  • A Blessing for Gardening In Hard Rocky Soil!
Size: 1.6 x 8.6 + 3 x 12 + 2 x 14.5 + 2.6 x 16....
I have horrible red rocky clay soil in my yard which is so difficult to dig in that I need a heavy digging pole to dig holes more than a couple inches deep or wide. It is hard work and very frustrating to plant anything. I ordered a couple of shepherds' hooks recently for my garden, and I decided to try to make my life easier by ordering these augurs and drilling holes into my awful soil rather than trying to dig holes for the shepherds' hook prongs. I don't know why I didn't order these sooner because they have made a huge difference in my ability to quickly and easily dig holes for the shepherds' hooks as well as bulbs and plants. After I got the shepherds' hooks installed, I quickly and easily planted 50 narcissus bulbs in under an hour, a chore that would easily have taken me half a day of slow and difficult digging the old way. I like that there are different sizes and lengths of these augurs which will accommodate different planting hole sizes. The augurs are very easy to insert into the drill, are very sturdy, and made quick work drilling holes into my awful soil. I am sure I will be using them for a wide variety of chores such as aerating my compost piles, planting/transplanting. I only wish I had bought these years ago - they would have saved me many hours of drudgery and frustration! ... show more

  • Excellent, well-made auger bits - it really works!
Size: 1.6 x 16 + 3.5 x 16 Inch
These are very well made and sturdy. I used the smaller of the two sizes with a 20v DeWalt cordless drill, which is a very powerful drill. I used the bit to plant in tough North Texas soil, which is less like soil and more like rock-filled clay - the most difficult substance one can imagine to plant in, aside from concrete. This auger made the job easier, I was able to break up this impossible soil and remove the excess dirt with a shovel. It’s a nearly impossible job otherwise. I made three large holes to plant shrubs that came in 2 gallon buckets, so the holes were about 18” in diameter and maybe 14” deep, leaving plenty of room to add good soil around the new plants. One thing to note, when you hit rocks or roots or just tough sticky clay, the drill will kick back with considerable force, and I’ve got a sore shoulder and wrists from that. After a while you learn to be less aggressive with the drilling and take smaller bites to avoid injury. If your drill has a two-speed gearbox, use the lower, higher torque setting, especially in tough soils, but please use caution! In all, this is a great tool that makes the difficult job of digging in tough earth much easier. ... show more

  • Pretty good.
Size: 1.6 x 16 Inch
Good quality. Went easily onto my older battery operated Makita drill. Drilled about 30 5 to 6 inch deep holes for vegetable planting. Did pretty good with the hard soil struggling after about 6inches. Except for that and the paint coming off the very tip of the bit it worked fairly well.

  • Works well, holds up to multiple uses
Size: 1.6 x 16 + 3.5 x 16 Inch
I have to admit to having been skeptical about this product. The ground about 2 inches beneath the surface of our property is firm, damp, clay. Even tillers have problems cutting into this soil. These augers, however, despite being affordable, were able to dig down 4 inches with ease, and a bit further with some help from a digging bar. This left us with some perfect spots to mix in gardening soil and our tomato plants. The smaller auger appears made for planting decorative flowers, and the larger is appropriately sized for larger garden plants like cucumbers, etc. They cut into the ground very well and appear sturdy enough to use for several more seasons. These cut down the time and work involved with putting in my wife's garden considerably and I'd recommend them to anyone who likes to have a garden but hates the effort it takes to make their imperfect soil accept the plants. ... show more

  • Effective & Efficient
Size: 1.6 x 9 + 3 x 9 Inch
Perfect for saving time and effort digging! We’ve dug holes for bulbs, our veggie garden, and even used to soften up and dig holes large enough for big roses. Saves hubs and I while we recover from tendinitis in our elbows on our homestead. Big fan! Even our friends are borrowing them!

  • Didn’t really work in the soil I tried to use it in
Size: 1.6 x 8.6 + 3 x 12 + 2 x 14.5 + 2.6 x 16....
It came fast and was just like the description. My problem with it was that it just didn’t work for me. Perhaps it was the soil I was trying this product on, I don’t know. It wasn’t very functional and I could just use my soils knife to make a hole faster than with this product. I mean, I kind of wish I hadn’t bought it, but I’m too lazy to return it. I don’t know if all drill attachment augers perform this way or it’s just this product. Either way, I didn’t like this and I wish I hadn’t bought it because I don’t see a situation where I’ll try to use it again. ... show more

  • Best purchase for my garden
Size: 4 x 12 Inch
This item is a game changer. I can only work in the yard for so long due to health issues, and this has allowed me to plant all the plants I over-bought. It breaks up the soil, it is amazing. We have solid clay in Georgia, and even if you dig a hole with a trowel, it leaves the side dirt hard, with this, just side wiggle it and you have beautifully tilled soil for your plant. I am so happy I saw a video talking about this product. It has returned to me, my diverse garden planting obsession. Love it. Even used it to drill into the clay to put the downspout drain hose....just the best purchase I've made in years for the garden. Highly recommend. I will issue one caution, if you are planting in an area with large roots, be careful. It will jerk your arm/shoulder if you get carried away, so use a bit of caution in rooted areas. Otherwise, it cuts down planting time by about 2/3s for me. ... show more
