Description

Totem is an award-winning design that combines all your waste and recycling in one compact unit. Updated in 2019, the 2nd generation totem features two compartments arranged vertically, which saves space and makes them very easy to fill and empty. Each compartment has a removable bucket that can be fitted with a single standard liner for General waste or two smaller bags, using the integrated bag hooks, for separating different types of recycling. Breather vents in the bucket sides make removing a full liner easier. Totem also features a ventilated odor filter in the main lid that helps reduce moisture and odor build up from waste. The design comes with a 3 liter (0. 8 us gallon) removable compost bin that can be stored in either compartment, or on the countertop. Stylish, practical and durable, totem is available in two sizes – totem max (60 liters/16 US gallons) and totem compact (40 liters/10. 6 us gallons). stainless-steel versions feature a fingerprint-proof coating, whilst other models feature an easy-clean powder-coated steel finish. custom-fit liners for the main compartments and liners for the compost bin are available separately, as are replaceable odor Filters. Choose the right custom-fit liner: totem max (60L): Iw2 waste liners and Iw6 trash liner; totem compact (40L) – Iw2 waste liners and Iw7 trash liner.

I was on the fence about spending this much money on a trash can. I needed something unique because I was leaving it out in the open. So looks played a part in my decision, but also function. I was intrigued by the over under design, in addition to the compost bin. I received the trash can, it was larger than I expected red, which was a good thing. When you lightly pressed the opening handle, the lid opens gently. You can just as easily press the lid closed. Inside the first unit is the compost bin. The bin itself is very well designed, and it’s easy to use the custom bags (my only negative regarding the bags is the fact they are pretty pricey). The compost bin, while functional and well designed in regards to how it sits in the trash bin, the lid is loose, and I suspect will let smells out. I would expect the lid to close tightly, perhaps there is a legit reason for it to be loose, but I don’t know what it would be. Moving down to the recycling bin, it’s a good sized bin and it has wheels do it slides right out with ease and back into place. All in all, this bin was worth the money, the bags are worth the money for me as I don’t produce a lot of trash. For a single person household, I think it will do well and it looks great to boot. If I have opinions or experiences over the next few months, I will update this review. ... show more

This trash can is perfect and exactly what I wanted. I'd first like to comment on the many reviewers who complain about the size saying it isn't big enough for their family. This is NOT a family trash can per se. I would contend it would accommodate a family of three or four AT MOST depending on how much trash it accumulates. I live by myself. I have had the trash can over a week and I have not emptied the top part yet (landfill trash) and have only emptied the bottom part (recyclables) once since it arrived a week ago. I will need to empty the top part soon BUT that's because I just moved into my current location and am accumulating more trash than usual because I am ordering stuff I need. I imagine when I am settled in I will likely have to empty both every couple weeks at most and that's being generous. The compost bin is tiny. If you are cooking for a family every day and generating food waste, this will fill up quickly--I'd guess it would need to be emptied twice a week. For smaller families, couples, and single people, once a week at most for sure. The only reason I will empty mine once a week is because my city offers free compost collection every Saturday, but I am sure I could wait and go every two weeks if I wanted. The trash can works as described. The internal bins slide out easily to empty them. The bottom part pulls effortlessly on its wheels and it slides right back in. My only knock on the product would be the lid to the compost holder--I wish it snapped on or felt like it was in place better. Every once in awhile it gets knocked ajar when putting trash into the larger bin and since it might have wet foods in it, I sometimes wonder about it getting knocked over accidentally when I have it out to use. By the way, being able to remove the compost bin is definitely a big plus to me. I am glad I can put it right next to me on the counter when I am cutting/peeling fruits or vegetables. The top lid is responsive (at least for now) and pops right up. This is expensive for a trash can and the price will likely turn many people away. If this is in your budget, though, it's worth the money. I suspect this will work for many years to come. If you do have a larger family and are looking at this product, it would work but you will obviously need to empty it a little more frequently. ... show more

This is the perfect dual trash/recycling can for tight spaces. We remodeled our small kitchen a few months ago. We had always struggled with where to place a trash can AND a recycling can. We previously had space for both, but the remodel eliminated space for one of them. Nearly every option for a dual can available online was too wide for the space we now have. Leave it to the folks in Europe to think more creatively and stack a trash can atop a rollout recycling bin, maximizing vertical space over floor space. Overall we are very happy with this product. It has minimized our trash/recycle footprint, which is great for small apartment living. I would give this 5 out of 5 but there is an issue we ran into is after about 5 months of normal use the plastic of the bottom bin (we use for recycle) started to rip. It is ripping along a spot that has cutouts to hook the bags on it, but that just made it weaker. It could have been how I carried the bin or just a weak point in the structural integrity of the plastic. In our area we have to sort beverage bottles and cans to get a deposit back and then also separately recycle glass and metal. We use the top bin for the beverage containers and the bottom for the regular recyclables. Before we had paper bags lined up and it looked terrible. It's great to go vertical and tidy up the space. We also already had the Titan garbage can. This bin is taller than the Titan but still looks good next to it. I wish this bin had a stainless lid instead of black plastic but it still looks nice. Definitely pricey but I'd buy again anyway. ... show more

I had a little difficulty justifying 200.00 for a garbage can. Hands down this is the coolest design for a garbage can ever. Money well spent .. right up there with my Roomba Gladys. In the box, what you see is what you get. There are some trash bags included that are specific to it, for you to try. It will use 'regular' garbage can liners ( I checked using 13 gal for each of the 8 gal bins) and is just under standard (US) counter top height. I don't have access to water outside for cleaning, so for me I am happy that it looks like it will be much easier to clean. The bins are much shorter than trying to put a standard 13 gal garbage can under the bathtub faucet. Depending on your sink you might even be able to pull it off in the kitchen. Geoffrey has found his forever home. May he and Gladys live happily ever after :) ... show more
