I was looking for a way to heat my chick brooder without the fire danger of heat lamps. A friend told me about these heaters, and even though I was a bit skeptical, I purchased the large one. Since it is summer time, we kept our brooder outside for this batch of chicks. I still used a heat lamp for the first 7 days at night when temperature dipped, but now that I feel confident that this product works well, our next batch we'll try just the heating pad without supplemental heat!     • Pad is great, no holes for mounting (as advertised...)
Our pad raises our small coop temp from ambient ~55 degrees to ~70 degrees, curious to see how it works in colder weather, but my 5 week old chickens love it. What I don't love is that I was counting on the mounting holes to make my job easier (since it was advertised that way) and it did NOT come with pre-drilled holes. Now I have to figure out how to secure it in the coop before winter arrives in earnest. Edit after several months of use...still going strong and keeps the small coop surprisingly warm compared to outside temps. Even when we were down in single degree with wind chills the coop rarely dropped below freezing and typically stays in the mid to upper 30s with our chickens inside with it. Holes were easy enough to drill and I mounted this on the side of the coop so I don't need to clean it, they can just snuggle up next to it to get warm. ... show more

    • Worked well in a small coop
I have a 4' x 4' coop with a half dozen chickens. We had some severely cold weather come in during mid -January 2016 and two of the girls had partially molted. They were clearly unhappy and I needed to give them some relief. I installed this pad on the wall just above their roost. It doesn't provide radiant heat, but they both found it and the next morning when I went to check on them they were snuggled right up against the pad! It's not very large: just 18" wide, but for my purposes it was perfect. If you wanted to provide heat/comfort for more chickens you would need at least two pads. Durable construction with wire wrapped around the cord so I could run it up and out of the coop. No signs the chickens have tried to do anything with the cord. ... show more

    • Just Enough Warmth
Exactly what we needed to put some warmth in the chicken coop! Every evening we have to clear away the cedar shavings just so the heat can radiate up toward the roost for nighttime, but we have had no issues with the pad causing any fire since it is very little heat output... just enough to keep the water on the inside from freezing and it has been below 20 degrees already! The coop is insulated, so that helps too. UPDATE: It's been nearly 5 years now and we have purchased another heating pad for the coop. We have since mounted each one on the sides of the coop, one just above the door and in line with the roost and one on the other wall. This way there's no more clearing the shavings away or cleaning off droppings. Easy fix by mounting a piece of wood for the bottom to rest on and then a piece of wood at the to that turns to hold it in place. Both are working great still! ... show more

Its alright I guess. For as much money as these things cost I expect them to be WARM. both of the ones I bought are barely warm at all and the small dogs I bought them for are still shivering when using them outside. (they dont stay outside, but they need a heat source for when they are) I also bought a 3rd one from tractor supply for my chicken. That one puts off more heat then these two. Same mat differant brand!! ... show more

Perfect for my lady's, keeping the chilly edge off just enough to keep them happy. On a chilly breezy night at 20 degrees the coop reads 33 to 37 degrees. Granted my coop is small and well insulated. Its a great product so far. Little tip, if you don't want it running all the time buy a temperature sensitive outlet adapter cheap and works wonderfully together. ... show more

    • Not warm enough for chicks.
Doesn't get warm enough for chicks. Had to use a ceramic light with it. Bought this hoping it was enough without using ant kind d of bulb. It isn't. But, it works just fine for a kitten or puppy warmer.
