I shoot on a Sony A7 body and the internal NP-FZ100 packs just don't last through a long interview or a timelapse, so I picked this up to run the camera off a V-mount brick instead. It's a dummy battery shaped like the FZ100 with a D-Tap cable on the end, so it drops into the battery door and the tail routes out to whatever V-lock pack I've got on the rig. No cells inside it, so you do need to supply your own V-mount, which is worth knowing before you buy. The decoding is the important bit and it works. The camera reads it as a real battery, no pop-up warnings or nagging, and it just keeps powering through. I've left it recording for long stretches without the heat or shutdown worries you get pushing one little internal pack hard. Fit on my body is snug and the contacts have been reliable so far. My one quibble is the cable could be a touch longer for some cage setups, and the dummy battery door doesn't always close fully depending on your camera, though the little notch for the cable helps. For around $33 it's a fair price for something that genuinely solves the run time problem. If you already shoot off V-mount, this is an easy add.

I got this mainly to use with my Sony FX3 for longer video shoots where I do not want to keep swapping batteries. For my setup, this makes a lot of sense. The FX3 is already built more for video work, so running it from a V-mount battery through D-Tap feels like a practical upgrade. It is especially useful for interviews, tripod setups, studio shoots, longer content days, or anything where the camera is rigged out and staying powered for a while. The dummy battery fit worked as expected, and the cable keeps things pretty simple. It is not some exciting accessory, but it solves a real problem. Regular camera batteries are fine for quick shoots, but once you start recording longer clips, monitoring audio, or working through a full shoot, battery swaps get annoying fast. A couple things to know. This is not a battery by itself. You need a V-mount battery or another compatible D-Tap power source. It also makes the most sense on a rig, cage, tripod, or more controlled setup. I would not really use this for casual handheld shooting. I ordered this dummy battery for my Sony A7R V because I was tired of changing batteries during long video sessions and most importantly, losing a shot because I had no battery left. Most of my use has been indoors where the camera might stay powered on for hours at a time. It's been a life saver for time-lapse projects. Now I don't have to worry about the camera shutting down halfway through. Setup was straightforward. The dummy battery gets inserted into the battery compartment just like a regular battery, and it's connected to a V-Mount battery through the D-Tap cable. Once connected, the camera powered up normally and I didn't notice any difference in performance compared to using an actual battery. Best of all, the camera didn't complain about it - it took it as if it was the real thing. The cable feels durable and didn't give any problems. One thing to keep in mind is that this dummy battery is for a very specific use. It works best when you're using an external power solutions like a V-Mount battery or a dedicated video setup. This works great and feels like a solid piece of gear for powering a camera setup.
