Easy to thread and use. Makes hemming knits much easier. There is a learning curve, but there are plenty of online tutorials.

Bought used-mint condition and it’s amazing. Everything I could have hoped for! Way easier to thread than a serger. Works beautifully and smooth. Watched a couple videos online on how to properly thread it and which tension settings to use depending on the fabric being sewn and have had no issues.

    • This is a GREAT machine
A cover stitch machine is not required for sewing hems on knits but wow, what a difference! Hems on knits need some stretch or you will inevitably get popped stitches. You can set up a domestic machine to sew a stretchy stitch (e.g. zigzag) but it doesn't give a professional appearance and I've spent hours with twin needles, etc., trying to get the look I wanted. Enter a cover stitch machine. I'm not generally a fan of single purpose machines but in this case, it is well worth it. I chose the Juki MCS-1700QVP model for several reasons. First, I'm a fan of Juki machines (this is my third Juki). Second I wanted ease of use. Threading the looper is the hardest part and it's easy to do. The rest of the set up is a breeze. Third, I didn't want to spend a fortune. The price point for the MCS-1700QVP was in the range I wanted. I'm very glad I took the leap. I love apparel sewing and this will make sewing knits a lot easier. I'm a fan! ... show more
