  • Great value and versatile upgrade to the original VB99
Style: VB99 Pro
UPDATE - 2024.06.10 Bottom line - if you have a battery that won’t work with an Atomos device via the 12V barrel port, contact SmallRig. After I posted my review, Smallrig reached out to me and wanted to help. They were able to replace my original batteries with ones that worked with the Ninja V Plus from the 12V port. They also replaced my mini v mounts so that they properly locked the battery in. The latch doesn’t pop out fully like on some other v mount accessories but I can confirm that I wasn’t able to apply any amount of force to separate the batteries from the plate without damaging your rig. In both cases, I had purchased products from early manufacturing runs and it seems they sorted these issues out after a bit. These are still my favorite v mount battery packs as they are so versatile and really offer insane value because they don’t require a traditional battery plate or v mount charger. Original Review - Seemed like a big improvement over the original - Aluminum body, better placement of ports, color screen with more information, lower/no self discharge. Unfortunately there are two things that keep it from being great. The first is that when used with the SmallRig V-Mount Battery Plate (4064B, the small all in one that is practically perfect for Sony FX3/FX30), the battery isn't completely locked in - if the battery is pushed from the bottom or pulled from the top, the battery will come out of the plate (tested on two different units). Second, please see the included notice from their website. The Atomos Ninja monitors are probably one of the most common 12V devices out there, so it is disappointing to see that they aren't compatible w/ the 12V barrel port. My guess is that the power control module can't handle the inrush current on startup. Otherwise a fine product. ... show more

  • The best there is
Style: VB99 Pro
I run these on a Sony FX30 Rig that I built. I have two of these that last me a whole day shooting. When one goes down I put the other on the mount. This runs my Monitor and Camera at times. Super easy and long lasting battery life.

  • Drains faster than...updated review
Style: VB99 Pro
This battery from all the reviews is great for the ursa mini pro 12k. That just simply not true. It will power it on sure but it drains faster than generic batteries from the dollar store. If your doing serious shoots you will need alot of them and they are pricey for what you will need. My advice is buy something better. Update: Turns out I receaved a faulty battery. Smallrig reached out to me and sent me a new one renewing my faith in the brand and powering my camera properly now. I changed my review to a 5 star review. Thank you Smallrig! ... show more

  • 12V DC Port did not work and Power Button Issues
Style: VB99 Pro
The media could not be loaded. Updated review 1/3/2024: Smallrig acknowledged the voltage surge issue I reported with the 12v port. I even noticed the marketing pictures got updated with a warning message on voltage surge. Smallrig also sent me a replacement battery. The 12V port is working on this replacement battery. My Ninja V Plus is now being turned on using the 12V battery. The issue with the Power button remains the same. There is no way to turn off the battery. The power button has no purpose on this battery other than displaying the status. It should be called the 'status' button and not the 'Power' button. It is inconvenient to disconnect all the cables during the transportation. Another issue I noticed is that the battery is dying fast. I am still testing the battery life with R5C and I will update the review again. Overall, I am happy with the small rig support. I was getting the same-day replies from Smallrig. I want to give 3 stars due to the pending power button issue but I am giving 4 stars for now solely for the excellent smallrig support I received. Original Review: This is my first small rig battery and I had high expectations in this Pro battery but unfortunately, I believe I received a defective battery. Please watch the uploaded video. I have demonstrated two issues with the battery. 1. 12 V DC Port did not work. It is only outputting 1V to 1.3V and it will not power on my Ninja 5+ monitor. I made sure it was not the cable or my monitor issue as shown in the video. 2. The Power Off button does not work until all the cables are unplugged from the battery. I did not understand the purpose of the power on this battery. One, the battery auto turns on as soon as a cable is connected. Two, the battery won't turn off unless all the cables are disconnected. What is the purpose of the power button? The manual has no instructions on the power button. Design Pros: 1. Very Compact Design 2. Metal Housing is cool to the touch and may help with heat dissipation. 3. The Flippable pad that covers the ports is a good design. Design Cons: 1. The soft side Grip lines on the battery are designed vertically. The battery is quite heavy and these vertical grip lines make the battery slowly slip from your hand. This should have been horizontal or crisscross lines or just no lines at all. These "grip" lines are actually working as anti-grip lines. 2. All the ports are cramped on the tiny top. The USBC ports are placed so close to the slightly elevated edge wall on the top that you may find some thick USBC cables having a hard time being completely inserted. Finally, I returned the battery. Disappointed. ... show more

Whether it's DTAP or USB C connections your gear requires, this has what you need. It charges quickly via USB C (making the need for a slow V Mount charger a thing of the past). The LED panel gives you a whole lot of information, most importantly how much power you have left. From my iPhone to camcorders and more serious cameras, this battery has what it takes to charge all and keep rolling. ... show more
