruise. Gas mileage seems to have improved slightly as well. Warning: Does not whistle very loudly until high rpms (~4k-6.5k)... That being said, build quality in superb and feels very solid. PROS -Basically a plug and play experience, perfect fit on '99 Miata -Instructions were legible and logical -Engine response feels more "alive" -Engine noise at cruise is unaffected -Well built, solid feeling components CONS -Kinda pricey if you just want to improve intake airflow; you can just buy aftermarket filter equivalent -Nothing else, really Overall, would buy again, and definitely recommend to any car enthusiast. ... show more

  • Adds Throaty Growl to 1.8L MX-5, great quality build.
Color: Red
I've had my Typhoon installed for about 3 months in my 1999 MX-5. Installation was simple; anyone with a lick of under-the-hood experience should able to easily remove the stock intake and install this within an hour or less. Included instructions are specific to the vehicle, and make it nearly fool-proof. While the price is high and the performance gains minimal at best, it does offer a beautiful accented piece of hardware in the engine bay. With Dyno tests (in perfect conditions) only delivering 2-3 HP gains, this is definitely not going to add much "get up and go," but does add a bit of bravado to the MX-5. 2nd-5th gear sound amazing during quick acceleration, giving the Miata a fair amount more growl to her engine sound. Doesn't sound like a cheap coffee can pulling in air like some of these cheaper, lesser-made intakes on the market. I could claim that I feel a tad bit more pull when hitting the Miata's power curve, but acceleration speeds are still similar to stock. If you're looking for a deeper, sportier sound for an already near-perfect car, this is a fantastic piece to add. If you want to noticeably improve your track times, this will do very little on its own. ... show more

  • Works well. looks great
Color: Red
Was easy to put on and works really well. Love the deep tone when on the gas. Not sure if there are any power gains. Beautiful, glossy finish looks amazing. Mine had a small dent in the elbow, a out of round tube and another flaw under the glossy paint. Clearly it was dropped and the defect was left there before finishing and they let it pass and go out the door. Unacceptable, but it wasn't worth the time and hassle to send it back as I already had the original off the car and had to finish the job. Expensive as compared to other brands that do the same function. ... show more

  • Great intake for my 2004 Mazda Miata LS
Color: Red
Addressing the elephant(s) in the room, there are tons of arguments regarding the placement of the filter itself on this set up, heat soak, and long tube versus short tube intakes. All that stuff aside, I’m building a car that’s fun to drive, and this intake adds to my car’s fun factor. The sound is quite apparent, and I’ll be honest and say it excites the sixteen year old in me that just loved loud(er) cars. In regard to the butt dyno, I felt like the acceleration has improved, but it’s also worth noting I cleaned my MAF at the same time I did this install. Speaking of install, I somehow managed to do everything beginning to end in half an hour, and given that I’m one of the least mechanically inclined people you’ll ever meet, I’m confident that most people can manage this install with only basic tools. I’ve had a number of K&N products for a number of my different cars over the years and I’ve yet to be disappointed. ... show more

  • AMAZING TRANSFORAMTION!
Color: Red
This is my 4th Miata and I've done cold air intakes before, but this time I decided to spend the extra dollars and go with the best, K &N. Boy am I glad I did! This kit is absolutely fantastic. EVERYTHING you need, awesome, step by step directions and it fits my 2001 Limited Edition like a glove. The transformation is amazing on several fronts. 1st is the sound. What a difference! It really growls under acceleration and it just makes me smile, which is what a Miata is all about. The 2nd is the difference it makes under the hood. When I pop the hood to show it off, people just say wow. The red is not just red, it's a VERY, VERY shiny metallic red and is gorgeous. Don't know about the added 3HP but I tell myself I'm getting it and it makes me feel good. I couldn't be happier...THANKS K & N! ... show more

  • Nice sound
Color: Red
To be honest I just wanted the sound. I have this on a stock motor 99 Miata 10AE. At idle and driving normal/restrained, its quiet as stock. Accelerate with more pace and beautiful intake noises begin. The more throttle input (with load), the more beautiful the sound becomes (and increased volume). Love to drive through tunnels, drop a couple of gears and hear it sing! Do not recommend if flying stealth is more your thing. Quality is top notch and so was the ease of installation. Performance? If measured in smiles, then I give 5 smiles! ... show more

  • There are better things to do with your money
Color: Red
This item is not worth the price if you're installing it on a NA or NB Miata. The HP gain is minimal and you'll never feel the difference on a stock vehicle. The additional growl from the filter may make you think it's more powerful but don't expect to feel any difference. If you want it for looks, okay, I get it. Truth is it's not going to make your car noticeably faster. You are basically buying a $45 K&N washable air filter and then paying $170 for an nicely painted aluminum tube, a couple of rubber connectors, 5 large hose clamps, and a bracket. Just buy the appropriate filter, remove your stock air box, and mount the MAF sensor and filter to your stock air tube. It may not work on every vehicle, but it certainly will on a 1.6 or 1.8 liter Miata. I would send mine back except for the fact that my son dropped the painted K&N air tube on the cement and dented it. What a waste of money. I realize K&N has to certify the item to prove it doesn't affect the smog controls and that it meets C.A.R.B. specifications, but I think it's way overpriced. Save your money and skip this upgrade. ... show more
