The one I received appears to be genuine. There seems to be a genuine identification sticker for authenticity. I hope it's real. Assuming yes, the battery functioned properly in the camera as promised. The battery charge and the duration is just as long as promised. I think it is worth the money to pay for a genuine product. If you spend $2,000 or $3,000 on a camera body, would you really skimp $20 and buy an aftermarket battery? Battery is not immune to failure. Lithium can leak, can explode, or cause all kinds of issues. I am not certain a $20 saved is worth a multiple thousands of dollars of camera ruined. I recommend genuine Canon battery.
